A case of after you, no after you, no what about that guy; after him. It seemed as if no one really wanted to win the Northern Trust Open at Riviera today. Bill Haas, suffered a nosebleed early on the back nine. Hunter Mahan made a charge but got stage fright. Freddie Jacobsen three putted the last to miss the play off. That left John Merrick and Charlie Beljan standing atop the leaderboard. After parring the first play off hole on 18 they moved to 10. Merrick laid up again and it paid off again. He made 3 the first time round and par the second time and that was enough to pip Beljan. It was Merrick's first tour win and he would have been a great Cat C pick had anyone picked him.
After the last man was eventually left standing on the course Davie found himself at the head of the table. He had three of his four picks in the finish positions and his fourth was just outside them in 21st place. This was enough to see off 1GrumpyGolfer who had two of his five picks score points. Everyone else had one pick score points except Doc, he just missed out as Mickelson also finished in 21st place.
Hunter Mahan was in with a chance of low round of the day but a head for heights got the better of him. That mark fell at -4 and was shared by Charlie Beljan, Sang-Moon Bae and Greg Chalmers. The worse round was from Michael Bradley, a +8, 79 and this helped him fall to last place. All of the last day's bonus points were left on the table.
The Accenture WGC Matchplay is the next event for GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers and it starts a day earlier than usual on Wednesday.

Moving day was just that as the pros took to the stage at the third round of the Northern Trust Open at Riviera. With 79 pros left after the halfway cut we were going to say goodbye to some of them as the field size got reduced again.
Bill Haas made the best of the conditions as he roared into the lead after round 3. The defending champion bested the field with a -7, 64. This earned bonus points for 1GrumpyGolfer and RedRage. Hunter Mahan had the joint third best round of the day and he earned bonus points for Davie.
Jason Kokrak crashed to the worse round of the day with a +10, 81. SetupDetermines benefited from the 10 points that come with that non distinction. However it was bittersweet as Kokrak found himself MDF'd.
We also saw another GolfChatUK Fantasy League pick fall by the wayside; Retief Goosen slipped to a 75 and was trunk slamming a day early. Doc was the loser in this instance.

Shock horror, round 2 finished on Friday albeit almost in the dark. The dark probably was a factor in the cut line moving as Colsaerts, one of the last to finish, 3 putted 18 and got the +2s in. This will also create an MDF situation for up to 9 players. This didn't mean a thing for GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers as none of their picks had finished on +2.
It was a real mixed bag of performances from the GolfChatUK Fantasy League picks. Patrick Cantplay, sorry Cantlay, double bogied the last to miss the cut by one. That cost Doc and 1GrumpyGolfer another pick for the weekend and in 1GrumpyGolfer's case ultimately the cut bonus points. Mary_S improved her chances by doubling the number of her picks through to the weekend from the last event. Doc had four picks through and that kept his lead intact at the top of the leaderboard. Davie also had four picks through and is leading the chase with LadyPutt.
The low round score was 65 and four pros shared that mark. Bryce Molder, Sang-Moon Bae, John Rollins and Fredrik Jacobsen all shot -6. Jacobsen was the only one that earned bonus points and the were for Davie. The worse round was +9 and that was by Michael Thompson. No one picked Thompson so those points fell by the wayside.

Round 1 of the Northern Trust Open eventually finished on day 2. The 18 pros left to complete the final few holes had an early start to finish their first round before dashing back to the 1st or 10th to start round 2. These guys did not affect the scoring in any great shape or form as the bonus points had already been dished out.
Matt Kuchar had the round of the day with a -7, 64. He was chosen by LadyPutt and Doc and almost RedRage. Charles Howell III got the nod ahead of Kooch and what an inspired pick Chucky 3 Sticks was. Mary_S shared in low round bonus points with Sergio Garcia, he finished a shot behind Kuchar and among the Top 5 Low scores. No one else managed to get a pick at that level.
The worse round dishonour went to Sean O'Hair, a +12, 83. He was suitably embarrassed that he exited the scene a round early by withdrawing after his round.
The cut line stands at +1 at the moment but with half the field still to play there could be a lot of movement in that.

WARNING THIS IS NOT A FINALISED FIELD; THE PLAYERS LISTED HERE MAY WITHDRAW OR MAY BE ADDED TO.
Now that’s out the way back to the matter at hand. The PGA Tour moves North up the California coast to Los Angeles for the Northern Trust Open at Riviera Country Club. This small, tight venue harks back to yester year with the 10th hole being arguably one of the best short par 4s in the world. Last year the 10th was used as the second playoff hole and Bill Haas holed a monster birdie putt to win the event. He pipped Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley after both had birdied the last hole in regulation play to tie him.
All three are in the field along with five Englishmen and a bloke named English. Performances this week will go a long way in deciding the ties for the first round of the WGC Matchplay next week.
Full field event, cut bonuses are in effect.

RULES
Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:
Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.
Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply.
Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.
Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.
Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.
All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

That's a nice looking field this week - less of the "pin in the map" and more educated pickings .. so we'll all be rubbish I expect!

Nope, all would be Cat B based on their OWGR rankings of 109, 133 and 108 respectively.

Cat B: Matt Kuchard and Padraig Harrington (res Mark Wilson)
Cat C: Ken Duke and Troy Matteson (res Scott Verplank)

O'Hair the first of 6 withdrawals today. The fog rolled in earlier than expected and play was suspended for the day with 18 players imcluding 4 Fantasy League picks still to finish their round. Early starts tomorrow and the round 1 update will be out around early evening UK time.

As no-one picked him, I would let the reserve play.

Setup, it was more about his round counting towards the worse round score. A similar thing happened at the Masters last year with Gary Woodland.

That was how I was going to treat but I wanted confirmation from the good Lady Judge. I was worried that his score would disappear, similar to Woodland's, and that would cause some colourful folks, not mentioning any names, to question what happened or why their chopper didn't get worse round points

Round 1 is almost complete. Round 2 is well underway. Cut line will be around -1 or even; some picks need to get their act together.
Kuchar and Sergio looking good to earn low scoring points for LadyPutt, Doc and Mary_S.
Leaderboard will appear around 7pm UK time.

Looking like a poor week for me I'm afraid - but definitely suffered from LPitis on the Yahoo league - had both Kuchar and Garcia on the bench!

I don't think I'm going to be causing too many problems, need a good round from Ricky Barnes just to ensure that half of my picks make the cut.

I knew that heady feeling of being at the top wouldn't last! Let down big-time by 4 of my picks missing the cut and also by Koooch with his farce in the bunker. Even I could have got out of that one - just take a bit more loft!!!

We've all been there Freddie. Big swing, swish the grass, "where'd it go?", "nowhere". @?&$! Expensive 5th hole in progress for Freddie.

Bittersweet round from Jason Kokrak for Setup. Comfortably the worse round of the day earning the bonus points but he won't be playing tomorrow as he MDFs.
We'll also say goodbye to the Goose and possibly J.J. Henry under the MDF rule.

Kokrak and the Goose pack their bags a day early, Henry makes it to the last round on the number as 6 pros MDF'd.

Should have gone with Streelman instead of Hearn from the sleeper picks. Looks Hearn was actually sleeping rather than playing

John who? Never heard of him. Anyone who backed Mr Merrick last week and cleaned up has my deepest admiration!
