After the Sunday Foursomes it was pretty much all over bar the shouting. The unbeaten Justin Rose was primed to take the European Hero position and Patrick Reed was doing his best for the misfiring US team. Those two held onto their hero status, only two players failed to get any kind of positive result from their matches; Stephen Gallacher and Bubba Watson. Out of those four only Rose was picked to be the hero, Watson was picked to be a villain. Reed was picked as villain by lots of Fantasy Leaguers but he ended up being a pantomime villain instead; "Henrik!, he's behind you".
Four Fantasy Leaguers kept the faith in the European team by picking them for the win. Only Mary_S came closest to getting the actual result correct but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. Not many points to play for and not many were awarded; aren't you glad it's a non counting event now.
The 40th Ryder Cup will be shared between Davie and SetupDetermines who had a hero and villain to go with their correct team win. Mary_S and 1GrumpyGolfer share the final podium position and thanks to everyone else for showing up. Time to throw you under the bus in the press conferences.

After the Miracle at Medinah and a comeback for the ages the US team have turned to experience. Tom Watson has been appointed captain and been given the task of retrieving the Ryder Cup which was snatched out of their grasp two years ago. Paul McGinley has been charged with keeping the Ryder Cup in European hands and on paper his team look weaker than the Americans. His twelve man team has an average ranking of 20 but he has four of the top six players in the OWGR on his team. Two years ago Lee Westwood was ranked 4th in the OWGR and now he's the European lowest ranked player at 44. The US team led by Jim Furyk as the top ranked American has an average ranking of 16.
This year Fantasy Leaguers will not be subjected to the whims of the Captains but will still need to think carefully if they are to bring home the Ryder Cup. The competition is as follows:
1. Pick the Result
Pick overall result: Euro win / Tie / USA win (20 points)
Pick correct match score: example 14.5 - 13.5 (20 points)
Correct result and score combo: example US 14.5 - Euro 13.5 (20 points)
If you choose the Tie you automatically get 14-14 as the match score.
2. Pick your Europe Ryder Cup Hero and Villain
Pick your Hero (Top points scorer): One Player from Europe (20 points)
Pick your Villain (Lowest points scorer): One Player from Europe (20 points)
3. Pick your Team USA Ryder Cup Hero and Villain
Pick your Hero (Top points scorer): One Player from Team USA (20 points)
Pick your Villain (Lowest points scorer): One Player from Team USA (20 points)

I did tell LadyPutt how it would be played and it seems unfair to change the goalposts now at this late stage. There are fewer points to play for but you aren't subjected to the whims of the Captains as they select players for each session plus, it also means less admin for me...
Due to the fewer points on offer we could have a tie as a result however, a tie is possible in the Ryder Cup and the winners will share the honours.

LadyPutt's choices:

Sorry not to be patriotic but I just have a feeling USA will squeak it. Hope I'm proved wrong!

Except that if you get everything absolutely right you still will only score 140 points? Not much more than if you finish mid-table in a tournament weighted 1 event.

Moaning again Blue?
Just for clarification before Sunday so we don't get complaints, I assume if 2 or more players are heroes or villains they get full points? Or is it like with the bookies where the points get diluted for co-winners (and losers)?

Davie:
Heroes = top points scorers on each team. There could be more than one player that scores 3 points for example and that's the hightest total. Each player is eligible for the 20 points.
Villains = lowest points scorers on each team. There could be more than one player that scores 0.5 points for example and that's the lowest total. Each player is eligible for the 20 points.
Blue:
I believe, Last time around the Ryder Cup did not count towards overall points totals and if it makes you happier it won't count again. You're playing for the glory, not the points

Don't let him bully you Grumps
There may be fewer points on offer but I'd still take a max 140 points against Blue's 30
Maybe increase it to x2 value to make it more comparable? Or just add the points in anyway
Matchplay is a superior form of golf anyway so picking winners in a matchplay comp is far more important. I've already called up Capt. McGinley to tell him I'm available for a late call up

Deciding not to be lazy I checked what happened last time and the Ryder Cup was about the glory and not the points. It won't count again.
I think we had this as a non counting event because you couldn't guarantee that your picks would play more than one match whereas in a normal event they have at least two rounds depending upon whether there is a cut or not.

Isn't that the "skill" of picking players who will play more than one match?

So how would I manage to get 30 then if you can only score in multiples of 20?

If it was between you with 22 shots and Westwood off scratch I know who I would have in the team. And it wouldn't be slim Lee!

No, it wouldn't be either of them. Lee is dropped. Davie is another vice captain and every hole he says to his mate: this one for the half then. Game over for team USA

After the first day's play every team member has played.
There are plenty with 100% winning records but only Stenson and Rose have played two and won two. Davie and Red are looking very happy with themselves at the moment and are in the running for the bonus points.
On the US side almost everyone has at least one point although some needed two matches to get there. Everyone bar LadyPutt is tied for the lead in the US Hero stakes.
The villains for the European side are Poulter and Gallacher. They have a half point lead(?) over Thomas Bjorn who was picked by Grumps and Mary. No one's getting points at the moment
On the US side four picks for villains have a win and Simpson, Watson, and Mahan were picked to be losers and they're doing that so far. Blue, Mary, and Setup are in the running for bonus points.

I have an irrational dislike of Patrick Reed - he thinks very highly of himself and wears a silly necklace (I did say it was irrational)... But that idiot in the crowd who just shout 'have you been practising your putting, Patrick?' was well out of order. What a very crass way to behave, especially when there has been no needle between the players so far.
