A thrilling final day saw the lead be shared at one point by two GolfChatUK Fantasy League picks in the closing stages of the Turkish Open. In the end it wasn't to be for Jamie Donaldson and Justin Rose as the 18th saw their fortunes finish in differing fashions; a two putt birdie for Donaldson and a three putt bogey for Rose after a poor drive. Donaldson's birdie meant he posted round of the day which also included shot of the day at the par 3 16th, a cheeky little 1; wonder if he matched BlueCoverman? Donaldson earned points for LadyPutt and RedRage.
The chopping and changing on the leaderboard also had the GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers jockeying for position and everyone scored finish points. BlueCoverman had two picks score points, 1GrumpyGolfer, LadyPutt, and SetupDetermines all had three picks score points and they finished in the mid and lower table range. RedRage also had three picks score points including a 2nd and 3rd and he scored the most points through finish placings and that rocketed him up the table. Davie and Mary_S had five picks score points and it led to a very close finish; in the end the bang that Mary_S returned with echoed significantly and she took victory from RedRage with Davie in third place.
In a surprising finish Turkish chopper Ali Altuntas only bogied his last hole allowing Simon Khan to take the worse round dishonours by one shot with a 76. Altuntas had pretty much wrapped up last place before the final round and was the only to be double digits over par.
The European Tour Series Finals end next week in Dubai with the DP World Tour Championship and so does the GolfChatUK Fantasy League for 2012-2013.

The fine golf continued and the course record was equalled and also broken in round 3. Victor Dubuisson shot 63 to take a 5 shot lead into the final round but finishing before him was Raphael Jacquelin who shot 62 including a double bogey on one of the par 3s. Rounds of 66 or better got you into the Top 10 Low Round Scores and three picks were among them earning points for Mary_S, LadyPutt, and Davie who had two of the three. 1GrumpyGolfer earned another 10 points through a last hole collapse by Ali Altuntas who had a double bogey on his final hole to sink to a 79 and sole possesion of the worse score.

The great scoring continued with almost two thirds of the field under par in round 2. There were almost 30 rounds in the 60s and a number of them came from GolfChatUK picks. Best of the bunch today was from Tiger Woods who still can't match BlueCoverman on the 18th. His round of 63 included just a birdie on the last to cement low round of the day. That low round earned points for BlueCoverman, RedRage, and it allowed SetupDetermines to get off the mark. BlueCoverman is now tied for the lead with Mary_S and 1GrumpyGolfer.

The weather delayed the first round completion of the Turkish Open but a few hours rest meant that a few players were able to return fresh and blitz their way up the leaderboard. GolfChatUK picks Thomas Bjorn and Henrik Stenson were among the three players that shot 64 in round 1. That earned bonus points for BlueCoverman and Mary_S respectively. Darren Fichardt also shot 64 but no one picked him. Rounds of 66 or better got you into the Top 5 Low Round Scores and two other picks were among them earning points for everyone bar SetupDetermines. Mary_S also had another Top 5 Low Round Score to add to her points total. 1GrumpyGolfer also had two picks in the Top 5 Low Round Scores and he is tied with Mary_S courtesy of worse round bonus points. They were achieved in dramatic fashion as Ali Altuntas dropped 4 shots over his last two holes to record an 80.

The penultimate event in the European Tour Final series and the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Summer/Autumn session sees the European Tour leave Shanghai and head to Turkey. 30 of those in Shanghai for the WGC are playing in Turkey on a relatively new course designed by Colin Montgomerie. Half of Category B and most of the Category C players did not play in the WGC so this is their final chance to make the Top 60 in the Race to Dubai standings and play in the DP World Tour Championship season finale.
Tiger Woods makes an appearance in Turkey along with course designer Colin Mongomerie; luckily for those with Sky Sports Monty is playing and not in the commentary box.
This is a limited field event with no cut; cut bonuses will not be in effect.

RULES
Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:
Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.
Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply. Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.
Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.
Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.
All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Another point of yours that I can throw back to you based on your premise of having to pick the best players that would mean we would be all picking the same and all ending up at the top of the leaderboard. You thought that would be boring; I'mza just Sayin

Welcome back Setup, hope you had a great trip. 4 picks in scoring positions so I don't think you'll be at the bottom for long.
I think you're trying to lull us into a false sense of security Mary, just waiting for next season to pounce.

Good job I had insider knowledge of the course, I might have come last otherwise!

Sorry but I don't see he's done anything wrong! Just wish I'd thought of it1GrumpyGolfer wrote:BlueCoverman wrote:For the attention of the League Judge
A question if I may LadyPutt...can I ask for your feelings on this weeks shenanigans? Specifically we have had a player deliberately choose the weakest players in the field (and those that are obviously completely out of their depth at this level) as their category C picks.
This tactic to pick up cheap points for worse round and last place is not only devious and underhand in my opinion, but goes against all the high standards and principles of fair play and honesty that up until now have been enjoyed by all of us who participate in this league.
Without wishing to influence your considerations of course, can I propose that the guilty party be disqualified from this weeks contest and take no further part other than to remain at the bottom of the leaderboard on nil points for the duration of the event.
I await your decision with much interest.
Sincerely yours,
BC
Dear BlueCoverman,
I note your comments with interest especially in the light of your earlier remarks. If I may I would like to direct your attention to the rules section of the Fantasy League paying specific attention to the section on picking players:Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:
Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
I am unable to see where it says you must pick the best players within each category and I would be interested, nay grateful, to see where it explicitly states this. Surely the picks are at the discretion of the player as to who he or she thinks will score the most points for them.
I do believe, my good fellow, that there is a smattering of sour grapes coming across in your post as you yourself commented:BlueCoverman wrote:You're right it's genius, can't believe I didn't think of it myself when there are no cut bonuses to be had!
In light of recent ungentlemenly comments regarding the good Lady Judge's performance in prior events and admitting, no, bragging, about insider knowledge of the course for this event you may wish to keep a lower profile in case the spotlight is directed back at you.
Yours sincerely,
Grumps

So all down to the wire.
Still no wins.
You will all have to make choices that are to play so badly, so that I can gain my first victory of the session.
