Only five GolfChatUK Fantasy League picks made the scoring positions at the Greenbrier and only three Fantasy Leaguers had chosen any of those five.  The uninterested LadyPutt proving to be the best picker of a bad bunch with three picks catapulting her to victory over SetupDetermines, one pick, and Mary_S, two picks.  Mary_S's sudden burst was enough to push her from the basement into a podium position.

Jim Herman had the round of the day with a 65 and Justin Leonard slumped to an 82.  Leonard's round spectacularly fell apart on 16 when he carded a 10 after playing seven from the tee; three tee shots found the water and he eventually found dry land at the fourth attempt.  That was enough to give Leonard last place dishonours.  In another unsurprising event no one picked any of these players so no bonus points were awarded, again.

The final event of the Spring/Summer session is the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open and it looks like it will take something spectacular to unseat the current leader.

10 players fell victim to the MDF cut after round 3; Dicky Pride was one of those players and that means Mary_S is down to three picks.

Three players shared rounds of 64; Gary Woodland, Johnson Wagner, and Jimmy Walker.  Erik Compton had a 79 on his way to an MDF.  The Top 10 Low Round scores were 66 or lower.  Only 1GrumpyGolfer was able to take advantage and his 10 points was enough to take him into the joint lead.

Only 6 of the remaining 19 picks are within scoring positions so it could be very close on Sunday.

81 players made the cut at the Greenbrier at -1.  However, no one managed to get all six picks through.  BlueCoverman, LadyPutt, and SetupDetemines came the closest with five picks; they were undone by Phil, never makes the cut here, Mickelson, John, hardly finishes a tournament, Daly, and Scott, don't know much about him, Gardiner respectively.  Davie and Mary_S both had four picks through and 1GrumpyGolfer and RedRage both had three picks.

Matt Every matched round 1's low score with a 62 which was the best of the day by three shots.  Steve LeBrun had the worse round with 79.  No one picked either of these so no bonus points were awarded for round 2.

With 81 players through there will be a further cut after round 3.

Low scoring ensued in the first round of the Greenbrier Classic and the popular pick of Webb Simpson proved fruitful for a number of GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers.  1GrumpyGolfer, BlueCoverman, RedRage, and SetupDetermines all picked Simpson and they got to enjoy the bonus points on offer for being one of the Top 5 Low Scores.

Tommy Gainey and Johnson Wagner share the lead at -8 and Darren Stiles, Scott Verplank, Aaron Baddeley, and Kyle Stanley hold every up at +7.  No one picked any of these players so no Low/Worse round bonus points were awarded.

Expect the cut to be around -2 or -3 so some picks need to get a move on today.

The PGA Tour moves to the Greenbrier resort in West Virginia.  The field is headlined by Phil Mickelson and has a few other notables in it such as Tom Watson and Kenny Perry; both are ambassadors of the resort.  Louis Oosthuizen will be hoping to prove his fitness especially with the Open right around the corner.  Si Woo Kim as the youngest official PGA Tour member a matter of weeks after his 18th birthday.  AT&T winner Bill Haas is also taking part aloing with the three previous winners of the Greenbrier.

This is a full field event with cut; cut bonuses will be in effect.

Everyone please notify others of changes in field before tournament starts and invalid or incomplete picks from participants.

RULES

Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:

Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.

Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).

If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.

Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.

Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place.
It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.

Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply.

Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.

Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.

Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.

All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Not as interesting a field as the French Open but ... as 1GG lives in the States, I suppose that's his preference.

So, picks from another boring US of A event are:

Cat A: Billy Horschel and DA Points (res Graham DeLaet)
Cat B: Brendon de Jonge  and David Lingmerth (res Jordan Spieth)
Cat C: Davis Love III and John Daly (res Dicky Pride)

Can you tell I'm not really interested Embarassed

Post by 1GrumpyGolfer Thu Jul 04, 2013 12:58 am

I'm not really sure how to respond other than to repost my comment from event 5 when the choice of events was previously criticised.

Bearing in mind the schedule was put together late in 2012 and the Spring/Summer schedule was posted on April 2 for comment.

From event 5:
We have 8 events left in this session and they are balanced as follows:

3 ET events: Wentworth, Munich and Scottish Open
3 PGA events: Memorial, US Open and Greenbrier
2 LPGA events: Wegmans (major) and US Open

The first five events on this session had 2 ET and 3 PGA; I try to balance the events out so that each event has what I think will have the stronger and more interesting field. Also, I would have thought that having PGA events would give some additional interest whilst watching in the evenings.

I have a preliminary schedule for the Summer-Autumn session and I'm open to suggestions (remember I did switch events at your request so that we had the Kraft Nabisco in the first session) I'm happy to send the schedule of events through for your thoughts; and that goes for anyone else that is interested too. When I was putting this together the ET was very light in places and I couldn't find anything for the ladies either at that time. Currently there would be 4 PGA events in a row, after the Open, including a WGC and the USPGA but we then switch to the ET for the rest of the season.

No one

The best bit of luck I ever had Setup was spending £2000 on shares at a cost of 15 pence each, invested in a fledging IT company in the early 1980's right at the start of the IT boom. A few years later and with the proceeds I built a four bedroomed house on an acre of ground and paid cash cheers

No obviously I didn't know that Grumps and a decent sort of bloke would have tipped me off Evil or Very Mad

Are you sure you have not got too much time on your hands with such impressive and meticulous research as that? Wink

Bearing in mind we both get our research from the same place I think you couldn't have been paying too much attention; must have been distracted by memories of Selina Scott.....

Different places I think...my research showed Phil as the bookies favourite!

And no need to harp on about the Selina Scott episode...I was just a boy at the time Innocent

Favourite to make them a lot of money, another missed cut for Phil at the Greenbrier.  John Daly also withdrew, quelle surprise...

Big surprise is that -8 is still the lead!

Tournament value: Weighted 1

6. Mary_S ____________ 20 (4/6) ____ 00 ____ 00 ____ 00 ____ XX _____ XX ______ 20

________________________________________________________________________

Looks like a very low scoring round 12.

Shows none of us are any good at this, when there is a crap tourney in the good ole US of A.

LadyPutt wrote:Not as interesting a field as the French Open but ... as 1GG lives in the States, I suppose that's his preference.

Looks to me, that you've won this.

Maybe lacking interest makes your picks play better.

Embarassed Shocked Thanks but I think I'll wait for the official confirmation from Grumps. Didn't even watch the coverage last night so I've no idea who did what. What with GMac in Paris and Andy M at Wimbledon, I had to record the Grand Prix and watch it last night. I've still got the Lions' demolition of Australia to enjoy yet. What a weekend of sport for GB & I (only spoilt by Hamilton's dreadful start in Germany - I think even I could have beaten him off the start line).
