There was a dramatic finish to the Masters as 3 Aussies ganged up on an Argentinian in an attempt to capture the Green Jacket. As an Argentinian already has a Green Jacket there were calls for Augusta to cede to Argentina but that got short shrift from the members. On the 72nd hole Adam Scott holed a putt for birdie to set the clubhouse total at -9. He had a one shot lead over Angel Cabrera who was stood on the 18th fairway watching Scott celebrate his putt. Wasting no time Cabrera dispatched his approach to a matter of feet and promptly holed the putt to tie. On the first extra hole they both came up short, Cabrera went first and shaved the edge. Scott answered and holed his par putt, Cabrera tapped in. On the second extra hole they both were in good shape and were on in regulation. Cabrera’s putt looked like it shaved the hole but it stayed up. Scott holed his putt and won the Green Jacket and his first major at Ausgusta.
Unlike the events at Augusta there was no dramatic finish in the GolfChatUK Fantasy League event. RedRage steamrollered the field into submission. Five of his six picks finished in scoring positions and he headed to the Butler Cabin for the Green Jacket presentation. Doc was his closest challenger with three scoring picks including Cabrera. BlueCoverman, LadyPutt, Mary_S and 1GrumpyGolfer all had two scoring picks. Davie and SetupDetermines were left drifting with one scoring pick.
No bonus points were awarded for the final round as Michael Thompson and David Toms had the low round of the day at -5, 67s. Kevin Na and Carl Pettersson had the worse rounds of the day with +9, 81s. Pettersson’s round was enough to earn him the last place dishonours.

All of the early drama at Augusta centred on Tiger Woods and a potential disqualification. That would have caused a seismic change in the leaderboard had it happened. But it stood as a two shot penalty and a huge sigh of relief was heard across the GolfChatUK Fantasy League from all apart from SetupDetermines.
Once the golf got underway RedRage took control of the tournament. Four of his six picks were among the Top 10 Low Scores including the low round of the day from Tim Clark. Doc was his strongest challenger with three picks in the low scores. BlueCoverman changed tacks and went for a two pronged attack. Not content with trying to pick the winner he coaxed Keegan Bradley to the worse round of the day too. Bradley happens to sit in last place now so he’s weirdly eyeing up last place too. 1GrumpyGolfer had two picks in the low scores and everyone, except SetupDetermines, had a scoring pick courtesy of Tiger Woods.
What will happen in the final round? Has RedRage already been sized up for a Green Jacket? Will we have a back nine charge from one, none, or several?

Jason Day’s final birdie on 16 caused a lot of heartbreak as it moved the cut line from +5 to +4. The main beneficiary was RedRage as he had all six picks through to the weekend. The popular trio of Martin Laird, Padraig Harrington, and Ian Poulter caused the most pain. BlueCoverman and Doc both came the closest to matching RedRage as they had five picks; BlueCoverman only missed out due to the change in the cut line.
Jason Day also had the round of the day with a 68. Hiroyuki Fujita set the worse mark at 85. No one picked either of them so the bonus points went by the wayside.
The race for the low amateur is over as only one is left standing and it’s the kid! Despite a one shot penalty for slow play he still managed to make the cut. No one will be earning points from the race as all the picks came up wanting.
What will moving day bring us? Can anyone close the gap on RedRage?

The final event of the Winter/Spring session got underway and signaled the start of golf season proper. SetupDetermines took the opportunity to make his move and thanks to Sergio Garcia he takes the lead after round 1. Garcia matched the low round mark set by Marc Leishman earlier in the day. RedRage and LadyPutt are the closest chasers as they rue Dustin Johnson’s late bogey dropping him into 3rd place. Everyone else has to settle for nil points.
In the race for low amateur the kid broke out of the pack and set the mark at +1. His closest rival was Steven Fox at +4. Nathan Smith and TJ Vogel share third spot and Michael Weaver is in 5th. Popular pick of Alan Dunbar had a bit of a shocker and is propping up not only the amateur leaderboard but the full tournament one too. His round of 83 could have been a lot worse but he had a pretty good back nine considering.
Storms are expected in the area overnight and that could cause a delay in starting round 2.

It’s that time of year again as we head to Georgia for the Masters. The unofficial start to the season is upon us as the world almost steps back in time by crossing the threshold and onto Magnolia Lane. In this genteel place the golfing vocabulary changes, where there is no rough or spectators but different cuts and patrons. Pristine manicured fairways and flowerbeds set the scene for the tournament which really only gets serious on the back nine on Sunday. This is where players will negotiate the swirling winds of Amen corner and listen to the roars generated by those on a charge and hopefully make their own to don a green jacket on the 18th green.
There are 94 entrants to this year’s tournament; the final entrant, Martin Laird, claimed his place at the last minute through victory at the Valero Texas Open. There is a very top heavy field; 49 of the top 50 are at Augusta. The only one to miss out was Marcel Siem; his valiant performances in his last two events fell agonizingly short of the criteria set forth by the committee. In the field are 17 first timers, 6 amateurs and 18 past champions.
As there six amateurs in the field we will also be picking the low amateur to run alongside the main competition. The amateur pick does not have to be one of your category picks unless you wish to include them for that too. 30 bonus points are on offer.
This is a full field event with cut; cut bonuses will be in effect.
