Darren Fichardt came so close to making it back to back victories on the European Tour but he was ultimately held off by Dawie Van Der Walt and had to settle for second. The other joint leaders after the third round did not have much fun out there sliding down the leaderboard to a tie for fifth and twenty seventh!
SetupDetermines marched on to a comprehensive wire to wire victory aided by two top 10 scoring finishes. LadyPutt was the only real chaser but she slipped further behind after the final round. Everyone else was chasing scraps. RedRage had three of his four picks score finish points but they weren’t enough to stop Doc taking third on countback. Doc’s pick of Danny Willett finished higher than any of RedRage’s picks. 1GrumpyGolfer had all of his picks, all two of them, score points and that was just enough to sneak out of last place and above Davie on countback.
There were bonus points to be had for low round but no one had chosen Desvondes Botes but Doc did chose Matthew Nixon who slumped to a final round 79. Those extra points helped boost Doc to third. There was a tie for last place; Jose Maria Olazabal and Grant Muller finished at +3 just 24 shots behind the winner.
Next week sees the GolfChatUK Fantasy League travel to the Doral Resort in southern Florida for the second of four World Golf Championships. It’s a strong, limited field, no cut event with plenty of points to play for.

We may as well call this the SetupDetermines show; another three picks in the scoring positions and a further extension of his lead. LadyPutt is trying valiantly to keep up with him with two scoring picks. Mary_S is making a bit of a charge; her old favourite keeping up the good work and scoring some points too. Everyone else scored a big, fat, lonely, zero.
Darren Fichardt had the low round of the day again so SetupDetermines and LadyPutt have big smiles. Scott Arnold had the worse round but no one had picked him.
Will LadyPutt be able to make one final push or will SetupDetermines hold on for another win?

Carnage ensued at the Tshwane Open at Copperleaf Golf & Country Estate as play was stopped for a dangerous situation. No it wasn’t a Pistorious trying to get his own way and make the cut but the threat of lightning. The carnage resumed on Saturday morning as round 2 resumed at 6:45am and everyone didn’t return for that early start. Jaco Van Zyl and Simon Dyson were among those taking early baths. Several other GolfChatUK Fantasy League picks didn’t make it either but that didn’t really affect SetupDetermines as he had 5 picks through. The one that didn’t was one of his low scorers from round 1; Jeev Milkha Singh had a bad day at the office missing out by 1 shot ultimately.
RedRage, LadyPutt and Doc had 4 picks make it through to the final rounds. BlueCoverman had 3, Davie and 1GrumpyGolfer both had 2 picks. Mary_S had 1 pick in an old favourite.
There was some good scoring to be had as pros tried to make the cut. The low round was 65 and 5 pros shared that mark. Charl Coetzee, Dawie Van Der Walt, Louis De Jager, Magnus A Carlsson and Paul Waring were the good scorers. Davie earned 10 bonus points from Waring. At the other end of the spectrum Tyrone Ferreira slumped to a +9, 81. No one picked him and those points were left on the table.
Round 3 is already underway and there’s many Fantasy Leaguers hoping for some good scores from their picks so they can get some points on the board.

SetupDetermines confesses to having a magic pin and boy does this work. Half of his picks ended up in the top 3 after round 1 of the Tshwane Open. With the low score and two other low scoring picks he has a 20 point lead over LadyPutt who also picked the lowest scoring player.
BlueCoverman, Mary_S and RedRage rounded out the scoring Fantasy Leaguers as they each had 1 pick shoot low. Davie, Doc and 1GrumpyGolfer have strong shoulders as they hold up the leaderboard. It’s especially distressing for 1GrumpyGolfer as two of his reserves have scored points.
By all accounts the course is a bit of a monster at Copperleaf Golf & Country Estate and the highest ranked players, Simon Dyson, had one of the worse rounds of the day. Fortunately for him but unfortunately for some Fantasy Leaguers it wasn’t the worse. JG Claassen and Tsietsi Chabangu both carded +8, 80s however no one picked them. Darren Fichardt continued his fine form of late shooting the round of the day, a -7, 65. SetupDetermines and LadyPutt chose wisely.
With over half the field under par already there’s work to be done for some in round 2 if they are going to make it to the weekend.

RULES
Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:
Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.
Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply.
Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.
Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.
Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.
All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Grumps - I'll be away on holiday (whoopee ) for Events 13 and 14 so please can you allocate numbers 2 and 7 in each category for me? Can't do any worse than my usual carefully-considered picks . I'll pick for this later.

Certainly LP, I'll make your picks based on those "lucky" numbers for Tampa and Bay Hill. Would you like to add a "luckier" numbered reserve just in case?

No, just move up one (to 1 or 6) if those numbers pull out. Thanks Grumps.

Just checked the qualifying tournament and seen that Laurie Canter has shot an -11, 61 to seal his place in the tournament proper. Looks like -5 or -6 will be the mark. Those at -4 will be in a playoff as it stands.

There's around 6 groups left out on the course at the moment including Steve's. Qualifying mark looks to be -5 under or better. At the moment 12 players will playoff for 1 spot at -4.
EDIT: -4 is out and anyone posting -5 now will play off.

Unfortunately Steve shot level par and missed out on qualifying for this tournament.
6 guys, at -5, will play off for the 3 remaining spots.

Waiting to the last minute Blue? Hope your not cherry picking
We may have to watch out for Mary's pick, he might blow our picks away!

Bjorn Akesson will hope his pattern doesn't continue. 66 in round 1, 75 in round 2 and he followed that with another 66. I'm sure he'll be hoping for better things in round 4.
LPRPitis with a vengence; Fichardt with perhaps another round of the day, a fine round of 64. Tied at the top with Charl Coetzee as he looks to make it back to back wins in South Africa. I don't think even my admin skills can get me off the bottom of this one

Well done SetUp.
Thanks for the results GG, even though they make depressing reading for some of us!
Although I finished in the bottom half of the table, I do have a present from one of the competitors!

Bribery to ensure you pick him Mary? I suppose if you exchanged them for a razor it's okay

Actually, I think that it's a bribe NOT to pick him. The curse of Typhoid Mary strikes all too often.

Top 10 finish this week which should get him into the next event if he isn't already qualified for it.

I was cursing Darren Fichardt all the way in the final round as he contrived to lose me points but well done to Dawie VDW on his first win on the RT.
