Well, it was all over bar the shouting in the Alfred Dunhill Championship; Charl Schwartzel went one better than his victory margin last week firing another round in the 60s. His 12 shot win was enough to place him 3rd on the biggest margin of victory behind Tiger Woods and Ernie Els. There was a 3rd hole in one at the par 3 12th, no it wasn't Keith Horne again but Magnus A Carlsson. Luckily BMW had another car to give away.
In the GCUK Fantasy League, RedRage surely knows his onions when it comes to South African golf. He managed the low round, high round combo to score points with George Coetzee and James Kamte. Kamte's poor round was enough to drop him to the bottom of the leaderboard earning the last place points that go along with that. Three of RedRage's picks four other picks finished in the top 10 earning another bundle of points for him but it wasn't enough to overhaul 1GrumpyGolfer.
1GrumpyGolfer had three picks in the finish places and that was enough to take victory. He rode the Charl Schwartzel bandwagon all the way to the end along with Garth Mulroy and Richard McEvoy. Other GCUK Fantasy Leaguers, LadyPutt, BlueCoverman, SetupDetermines and Davie, were all handicapped by the withdrawal of Louis Oosthuizen who was well placed to pick up points. Mary_S had all six picks through but ran out of magic in the final round as only two of her picks were able to break par and improve their placings.
Low round was George Coeztee, a -7, 65. High round was James Kamte, +12, 84. Last place James Kamte, +12.
This is the final event of 2012, roll on 2013 and the start of another golfing year. The next event will be the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii on January 4. So here's wishing all our GCUK Fantasy Leaguers, both past and present, a wonderful Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous, New Year.

Well, it seems like deja vu all over again. Do not adjust your sets, Charl Schwartzel is shooting 64 for the second day in a row at the Alfred Dunhill Championship. It's almost all over bar the shouting. With everyone else playing for second place, Charl Schwartzel can stroll to his second massive victory in a row.
The Charl Schwartzel bandwagon didn't just roll on it steam rollered on. He shared joint low round of the day with Andy Sullivan but his second 64 meant a 10 shot lead over the field. Everyone bar Davie and Mary_S got to enjoy the fruits of his labour. John Parry, Doug McGuigan and Branden Grace all got in on the Top 10 Low Scores in round three earning extra points for Mary_S, BlueCoverman, SetupDetermines and 1GrumpyGolfer.
There were worst score bonus points on offer by Tyrone Mordt; his round of 80 was enough to earn this dishonour but again no one picked this poor performer.

Painful update this time around using my iPad, copy and past functions a nightmare but these are the lengths I go to for the good folks of the GCUK Fantasy League.
The Alfred Dunhill Championship has been a lot more successful than the last event. We've had two rounds completed and this means a cut in the field. Unfortunately Davie and SetupDetermines were SOL to be eligible for the cut bonus as Oliver Wilson didn't finish his first round. They were at a disadvantage already and with Davie not jumping on the Charl Schwartzel bandwagon it certainly showed.
1GrumpyGolfer and Mary_S became the first recipients of the cut bonus as all six of their picks made it through, in fact only five GCUK picks didn't make it through so LadyPutt, BlueCoverman and RedRage all missed out by one pick and SetupDetermines and Davie also lost another pick to the cut.
The Charl Schwartzel bandwagon rolled on, he shot the low round of the day with an -8, 64 to earn another 10 points for those who scored points in round one. The high score of the day didn't go to JG Claassen, although he came close, it belonged to Albert Pistorius who shot 84. No one picked Albert so those points went begging.
Moving day brings more points into play and hopefully an easier update.

Quick leaderboard update whilst we await the good lady judge's ruling. Whatever she decides will not affect the round one leaderboard but it will have ramifications for round 2.
Apologies for the half assed update but that's the usual service you lot get from me anyway; getting that in before Blue does. Yes, I'm sure it would have been much better under the previous league administrator. My laptop is in for service with IT whilst I enjoy a four day weekend. Please expect more half assed updates as the weekend goes on.
LadyPutt made the early running at the Alfred Dunhill Championship with two picks making the top 5 low scores. She had the popular pick of Charl Schwartzel, he was fresh off his 11 shot victory in his last tournament. She also had the sense to pick the in form Steve Webster, he lost out in a playoff to Scott Jamieson in Durban last week. Those 20 points were enough to give her a 10 point lead over 1GrumpyGolfer, BlueCoverman, SetupDetermines and RedRage who had all chosen Charl Schwartzel too. Only Mary_S and Davie are yet to get off the mark.
No one chose Gregory Bourdy who has a 1 shot lead after a first round 66 and no one had the sense to pick JG Claassen who struggled to an 87.

The GCUK Fantasy League stays in South Africa for the, supposedly, Sunshine Tour event at Leopard Creek. It’s the Alfred Dunhill Championship where more of the big guns open their Race to Dubai account. There are a few former winners in attendance; King Louis, Charl Schwartzel, and defending champion, Garth Mulroy. Ultimately they will all be dwarfed by Steve Surryif when he makes it through qualifying.
The venue is Leopard Creek Country Club which is set on the southern border of the Kruger National Park. There will be plenty to distract the golfers as this venue has stunning safari backdrops and plenty of wildlife that is not camera shy. However this week holds an important milestone; it’s the last week to make or stay in the top 50 in the OWGR and make certain of a place in the Masters field.

RULES
Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:
Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.
Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply.
Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.
Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.
Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.
All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Re: GolfChatUK Fantasy League 2012 – Winter/Spring Session - Event #02
Doesn't seem to be any real-time scoring of the qualifier today but just a list of players who have finished
LINK
Some big scores out there but 10 guys under par so far. Mary - any idea how many of today's field qualify for the main event?
Steve was off around 8:20 UK time apparently so by late lunchtime we should have some idea if he's made it or not

Thanks Setup Although to be fair five others wouldn't have scored points if the platings weren't stretched.
Davie, I checked this morning and 27 players had finished, now 42 have finished and there are 15 players at -1 or better. I think there are typically 10 spots available from the qualifier; here's hoping Steve is one of them.

Yep - 45 finished now - and 17 players under par
Looking like Steve may need a 68 or 69 to make it through

A 68 for Steve and currently tied 5th
Still another 30 or so scores to come in but hopefully he's done enough! Mum might yet get a nice Christmas present!

Steve has just tweeted that it is 10 to go through so could be a playoff for 10 places if any more good scores come in - I'm sure we're all willing him on!
EDIT: now exactly 10 on -4 or better. Should at least be good for a playoff though

It is a playoff for the final spots as 13 guys finished at -4 or better. Steve needs a couple more good holes to get in. Good luck to him

Apparently I don't need to hide the sharp implements before Steve comes home. He was mighty hacked off with himself yesterday, as he 3 putted the 18th in normal play, but he's bounced back today. No comps now until New Year.
My tainted trios for this week:-

Cat B: Richard Sterne; Marc Warren (Res. Chris Lloyd)
Cat C: George Murray; John Parry (Res. Richard McEvoy)

Cat A: Charl Schwartzel & Louis Oosthuizen (res Michael Hoey)
Cat B: Peter Lawrie & Steve Webster (res Chris Lloyd)
Cat C: Joakim Lagergren & Michael Jonzon (res John Parry)
Looking forward to seeing lots of wildlife and Tony Johnstone's excellent commentary (on the birds and wildlife - not the golf) on Sky - he's a real expert and I'd love to go on one of his early morning bush walks

No, no extra points as LP should have used a snowman instead of Santa but it's clearly the site administrators fault for not providing a snowman smilie for use in the first place.
But as I'm in a mood (due to long weekend) I won't hold it against him

Come on Blue, that's an outside agency interfering with play, free drop as close as possible to point where ball last was. I think we just have to accept King Louis isn't the king of the swingers today.

Of course a decent admin would have created a snowman with a transparent background rather than a white one - would look much better. Anyone know a decent admin?

Calling the good lady judge, calling the good lady judge! I need a ruling please on Oliver Wilson.
He appears as Retired on europeantour.com which suggests he started the round but did not finish. as opposed to not starting at all. A check of the Alfred Dunhill Championship live scoring site suggests he was on the 13th hole when he withdrew but he doesn't have any actual scores listed for the holes he did play. I don't know whether SetupDetermines and Davie are SOL or to put in their reserve picks instead
Thank you, Grumps

Yes I believe he did start and therefore according to the rules, Setup and I are (as you so delicately put it), SOL
Of course if the good lady judge decides to rule in our favour, in the Christmas spirit and all that, then I'm sure we'll be eternally grateful - but I'm not holding my breath on that. Rules would be rules I'm afraid

The Charl bandwaggon is certainly steam-rolling ahead in this one.
Glad that Horne was eventually given a BMW for the 2 holes in one on 12th - would have been bit gutting to get two, but neither of them on the "right" day to win the car.

Thanks for the update GG.
Serves me right for trying to be clever, and not opt for the favourite to win.

What can I say Blue, both times I have thought long and hard about entering each comp. But look at it this way, without me RedRage would be running away with it; after just 2 events.
