It might have got exciting out at Ridgewood Country Club in the final round but in the Fantasy League it was something of a foregone conclusion. The lucky numbers of BlueCoverman proved to be too much for the chasing pack despite only one of his "picks" scoring points by finishing 15th. 1GrumpyGolfer was the most successful by getting a pick to finish in the top 10 but that meant he tied SetupDetermines who was the only other Fantasy Leaguer to score finish points, again, with a 15th placed pick.
Eventual winner Hunter Mahan shot 66 to take victory and move up into first place in the FedEx Cup standings. His run of consecutive playoff events looks set to continue. Stuart Appleby and Patrick Reed also shot 66 and that ties Mahan for the lowest round of the day. Chesson Hadley finished with the worst round and last place combo after a 78 left him seven over for the tournament.

As Phil paid another visit to the Five and Dime Grill, must like the steak sandwiches, on Saturday low scores were hard to come by. Some picks slipped back and others tried to make a move. No one was lost to the secondary cut so all picks remained in contention for Sunday. Local boy Morgan Hoffmann shot 66 for the low round of the day and three picks shot rounds of 68 or lower to make the Top 10 Low Round scores. BlueCoverman retains his overall lead as SetupDetermines and 1GrumpyGolfer try to keep pace. Henrik Stenson started out really well with a close range birdie at the first but then had a bit of a mare carding a nine, following it with another birdie, before finishing with four straight bogies. He ended the day with a 77 and Brian Davis matched that score to share the worst round of the day.

The holidaying BlueCoverman picked some lucky numbers as all of his picks made it through to the weekend. He earned all the bonuses whilst everyone else lost picks in categories B and C. The first playoff event of the FedEx Cup takes place at Ridgewood Country Club in New Jersey. The Barclays tournament is on rotation in the metropolitan New York area having previously been at Liberty National, the Black course at Bethpage, and Plainfield Country Club. At Ridgewood there are three sets of A.W. Tillinghurst designed nine holes from which the most difficult are selected to make up a composite course for the pros.
The defending Barclays champion is Adam Scott and the defending Ridgewood champion is Matt Kuchar; both have qualified for the playoffs in 15th and 4th places respectively. Only one player has played in all 28 playoff events so far and Hunter Mahan is scheduled to tee it up having qualified in 62nd place. He'll need to improve his standings if he's to keep that run going as the fields reduce through the Deutsche Bank Championship, BMW Championship, and the Tour Championship events. Three players have maded it to the Tour Championship every year, Mahan, Phil Mickelson, and Steve Stricker. Stricker's run looks to have come to an end this year. Only Tiger Woods has won the FedEx Cup more than once and Brandt Snedeker is the only winner to have made it to the Tour Championship in the following year.
Rory McIlroy is ranked number one in the OWGR and the FedEx Cup standings. His stellar play in his last three events has seen him knock Jimmy Walker off of the top spot in the FedEx Cup standings. However, qualifying at number one doesn't always mean you'll win the whole shebang as Woods and Henrik Stenson, from last year, are the only ones to do just that. After this event the top 100 will move onto the Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston.
There are a few players missing from the top 125, including two players from the top 20 in the OWGR, who are out through injury, suspension, or taking a break depending upon which theory you subscribe to. 68 out of 71 players in the top 100 of the OWGR will tee it up at the Barclays.
With this limited field event we are back to two picks from each category plus reserve. All the usual cut bonuses will be in effect.

RULES
Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:
Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.
Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply. Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.
Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.
Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.
All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Re: GolfChatUK Fantasy League 2013–2014 - Summer/Autumn Session - Event #4 The Barclays
I've picked the Barclays for two reasons; one, it has a lot of the top ranked OWGR players and two, and probably most importantly, I'm going on Thursday and Friday
I probably watch more pro golf in person than I do on tv.

First tee times 7:20 or 12:20 BST. Mary and Red still have some time but I'm not going to be in a position to validate if they do. If someone can keep an eye on this that would be great.

Rory's +3 after 4 holes- seems he's peaked! Mary and Red may have missed the boat

Zero points for everyone.....
I know this is a restricted field, but surely we are meant to score some points.
I cannot see any reason why we don't have 3 picks for a Weighted 1 event, even with a restricted field.

I have to say I don't really care at the moment. I just won a brand new $200 putter in a putting contest, don't laugh Davie or Blue, at the Barclays. You got five goes at a five foot putt. Each successful putt meant you had that number at a ten foot putt. I had five goes at ten feet. I missed one and then had four attempts at a forty foot putt. I holed it on my second attempt

Nice work with the putter GG!
Have to admit that I got confused with the days, so totally missed the boat for this one. My mum has recently been diagnosed with dementia, and I sometimes think that I'm not far behind her!

Not the comp - fair play to Grumps as always for doing it - but what a very DULL championship that was! I usually watch lots but found that one very boring. Hope it was better in the flesh for Grumps
Re: GolfChatUK Fantasy League 2013–2014 - Summer/Autumn Session - Event #4 The Barclays
Ridgewood was very old school with rough, rough and tricky greens with subtle breaks, humps and hollows. There didn't look to be very many flat spots on the greens and when they were designed green speeds were not the super quick speeds that they play at nowadays. I don't think they were very easy to putt on and for that reason players were careful in their approach. Also the par fives weren't really reachable, or accessible, or receptive so we didn't see many eagle opportunities over all four days. It was quite hilly with many holes playing uphill or downhill and I can't think of many, any, truly flat holes that were there; maybe the 4th?
The driveable par 4 5th hole was good; sat there for most of the time when not following a group. Some players going for it, some laying up, some putting it into the grandstands. With the pin position on Friday and Sunday players needed to control the spin as there was a natural backstop that they could use to help funnel the ball down to the hole. However if they imparted too much backspin it needed to hit the hole on the way back otherwise it was off of the green. This was the source of much hilarity for the fans as cheers and encouragement turned to groans as the ball wandered into the rough.
Player wise I think some that we would have passed over did very well, Stuart Appleby and Morgan Hoffmann, spring to mind so that didn't offer many scoring opportunities for us in the game.

Agree with you Davie - I found it very sleep-inducing! Glad Grumps enjoyed himself anyway. I think that must have been my worst Fantasy League score. Let's hope for a better Deutsche Bank Champs - minus Daddy GMac.Davie wrote:Not the comp - fair play to Grumps as always for doing it - but what a very DULL championship that was! Was thinking of the ET event this week as that will be full field versus the 90 or so players still committed to the Deutsche Bank Championship. Will post that event in a few hours.

You'd have had plenty to say if you saw my attempts at recreating it on Sunday. Woeful to say the least especially when one of the guys there said "you won one on Friday, right?"
