WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship
Rather than clog up Grumps' fantasy thread, I thought a WGC event was worthy of a thread of its own - starts today!
What do we fancy as 1st round shocks?

You really think so Setup? I know a lot of people these days would hope for that sort of shock .. but I just can't see it myself
Re: WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship
Play is kicking off in about 3.5 hours and the weather could cause a bigger shock to the players to start with. Going to be a bit cold with the possibility of snow, sleet, hail, or rain. You know those weather experts; always good for heging their bets. Should be better for the rest of the week.

CH3 to gain revenge for Tiger beating him up at US Amateur when CH3 was 17.

Re: WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship
We've picked 54 of the 64 players in the Fantasy League. The no hopers are:
Shane Lowry
Russell Henley
Alexander Noren
Rafael Cabrerra-Bello
David Lynn
Marcel Siem
David Toms
Thongchai Jaidee
Marcus Fraser
Hiroyuki Fujita
So we should expect at least 2 of these to win and screw our predictions. My two out of these ten: Jaidee and Toms
Shane Lowry
Russell Henley
Alexander Noren
Rafael Cabrerra-Bello
David Lynn
Marcel Siem
David Toms
Thongchai Jaidee
Marcus Fraser
Hiroyuki Fujita

Has anyone found a better interactive scoreboard than this one? http://www.worldgolfchampionships.com/accenture-match-play-championship/leaderboard.html
It's awful but the only one I can find!

Re: WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship
I think that one's better - the other one doesn't seem to show how many holes they have played. I think it's soon time for me to leave work "for a meeting" and scuttle off home - it's on Sky at 5pm.

Thanks Davie, I was about to moan about the original one too. It's almost as if you need 4 tabs open to see them all. Jason Day with a fast start against Zee-Jay

Play suspended due to snow - wouldn't it be fun if they put them on temps when they resume

I love it when it happens to the pro's too. I've only managed 4 rounds in 4-months due to the conditions and weather. Never win a bean in the fantasy league so sulks all round

Re: WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship
The plan is to get rounds 1,2 and 3 out of the way today and tomorrow but I don't think they will be underway in a couple of hours as they hoped. The forecast is for temps being in the 30s at the supposed start of play so that's likely to bring a frost delay. It'll be like golfing in the Poconos in October for these guys; delayed starts, cold maybe nice if the sun comes out.

Re: WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship
Play confirmed as being pushed back an hour already. Should be going off at 9:30 local, 11:30 NY and 4:30 Thames Valley
EDIT: Another hour delay: 10:30 local, 12:30 NY and 5:30 Thames Valley, will this be the last? Those on the ground don't think so....

You're right, Grumps. According to the European Tour website, play is now due to start at 6.30pm GMT.
Good grief! Now it's apparently 7pm!!!

Re: WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship
Just back from the golf course (via the pub) .. looks like they are playing or about to start (I've just switched it on). Guess it's 1pm there now so hopefully they will get Rd1 out of the way today (doubt they'll even start any of the Rd2 matches - so two rounds tomorrow I suppose?
Re: WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship
I would think they would try to start Round 2 if possible. They're grouped the matches together so the winner of match 1 will play the winner of match 2 and so on. They're also going out in 10 minute intervals now so they should able to motor round the course providing Simpson isn't out there for too long

Re: WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship
Think I just heard the announcer say no second round today. Seems strange to me - I would have thought some of the early finishers could get at least half a match played today (or even a few wins if big wins). I hope they've heard good forecasts for tomorrow and can get two rounds in on Friday
Re: WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship
Our first big shock. Of the 10 no hopers not picked in the Fantasy League Russell Henly stands up for the no hopers by beating Charl Schwartzel. Earlier Jaidee's valiant effort wasn't enough as he slipped to an extra holes defeat to Garcia.

Noren also shocked the Fantasy Leaguers as he convincingly beat Dee-Jay.

Bradley also beaten by Marcus Fraser; another one not forecast by the sages in the Fantasy League.
Edit: Westwood falls to Cabrera-Bello so another one slips away.

Holy poopie! For the second time in two years the number 1 seed is put out by number 64. McIlroy is knocked off by Lowry. Well done to Setup for calling Chuckie 3 Sticks beating Woods. So the number 1 and 2 seeds are out after the first round. A great endorsement for the new Nike Wanchor irons. TV viewing figures will be down too and that'll pee the advertisers off.

Re: WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship
Wow that's some strange results to wake up to! Really opened it up I suspect. Good news for Luke and Justin though
Much as I'm not keen on the Tiger/Rory hype I didn't really expect both out in round 1 - Grumps has it right that it will be a disaster for the viewing figures and advertisers

Re: WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship
Went to bed at about 10.30 last night and although Woods was playing absolute poo ( ) at the time, I didn't expect the other results (Westwood, McIlroy, Bradley etc). That will make for some very interesting viewing over the weekend and we might get to see some of the "lesser kown" participants now that Woods & McIlroy have gone.

I'm not too happy about this as i was odds on favorite to take the crown and have a record breaking points tally. This delay to round 1 squashed any hope I had, so think we should start again with this comp based upon round 2. OR am I just a sore loser

I believe the 2nd round is due to start at around 4:20pm our time - the remaining matches are also scheduled to be completed around then
Don't think we have any Sky coverage until 7pm though
Re: WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship
There might be some frost at the moment but that is likely to have burned off by the time play starts. Forecast looks good albeit relatively cool, expect to see a few layers on the players.
Rose and Colsaerts will lead the way as round 2 is scheduled to start at 9:20 local, 11:20 NY and 4:20 SE London/Kent.
Round 1 will resume at 9:30 local, 11:30 NY and 4:30 SE London/Kent.
The winners of the two remaining round 1 matches are likely to go off at 11:20 and 11:40 local time. Molinari or Gonzo are in the later match so they should have plenty of time to finish.

You're still likely to get pumped Doc Blue has almost wrapped up the Sam Snead quarter and LP and Setup are on for a few guaranteed wins too. Nice try though

Re: WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship
Lukey getting gubbed by one of the erstwhile pornstar team - whoda thought that? Justin also got a tough challenge on his hands. Poults flying the flag for Britain (again)
I swear the online leaderboards are rubbish though - I'm sure it have Luke 2 up after 2 for a while (when it was actually 2 down)
Edit: just seen Grumps' post that Justin is out

Re: WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship
Lukey's not putting up much of a fight by the looks of it. He's being absoluted pumped by Piercy, 6 down through 9. But they're probably on the 11th right now... crappy, delayed leaderboards.
If Lukey goes it'll be left to Poulter to fly the flag in the Fantasy League

Anyone would think it was Luke who was the Arsenal fan and not IJP ... Luke is (I think) a Spurs fan - the only bad thing I can find to say about him
Re: WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship
So Lukey gets a dog licence. Poulter's leading the charge for the Fantasy League overall pick. Mary, LP and Grumps still alive in that race.

Re: WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship
The forecast looks like there won't be an overnight frost so there will be an early start tomorrow. Players are going off in there brackets just after 7am local, 9am Poconos and 2pm Chelmsford. They're implementing a two tee start in order to get the third round and the quarterfinals finished in the same day. It will be interesting for some as they may not have played the final holes of the course very often and they will come earlier in their round.

Tee times look like they have been delayed around 45 minutes. Looks a little windy there so expect wrapped up players.

Quarter finals just started with the last third round match still to finish. Kuchar/Garrigus underway. Not sure who is up next as all usual sources are crap.
EDIT: Wait long enough and the tv will show who it will be; Stricker/Poulter. Followed by I presume McDowell/Day and then Simpson/Mahan as Simpson has only just finished.
