In the final round of the Joburg Open scoring remained impressive. Richard Sterne, fresh off a second place finish last week, completed a wire to wire performance where he could almost stop and smell the roses in a 7 shot win over Charl Schwartzel. Sterne had another low round with another -8; his worse round of the week was -4. There were plenty of low round bonus points paid out as Ricardo Santos matched Sterne's -8 round.
Eight GolfChatUK Fantasy League picks finished in the Top 20 placings including four of the top 5. LadyPutt had all three of her weekend playing picks in a scoring position including two third places. Davie and SetupDetermines also proved that you didn't need too many picks to score high finish points. They both had Richard Sterne. BlueCoverman and RedRage got themselves in a battle for top spot with three scoring picks, including a second and third place finisher, but they got blindsided by their battle and were overhauled. 1GrumpyGolfer had two of his three picks scoring points for him and they proved very fruitful. He had Sterne and Santos earning mucho points on the final day and this was enough to pass BlueCoverman and RedRage for the win.
The worse round of the day was from Michael Hollick at +6. He was one of two players to be over par at the end of the week. Josh Cunliffe's poor round yesterday saw him finish last. No one picked either of these two players and those points were not awarded.
Next week sees the GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers head back to the PGA Tour for the Northern Trust Open at Riviera Country Club. Who's picks will show them the love this Valentine's Day?

Day 3 saw all the pros head to the East Course for the final rounds of the Joburg Open. The scoring stayed relatively similar to the previous 2 days and only 10 pros made it the Top 10 Low Scores. Garth Mulroy had the low round of the day with -7. No one had him on their team and those extra points went begging. However Thomas Aiken and Jaco Van Zyl were among those with the low scores. They earned bonus points for RedRage and BlueCoverman. This gave RedRage a boost into joint 3rd and BlueCoverman a 10 point lead at the top of the leaderboard.
At the other end of the scoring stakes Josh Cunliffe struggled with a +10 round; he was not picked by anyone so those points were left unaccounted for. He has also separated himself at the bottom of the leaderboard so the there is a chance that those points could be wasted too.
Eight picks are within the scoring points so there is still a lot to play for in the final round.

With a huge field to choose from and a high cut line of -4 the GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers struggled for weekend picks. RedRage produced the best of the bunch with 5 picks through; he was waylaid by BlueCoverman's insistence on Jamie Elson being added to the field. This distraction meant that he missed out on the full complement. BlueCoverman had four picks through; Jamie Elson and the fantastic reserve pick of Oscar Floren didn't make it. There was a mixed bag for everyone else as they managed half or a third of their picks through. Spare a thought for Mary_S as she also had the misfiring Oscar Floren in her bunch. He led four others in her team to miss the weekend leaving Charl Schwartzel as her one and only pick.
The scoring was mixed in round 2. There were two rounds of -9 and two rounds of +12 on the two courses in Johannesburg. Trevor Fisher Jr and Graeme Storm had the low rounds and no one picked them so those bonus points went begging. Oscar Floren who was 99.99% certain to miss the cut ensured he did in spectacular style. He was on the supposedly easier course but that didn't stop him from scoring in excess of his round 1 score. He shared the worse round with Guillaume Cambis who at least had the excuse of playing the harder course. Mary_S and BlueCoverman rode Floren into the ground but those bonus points have come in very handy for both of them.
69 player have been left standing and moving day brings additional bonus points to the table. Will Mary_S and BlueCoverman make it a hat-trick of worse round scorers? Will LadyPutt manage to coax a reserve pick performance out of her main picks? Check out the third round to find out.

A bumper field, except Soren Hansen, took to the stage in Johannesburg, South Africa. They were split between the East and West Courses and some good and bad scoring ensued.
Fresh off a second place finish last week Richard Sterne opened his tournament with another fine round. His -8 round was enough to share first place with Maximilian Kieffer. Sterne, was picked by 1GrumpyGolfer, Davie and SetupDetermines.
The low round scoring was interesting as the pars for each course was different so a 65 or a 66 could earn you points depending upon which course the pro played. Doc and SetupDetermines each had a pick fill out the Top 5 places. I say a pick but SetupDetermines obviously needed some help so, I conspired to have him pick Soren Hansen and then replaced him with Joakim Lagergren much to his initial dismay. Those extra 10 points means SetupDetermines takes the early lead. Who says reserves aren't important?
BlueCoverman was also another recipient of the dastardly minded League Administrator, this time Hansen was replaced with Oscar Floren. There's a 99.99% chance that he'll miss the cut but his performance today earned the last place dishonours bonus points. Mary_S also got in on the last place act as she picked Floren as one of her main picks. She's pretty good at doing this, I think it's the 5th time now.
LadyPutt and RedRage are still to get off the mark with LPRPitis affecting both of them. RedRage benched Sterne and LadyPutt's Cat A and B reserves are both doing better than her full picks.
There's always another day and I'm sure round 2 will be eagerly anticipated. The cut line will be low 65 and ties and stands at -2 at the moment.

The Joburg Open sees a bumper field of 200+ players headlined by Charl Schwartzel of blow out win fame. Unfortunately he wasn’t to be upstaged by Steve Surry who narrowly missed out on a playoff place in the Monday Qualifier. If you recognise half of the field you’re doing well, some of them probably aren’t even famous in their own household.
The Joburg Open was where Branden Grace got his first win of a very successful 2012 for him and sees the huge field split over the East and West Courses on the first two days. The weekend play for those making the cut, 65 plus ties, will see the players concentrate on the tougher East Course.
Full field event, cut bonuses are in effect.

RULES
Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:
Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.
Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply.
Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.
Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.
Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.
All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Anyway you are the one to blame, if Soren Hansen had been playing I would have had all 6 make the cut
I reckon you're going to earn more points from Floren than you would have from Hansen. 2 worse rounds in a row, 20 points, that's going to be a boost on the leaderboard.

If you open the stat page up Floren has 83 on a par 71 (12 over par) course & Cambis has 84 on a par 72 (12 over par).
Do we go with strokes taken or is PAR god ?
One for the Judge methinks....

Be fair Grumps Jamie Elson only missed the cut by 3 shots, unlike your Soren Hansen who didn't even turn up...

I never picked Hansen at all so his withdrawal is nothing to do with me. He's listed on the Sunshine Tour website as entered but then withdrawn before the event.
I think you did pretty well out of him and so did Setup. LadyPutt is the one that may not have enjoyed any benefit from his withdrawal as I think her reserve missed the cut too but you would think the good Lady Judge would know the rules, especially the bit about: it is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field

Re: GolfChatUK Fantasy League 2012 – Winter/Spring Session - Event #08
Just think the Hansen thing is wearing thin now and here's the deal: I try and post the events on Monday mornings which means there's 2-3 days to go before the start of a tournament depending upon where it is. At that time the field is not confirmed and nor is it complete. Monday qualifiers are still to be completed, pros pull out and alternates come in so it's never going to be a perfect listing of the field. Because of that I quoted an excerpt from the rules about player withdrawals and starting times to remind everyone.
It was wrong of me to single LP out and for that I apologise to LP and I thank you for pointing it out. She didn't bitch or moan about Hansen not starting, if anything she seemed more upset that McEvoy just missed out on getting in on the worse round points.
Anyway, aren't you posting way past your bedtime, get to bed young man you have a big game tomorrow against Preston.

It was each way - but unfortunately I appear to have bet on Branden Grace by mistake! That's the 2nd time I've "misplaced" a bet, so next time I'll be triple checking before I press the "confirm" button.
