RULES

Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:

Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.

Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.

Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.

Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.

Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply.
Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.

Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.

Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.

All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Scoring is pretty high so must be fairly hard going out there. Gary Boyd is +18 after 13 holes - he's had two 10s

Something like that Blue. Been off work to install steps to the deck and lay a patio plus create flower beds at the front which was an added job. It's also been a bank holiday weekend so I lost track of days. It's been hard work to do most of that so we have been to bed a bit earlier than usual.

To add insult to injury I haven't played since the 20th and my wife is just about to tee off as I type this. Don't spend all day on golf blogs was her parting comment.

Alas. The misery of dealing with the new IT system at work due to my company's involving video work for the corporate IT world doomed my selections for the week. The new security measure in place for our network did not allow the picks to go through yesterday even though I thought they had. Burn down the firewalls I say!

After speaking to our newly designated IT coordinator this morning when I discovered too late that my picks had not been submitted, (all non-preapproved external sites must be manually given permission) I can now freely move about. A day late and a dollar short as they used to say on this side of the pond. Too bad for me and I must add that the lumps of coal do not taste as bad as I thought they would.

As far as SetupDeterminestheMotion and his omission of Category A picks:
I have allotted him the bottom 3 picks in the category for this week only as an extreme token of our gesture as well as being sympathetic to the previous practice of selecting only Cat B and Cat C players when one first joined Goldwolf's Fantasy League.

Since this League is a direct descendant (and the only existing one at that as far as we know) of GW's work we can only bring good karma by such action and at the same time afford ourselves a good excuse if he wins the tourney.

There are four GCUK Fantasy Leaguers tied after the first round of play in Wales including the latest newcomer: SetupDeterminestheMotion. Each one of them were fortunate enough to have chosen Marcel Siem as one of their Category B selections. The rest of the bunch are tangled up at position number five due to the age old story of picking the favorites and just like the many times before, the favorites failed to show up on Day One.

Nobody chose Lee Slattery who shot the low score of the day and nobody chose Zhiqun Lam who chose to go on the lam with a noteworthy 92 or only 21 over par as those looking through rose-colored eyeglasses like to say. It is refreshing to know that there might be a few of the Fantasy Leaguers who could actually shoot such a score which only brings them closer to realizing that the fantasy of becoming a pro golfer is not that far away.

On the other hand, the fantasy of becoming a pro golfer is still light years away but if one takes a ride down to The Celtic Manor Resort as Mr. Lam has done this week, they will also be that much closer. To his credit Mr. Lam managed to birdie the Par 4 8th Hole and parred six other holes. All in days work.

Davie has jumped into the lead after two rounds in the GCUK Fantasy League event in Wales. He as well as 1GrumpyGolfer and LadyPutt managed to send 5 of 6 selections into the weekend. The other competitors were just glad to have advanced at least half of their selections but most have a few gems in hand to contend for the title come Sunday afternoon.

A closer look at the 3 best scores falling short of perfection:

Davie: missed a perfect day by that much. His lone underachiever, Marc Warren, did him in and a few others when he missed the boat by one stroke due to bogeying the Par 5 18th Hole, his last of the day. tsk. tsk. tsk.

1GrumpyGolfer: missed a perfect day by a little more. His choice of Eddie Molinari also fell one stroke shy because he failed to birdie one of his last two holes of the day including the Par 5 9th Hole. Worth two tsks.

LadyPutt: missed a perfect day by even a little more. Her Category B selection, Søren Kjeldson, double bogeyed the Par 4 14th Hole and proceeded to methodically pace the final four holes with pars to also finish one off the value line. Thus a value of one tsk.

And now a notable item from the Fantasy League social pages: David Howell has responded splendidly to LadyPutt's selection of him from Category C inventory with a tie for 12th after he felt jilted by the slight from Mary_S, his now former tryst mate, who interestingly left him off of her "preferred beau list" after having selected him for what seems like the entire season. Time will tell if he's acting like a gentleman with this rejuvenated performance or is he just another butterfly straying from the fairway distracted by the flowers in the rough serving as a flutter path to the bunkers. Who ever knew the City of Newport harboured such action?

I can't believe that David is so fickle - making the cut for Lady P, after I had remained loyal for so long!

As Venice points out, a few terrible scores in Wales. I certainly scored better than ziquin lam when i played their a few months before the ryder cup. Was wet when i played there so course played long and the wind really funnels through the valley so course can be very tough . 2 of my mates drove the green on 15, i played safe but was the only one to birdie the hole! Some really memorable holes just a shame the course sits on a flood plain in Wales .

Though over half of the field scored in Round 3, only two competitors were able to move up the ladder during 'moving day': boyhyde and Mary_S. boyhyde was able to move into a tie for first with Davie at 45 total points each. Mary_S climbed up to the seventh spot and 1GrumpyGolfer chose Graham Storm for worse round of the day which was worth 10 points. It's still anyone's ballgame heading into the last round.
