As expected the gloating BlueCoverman took home the bacon from the Players Championship despite being run close by Mary_S. He had three finishers versus her two and that was enough to seal victory. Davie had a first and last combo to move into third place. SetupDetermines was derailed by Sergio Garcia’s meltdown over the last two holes. RedRage and LadyPutt barely scratched the surface and the less said about 1GrumpyGolfer’s performance the better.
67 was the low score of the day and that was set by Kevin Streelman, Martin Laird, and Jimmy Walker. Peter Hanson had the worst round with an 82. No one picked any of these players so no bonus points were awarded.

After weather delayed the completion of the third round nothing much happened for GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers. 49 year old Jeff Maggert had the round of the day posting 66, Ben Curtis had the worse round with an 80. The Top 10 Low Scores mark was 69 and another old boy was among them; Angel Cabrera with the best round of the remaining picks earned points for Mary_S who closed the gap on BlueCoverman to 10 points. No doubt he will remind us that he’s still looking good with two of the three players sharing the lead after round 3.

No one likes a show off so to BlueCoverman who just missed out on the perfect six due to Jim Furyk. Mary_S’s picks heeded her cry and pulled their fingers out, four of them making the weekend cut. Everyone bar SetupDetermines had half of their picks through: Setup could only manage two.
Sergio Garcia had the round of the day with a 65, he earned low round bonus points for BlueCoverman and SetupDetermines. Greg Owen had the worse round of the day on the way to missing the cut, he shot 82. The cut line was Even par as we wave goodbye to over half the GolfChatUK Fantasy League picks.
The GolfChatUK Fantasy League moves west from Florida to Texas for the next event which is the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Some low and high scoring on the Stadium course at the TPC Sawgrass saw relative unknowns take the low and high points scoring positions. Roberto Castro shot 63 with no blemishes on his card; his highest score was a 5 on the 9th hole. In contrast Erik Compton had a bad day at the office with an 80. No one picked either of these players so the points stay in the bank.
The Top 5 Low Round Scores were 67 or lower and GolfChatUK Fantasy League picks of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy were among those scores. BlueCoverman, Davie and Mary_S picked Tiger and SetupDetermines chose Rory. They all share the lead after round 1. 1GrumpyGolfer, LadyPutt and RedRage all share 5th place with nil points.
Cut line could be under par so some picks need to pull their fingers out if they are to make the weekend.

The unofficial fifth major is upon with the players heading to The Players Championship. The Championship is played over the infamous Stadium course at TPC Sawgrass which was carved out of a swamp in Northern Florida. As usual it’s a strong field; the lowest ranked player is inside the top 450 in the OWGR excluding Joe Daley who won the Senior Players Championship. There 46 out of the top 50 in the OWGR, 25 major winners, 20 WGC winners, and 10 prior champions in the field.
The weather has not been kind recently and the island green 17th became an island due to heavy rains and some flooding submerging part of the walkway to the green.
This is a full field event with cut; cut bonuses will be in effect.

RULES
Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:
Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.
Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply.
Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.
Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.
Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.
All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Don't like the idea of an (unofficial) 5th major - but that is a really strong field! Looking forward to it!

That's how the PGA Tour refer to it because the field is usually really strong and supposedly the players really want to win The Players.

Yes grumps I know - I wasn't having a dig at you - just the general perception of it - and it's often a stronger field than some of the real majors which is why I like it so much!

What have you seen/heard Setup? I haven't seen anything but then again I know 3/5 of #$%! all about pro golf so me not hearing anything is hardly a resounding endorsement

We have a tie for first and fifth at the moment courtesy of those that picked either Tiger or Coco and those that didn't. Full leaderboard to come in a couple of hours.

Thanks for the update GG, and well done to Angel for pulling his finger out! I'm on your tail Blue.
I'm going to stay at my sister's this evening, unfortunately she doesn't have Sky Sports (I sometimes wonder if we're really related), so I'll miss the final round unless I can find some online coverage.

Not wishing to butt in but as Grumps is probably on the golf course...it is points awarded for the top ten scores on round 3 the 'moving day' Setup. Sergio would have to scored 69 or better to earn some points

Anyone seen the fuss today over another suspect drop from Tiger?
I've seen a few YouTube clips and it seems to me he clearly dropped in the wrong place (by a couple of hundred yards, not a couple of feet) - how does he keep getting away with it?

I thought exactly the same thing about the drop - there was no way he should have dropped there. He should have done back, probably to just in front of the ladies' tee. But then, of course, he's Tiger Woods and seems to be able to drop anywhere he likes.

Lifted from the dark side:-
Rules violation?
Nope.
"I saw it perfectly off the tee," explained Wittenberg. "I told him exactly where I thought it crossed, and we all agreed"
Wittenberg reiterated that Woods actively consulted with him in order to determine the point where the ball last crossed the hazard.
"We talked to each other," he said. "I told him I thought it crossed on the corner of the bunker right where he took his drop.
"There is no doubt, guys," Wittenberg added. "The ball crossed where he dropped."
Following the conclusion of play, the PGA Tour released the following statement regarding the situation:
"Without definite evidence, the point where Woods' ball last crossed the lateral water hazard is determined through best judgement by Woods and his fellow competitor," the statement read. "If that point later proves to be a wrong point (through television or other means), the player is not penalized by Rule 26-1 given the fact that a competitor would risk incurring a penalty every time he makes an honest judgment as to the point where his ball last crosses a water-hazard margin and that judgement subsequently proves incorrect."
My guess is the conversation went something like this:-
"Where do you think that crossed Casey?"
I'm not too sure Tiger"
"I'll tell you what, you say it crossed right up here. They can't penalise either of us and next time I go to Vegas I'll take you with me and sort you out a couple of girls"

I must say I completely agree with the "idea" behind the PGA statement that it shouldn't be judged afterward - but it should be judged properly at the time FFS!
