There were two 57s, a couple of 59s and some 60s thrown in on the final day. No this wasn't played on the Playstation, Xbox or Wii; this was at Royal Durban at the rain shortened Nelson Mandela Championship. LPRPitis reappeared as its founder succumbed yet again. Jaco Van Zyl was one of the Heinz players but didn't make it to the final team selection for LadyPutt.
The actual championship was won by Scott Jamieson after a playoff. He was the other Heinz player who ended up at -7 with Steve Webster and Eduardo de la Riva. Eduardo de la Riva was eliminated at the first extra hole after he failed to get up and down from a greenside bunker. Webster and Jamieson replayed the 18th again with Webster being the wayward player this time around. Webster found thick rough off the tee, ended up next to a greenside fence, got a free drop and failed to get up and down. Jamieson made another regulation par to win.
Despite trying to give away points no one scored anything. Rounds of 60 or better or 71 or worse would have scored points but no one had anyone with those scores. The worst round of the day was a 74 by Eddie Pepperell but it wasn't enough to earn him a last place finish. That dishonour went to Reggie Adams who finished at +13.
The new finish points did earn some extra rewards as 6 GCUK Fantasy Leaguers had a 21st placed finisher but the day and tournament belonged to RedRage. His pick of Tim Clark made all the difference, Clark double bogied 17 to fall out of a playoff spot and he finished fourth wrapping up a huge margin of victory for RedRage.
Steve Surry shot a final round 63 to finish in a tie for 39, he's Monday qualifying again for the Alfred Dunhill Championship. Here's hoping for better weather and finish for Steve at Leopards Creek this week.

The much awaited start to the 2013 Race to Dubai almost never got off the start line. Heavy rains made Royal Durban something more like a swimming pool as opposed to a golf course. Round 1 was postponed until Friday and then Saturday. The Nelson Mandela Championship has been shortened to a 36 hole tournament so the first GCUK Fantasy League event has been demoted to a non counting event. There's no cut points and just for laughs there are points for the top 5 low scores in each round and the worst three scores. Finish placings are through the top 30 and the worst 5.
LPRPitis seems to be under control and RedRage is the only one who scored any points under the new points scoring system. His pick of Tim Clark shared the low round of the day with Morton Orum Madsen. They both shot 60; don't get excited it was only 5 under par. The course was shortened somewhat due to the rain and there are 4 par 4s converted to par 3s and there are now 8 par 3s in total.
The worst rounds of the day were 72s, which again don't seem so bad until you realise they were +7. These rounds belonged to Reggie Adams and Jack Kutumane.
Rounds of 62 or better or 71 or worse would have scored points but no one had anyone with those scores. Hopefully the final round will bring more points scoring opportunities.

Less than two weeks after Rory McIlroy closed out the 2012 Race to Dubai the inaugural Nelson Mandela Championship kicks off the 2013 Race to Dubai and the 2013 GCUK Fantasy League. The event is headlined by Branden Grace, 4 time winner on the 2012 European tour, George Coetzee, and a strong South African Tour contingent. But those two are small beer compared to GolfChatUK's very own Steve Surry. With a Monday qualifying -6 round Steve makes it to the hallowed hall of fame which is a GolfChatUK Fantasy League field. Good luck to Steve and a pleased as punch Mary_S

Blue, remember the auditor position is still unfilled. It may take some time before the numbers are double checked or manufactured to your satisfaction.
However, you can take advantage of this great deal, just send a one time payment for $150 and your scores can be inflated. Call now and benefit from a score adjustment. But if you call in the next fifteen minutes we'll double our offer and give you two score adjustments, worth a value of $300, just pay separate shipping and handling. So that's two score adjustments to be used whenever you need them for one low price of $150. But there's more call within the next fifteen minutes and take advantage of an even better deal; we'll give you not one, not two, but four score adjustments all for one low price of $150. That's a $600 value, just pay separate shipping and handling. Call now, agents are standing by for your call.

Nothing worse or more frustrating than that is there. Especially when you were just about to close a $600 deal for the knock down price of $150...

Don't forget with shipping and handling it could have been more expensive than you thought.

Before making my picks, please can I request an addition to Cat C? Steve Surry who shot -6 in qualifying this morning, so will be teeing it up on Thursday - OWGR 1247.

Pronounced Sheedy-ka... or at least he has been the last few years when the ET checks into Africa. I prefer to call him Shite-kat because there would be more laughter in the world if it were so.

Trying to get Victor Chandler to add Steve to their start list - they don't seem to have the qualifiers odds on their site!
Re: GolfChatUk Fantasy League 2012 – Winter/Spring Session - Event #01
200/1 for Steve on Bet Victor - or 16/1 for a top 10 finish!

Mary - the key to safe gambling is never to bet more than you can afford. I've had a wee punt on your boy to finish top 10, just to show support and to give a little extra interest to the event. Don't worry though, it won't bankrupt me

So Steve is off last from the first tee in the afternoon wave. He's playing with Challenge Tour phenom Kristoffer Broberg and some other bloke.
He's off at 1:20 local, 11:20 UK, 6:20 ET. Good luck to Steve

Cheers GG - he's played with the other bloke before, not sure about Broberg though. Two hour rain delay at the moment!
Update - play cancelled today, due to water-logged course.

I refer you back to a prior FL event where it was clearly stated that I had my finger somewhere else other than the pulse of pro golf. Anyway; breaking news just in: rain stops play, come back same time tomorrow.

I guess it could be described as a McDowellesque response to shouts from the crowd of mashed potato, indahole, youdaman, beef lo mein, boom baby, etc.

Every fairway almost completely under water. They are hiring more pumps, but it looks like there might be more rain this afternoon.

Due to rain damage, 4 par 4's are now par 3's, so par is 65.
