In a shocking turn of events in the Fantasy League Davie wins the Wales Open. His picks of Joost Luiten, Jamie Donaldson, Edoardo Molinari, and Anthony Wall meant that he lapped the field after the finish points were calculated. In the race for the podium 1GrumpyGolfer, BlueCoverman, and RedRage tied for second. Mary_S was in close proximity. SetupDetermines pipped LadyPutt in the race to sixth place.
Soren Kjeldsen shot the round of the day with a 64. Maximilian Kieffer finished poorly with an 80 and took last place.
Next week the Ryder Cup starts in earnest and out of the Ryder Cuppers on show only Jamie Donaldson covered himself in glory. Paul McGinley will have a lot of thinking to do.

The Davie show rolls on as good scoring was to be had in round 3. 66 or lower was needed to get amongst the Top 10 Low Round scores and only four picks made it there; Davie had two of them. 1GrumpyGolfer also had two of them and only BlueCoverman and Mary_S had a pick shoot 66 or better. Those three are all tied for third behind RedRage. Nothing happened for LadyPutt or SetupDetermines.
Eddie Pepperall shot 63 for the low round and Jamie McLeary shot 77 for the worst round. With second place to play for it's very tight amongst the also rans.

Davie seems to have taken a firm grip on this week's event; he has the full set through to the weekend and for the second day running has a pick that had the low round of the day. Edoardo Molinari shot 63 to move into contention and earn bonus points for two other Fantasy Leaguers. Both RedRage and Mary_S had picked the younger Molinari and with RedRage keeping eight picks he has a good grip on second place. BlueCoverman is tied with Mary after points for his eight picks matched her seven picks and low round bonuses. 1GrumpyGolfer also has seven picks, SetupDetermines has six picks left. LadyPutt's lucky numbers weren't so great this time around; she is left with four picks for the weekend.
The cut line fell at +1 and that was a few too many shots away for Lee Rooke, his round of 87 was the worst of the day by some margin.

Mixed bag of scoring in Wales as less than 1/3 of the field are under par. Only three picks made it into the top 10 after round one and only two score points. Sam Walker scores for RedRage after his round of 67 which was the number needed to make the top 5 Low Round scores. Davie's Joost Luiten went better than that and his round of 66 was the lowest of the day. Everyone else is yet to get off of the mark. Jose Maria Olazabal finished with an 82 for the worst round of the day.

The final event before the Ryder Cup sees some of the European team make their way to Wales for a last minute warm up. It is only fitting that Welshman Jamie Donaldson is the headline act for the Wales Open. He is joined by fellow team mates Thomas Bjorn, Stephen Gallacher, and Lee Westwood. These Ryder Cuppers make up the top ranked players in the OWGR and three others within the top 50 are also playing. This is the fifteenth edition of the Wales Open and Gregory Bourdy is the defending champion. He is joined by four other former champions with Thongchai Jaidee being the most recent; Robert Karlsson, Simon Khan, and Paul Lawrie make up the rest.
We are back to our regular three Categories but you still need to pick three, plus reserve, from each one. The additional cut bonus points are still on offer this time around. If you get all of your picks through in any category you get a small bonus. Get all 9 picks through and you get an even bigger bonus. It's all way down at the bottom in the scoring section if you are interested.
This is a full field with cut event, so cut points will be available; see above.

RULES
Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 9 players as follows:
Pick 3 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.
Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be eligble for points for all completed rounds and making the cut if they withdraw after the cut. It must be apparent that the player completed their round for them to be eligible for either the low round, worse round, top 5, or top 10 low round scores. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply. Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.
Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.
Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.
All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Re: GolfChatUK Fantasy League 2013–2014 - Summer/Autumn Session - Event #8 Wales Open
Please note new rules regarding player withdrawals:
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be eligble for points for all completed rounds and making the cut if they withdraw after the cut. It must be apparent that the player completed their round for them to be eligible for either the low round, worse round, top 5, or top 10 low round scores. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Hopefully this will eliminate confusion going forward.

Surely if these are NEW rules, this would negate Blue's score from last week ?

Certainly not, obviously you will have to start your own 'independent' fantasy league

Actually the OLD rules said if a player withdraws he is treated as nil scoring. The good lady judge went against the rules to allow you points. But as the good lady judge'a decision is final all points remain.
The event was posted late because they only had 146 players listed as entered and a typical field size is 156. I was expecting qualifiers to fill out the field and waiting for the tee times to confirm. These were not available mid afternoon yesterday otherwise I would have realised they were playing silly buggers and posted the event as all players were listed. So

Looks like Simon Dyson withdrew before starting, no scores for any holes listed on the ET website, and he's been removed from the 13:00 tee time with Marc Warren and Joost Luiten. Blue now has Richie Ramsay and I have Oliver Fisher in our Cat B selections.
Mary_S and Setup have been hampered by the disqualification of Chris Doak.
I need a ruling from the judge for Red's picks. His number's are 2, 8, 11, no reserve number.
Dyson is number 2 on the list and withdrew before play started. Are his picks Dyson, R Fisher and T Hatton. Or are they E Molinari, R Karlsson, and P Uihlein
I'm happy to score using either set of picks until the good lady judge gets round to ruling on this matter.

LP will decide - but I'd say remove Dyson from the list then give him his numbers from there
Re: GolfChatUK Fantasy League 2013–2014 - Summer/Autumn Session - Event #8 Wales Open
Yep, that's my sense too. It would be very harsh to penalise him for basically not picking a reserve. Might have to wait a while as LP is on holiday...

Eek, I didn't really make a suggestion but my thoughts are that he doesn't get screwed by the withdrawal of Dyson and he started with three Cat B picks.

Hennie Otto has also withdrawn before his second round got underway. LadyPutt's chances are diminishing and maybe she'll let someone else have a go at winning an event but I get the feeling it won't be me

Just found out about Doak's DQ. Apparently he put two in the water on the 18th, his final hole, and said bugger it, I'm off home to be with the missus. She had been overdue to give birth and was due to be induced yesterday.

Are you sure it wasn't the extra glass of champagne you had at breakfast LP?
I watched a bit of the final round of the Ladies European Tour event yesterday held at Costa Adeje. Did you go and see any of it last week?

Blue - this old dog was amazed by the size of the winning margin

All joking aside well played, a very convincing win indeed! Nearly worthy of a handicap cut

Funny how you're advocating a handicap cut now Blue, you didn't seem so keen last year

I merely thought that because of the huge margin of Davie's victory it might be appropriate!
If it had been a stableford event and those in second place scored 25 points and the winner had scored 60 points don't you think a few eyebrows would have been raised?
Perhaps Davie is bit of a bandit?

Must surely be someone else you're talking about Blue
Re: GolfChatUK Fantasy League 2013–2014 - Summer/Autumn Session - Event #8 Wales Open
In that instance it would appear they only played 9 holes while the winner played the full 18

If you can manage 25 points in 9 holes then you must be a bandit as well!

I had half that score last week on the back 9 at Abridge with seven 1 pointers! No blobs though!
