Paul Casey gave Paul McGinley food for thought and he must be wondering whether he has made the right decisions for his captain's picks. Mary_S was the only one to pick Casey but she didn't have enough backing him up and only Edoardo Molinari finished in the points from the rest of her picks. BlueCoverman stumbled towards the line but with five picks scoring points it was again a case of not enough quality. 1GrumpyGolfer had five picks score points including three in the top five and that was enough to sneak him to the top of the leaderboard. LadyPutt had four picks score points and she settles in mid table. Davie had three picks score points, SetupDetermines had two picks score points, and RedRage had a solitary pick score points.
Johan Carlsson shot 63 to propel himself into a top five finish. Marco Crespi shot 77 for the worst round of the day. Jamie Mcleary finished last.

Could Mary_S be making a charge? The day after Pablo Larrazabal set a course record Paul Casey matches it. His round of 62 was the lowest on the day and started Mary off on a bumper points haul. She had two other picks shoot 66 or lower on a day of good scoring. 1GrumpyGolfer was able to match the number of picks scoring points and, along with Mary, is leading the chasing pack. LadyPutt and Davie slip back after they could only manage to get one pick scoring points. BlueCoverman had two picks score points and maintains his lead at the top, RedRage moves off of the bottom of the leaderboard after he also had two picks scoring points. SetupDetermines did not trouble the scorers at this time.
At the other end of the leaderboard Estanislao Goya had a 76 along with Daan Huizing.

The sad BlueCoverman missed out on the full set by the withdrawal, oh, okay shocking first round, of Adrien Saddier. LadyPutt missed out through David Drysdale. Everyone else, except SetupDetermines, have seven picks left. Category C did for all of us and SetupDetermines also lost one of his Category A picks through Jonas Blixt's bad round 2.
Pablo Larrazabal set a course record with a 62. Amateur Lars Keunen had the worst round of the day with a 79. The cut line fell at even par.

BlueCoverman has moved into the lead based upon a contentious decision to award him points for a poor round by Adrien Saddier. Saddier seems to have shot an 82 when maybe himself would have been better but he withdrew instead. BlueCoverman also had Joost Luiten, who had the low round of the day, and Edoardo Molinari, who along with Peter Uihlein, shot 66. The Luiten, Molinari combination was quite popular and Davie, LadyPutt, and SetupDetermines are hot on BlueCoverman's heels. 1GrumpyGolfer picked Luiten and Mary_S and RedRage picked one of Molinari or Uihlein.
Saddier's round appears to stand and it was the worst of the day.

The European Tour is now in The Netherlands for the KLM Open. The field is headlined by Thomas Bjorn with former winner Miguel Angel Jimenez as the only other representative from the top 50. The defending champion is Joost Luiten who became the first Dutchman to win since Martin Lafeber back in 2003. Lafeber is also in the field along with a number of other past champions who include Peter Hanson, Simon Dyson, Darren Clarke, Gonzalo FDez-Castano, David Lynn, Sven Struver, and Jose Maria Olazabal. Martin Kaymer is the only recent winner not in attendance.
We are back to our regular three Categories but you still need to pick three, plus reserve, from each one. The additional cut bonus points are still on offer this time around. If you get all of your picks through in any category you get a small bonus. Get all 9 picks through and you get an even bigger bonus. It's all way down at the bottom in the scoring section if you are interested.
This is a full field with cut event, so cut points will be available; see above.

Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 9 players as follows:
Pick 3 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.
Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply. Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.
Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.
Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.
All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Don't think I can do it again, but here goes:
Cat A: Joost Luiten, Shane Lowry & Tommy Fleetwood (res Paul Casey)
Cat B: Eduardo Molinari, Tyrrell Hatton & Richie Ramsay (res Andy Sullivan)
Cat C: David Drysdale, Mark Foster & John Hahn (res Richard Bland)
I will be on holiday sunning myself and playing some golf in Tenerife for the next 2 weeks (including the Ryder Cup ) so please can you pick me numbers 1, 4 and 7 in each group with 10 as reserve if I don't manage to get my tablet connected to the hotel's wifi? It may be that I have to pass on the RC competition but the wifi works!
Thanks Grumps

And what was wrong with my Cat C picks LP?
Where are you playing in Tenerife? I was there in June and played at Golf Las Americas, Golf Adeje and Golf De Sur. All good resort courses, probably Americas was my favourite. Have a good holiday

I've only just looked at your picks, Blue. Oh well, great minds and all that .....
We're playing those three plus Amarilla which is where I had my third Hole in One in March last year! We've played Golf de Sur before several times but not the other two - what are they like?

Played each course twice LP and enjoyed them both. Very similar in length, Americas is 5865 metres off the yellows and 5026 off the reds, Adeje is 5864 and 5076. Good resort courses in the sense that neither has a great deal of punishing rough or huge amounts of water but they both set a reasonable challenge and test of your golfing ability and as you would expect both offer some very picturesque views. I found Americas slightly easier and had a 74 my best round of the week, on Adeje I had my worst round of 86!
Both clubhouses have good facilities, we tended to play in the afternoons and both served up very nice lunches before starting our rounds. The balcony area overlooking the 18th green and lake on Americas is a particularly pleasant spot to unwind with a drink after your round. All of our party enjoyed the trip and it looks like we will be returning to the same venue next year.

Thanks Blue. We're playing Amarilla (probably the easiest but quite a pretty course) on 18th to ease ourselves in, then Adeje on 22nd, Golf del Sur on 24th and Americas on 26th. I've managed to get some good deals with lunch and buggy included (and transfers for Adeje and Americas which are some way away from the hotel at San Blas) and we're doing the 27-hole "marathon" at GdS. It will be interesting to see how we get on because we've only been playing a 9-hole course recently - but then we won't be walking! I'll report back.

LP, I'll get your numbers in for next week if you don't make picks.
To give you some thinking time for the Ryder Cup all you need to do is pick the player you think will be the hero for each side (earns the most points for their side) and the player that will be the villain for each side (earns the fewest points for their side). You will also need to declare who will win, a tie is valid, and what the score will be.
Here's an example:
Hero: Donaldson, Walker
Villain: Kaymer, Watson
Result: Europe 15-13
Enjoy your trip

Play was suspended after Fabrizio Zanotti was struck on the head by a golf ball. Zanotti was on the 16th fairway when he was hit by a tee shot from the 14th tee. He received treatment on the course and was then taken to hospital.

Yet another example of players not shouting Fore and just holding an arm out? I'm sure Zanotti wasn't looking for errant tee shots while he was minding his own business playing his own game.

I have to say that's terrible bad luck Blue. Your pick of Saddier shot an 82 when he should probably have shot himself. He's now withdrawn so that means, unfortunately, no bonus points for you.

Maybe?, Maybe Not.
You could always petition the good Lady Judge, what was it you said recently? Oh yeah, girls are rubbish. Let us know how you get on
Edit: you may not need to bother the good lady judge. Looking at the leaderboard he's been reinstated at the very bottom The bonus points might be yours. That may all change tomorrow as round 1 was suspended for darkness. Leaderboard update or come then.

Been working from home the last few days and my laptops at work. Had to recreate my scoring file this morning so I might be a bit late in posting the round 1 update.

Hope you're enjoying your holiday Setup.
It's quite possible that we have had this happen before with points awarded and no points awarded. I think we need to write this situation into the rules and if the good lady judge agrees points should be awarded then it should read something like this:
If a pick withdraws their round must be completed to be eligible for low or worst round score. Must be able to verify their score.

Well obviously the round must be completed. Would hardly be fair if a player withdrew after 9 holes after shooting 59 and then picked up points for low round of the day!

Thanks LP I'm glad you're feeling generous and in a good mood and I wish you a lovely holiday.
As for me I'm not in that much of a good mood, feeling a bit gloomy to be honest. My 18 year old son and best mate starts at Bournemouth university this term studying for an economics degree. He moved to the south coast today and we have just got back to Essex after driving him and a Range Rover full of his gear to the house that he is sharing with four other first year students as they prepare for the mayhem that is freshers week. He will have a great time of course and he is looking forward to it but I've been dreading him leaving. We will all miss his cheerful face and happy laughter around the house. Even his 16 year old sister cried when she came home from sixth form college to an empty house tonight!
So I'm sure others on here have been through the same thing. Did you feel the same or were you pleased to see them go?!

Well obviously the round must be completed. Would hardly be fair if a player withdrew after 9 holes after shooting 59 and then picked up points for low round of the day!
How about it must be apparent that they finished their round, smart arse ?

Your son will back before you know it, Blue. Better make sure that the beer fridge is fully stocked!
From my experience of Steve disappearing to various countries for several months at a time, I'd say that waving them off does become more routine each time.
Nice round of 62 from Paul Casey yesterday!

Re: GolfChatUK Fantasy League 2013–2014 - Summer/Autumn Session - Event #7 KLM Open
Well, we survived and enjoyed both courses but preferred Las Americas, apart from the three idiots behind us who hit our buggy twice with tee shots (only called Fore once), and twice had balls land right behind us - and we were waiting for the group in front so they had nowhere to go. Something to do with the fact there were two women playing, I suppose. Anyway, we had the Marshall speak to them twice and then LordPutt went and gave them a piece of his mind and they did eventually back off! The starter was very sweet - we had lunch booked but no time to eat it so he ordered club sandwiches and chips and brought them out to us on the 9th. I managed to par the last 3 holes and just missed a putt for a birdie on the 18th!BlueCoverman wrote:Played each course twice LP and enjoyed them both.
The trouble with playing Adeje (and Golf del Sur) was that they had the LET playing the Ladies Tenerife Open which finished on the Sunday and we played on the Monday. The course had been allowed to dry up quite a bit and was a bit tricky, especially on the greens. At Golf del Sur, we had booked their "marathon" - all 27 holes - but when we arrived there were ladies playing the Spanish Open! This meant all the greenfee payers were squashed onto two of the 9s and then there was no room to sit down for our lunch because of the women and their caddies and hangers-on. We then had a row with the pro shop because they said we couldn't play the remaining 9 (the Links course) because it was being prepared for the ladies next day. I stood my ground and we were eventually allowed to play - it was great, we had the course to ourselves (playing with another couple who, co-incidentally live about two miles from us!) apart from a few greenstaff. I couldn't understand why they were cutting greens in the afternoon for next morning's play - surely they would have to cut them again? At least the course was in better condition than it was when we played in March last year and again I managed to par the last 3.
The only disappointment was Amarilla Golf which was in dreadful shape - even the bins were overflowing! We won't be playing there again in a hurry.
