Mary_S: Queen of Match Play!

Mary_S held off a determined field to capture the Fantasy League's very first match play event. It was also her very first League win and continued the streak of having a different winner for every League event thus far. venice1, hogie and Doc threatened but were unsuccessful even though they were among the seven who secured perfect scores for the last four rounds. Hunter Mahan won the tournament yet nobody had him selected for winning it all. hogie's choice of Rory McIlroy would have won the league event but he too was ultimately denied at the 17th hole.

Due to the nature of match play combined with Fantasy League rules and point awards, the point differential was maintained throughout the tourney with little movement as well as a too-great point separation in the ranks. Therefore, this GCUK Fantasy League event will not count towards the league point table but will be counted as winning a Fantasy League event as well as receiving a minimum number of votes for Player of the Year honors. The specific point awards for POTY will be published later in the week.

Thanks for all your hard work on this, Venice. It made for interesting viewing as one by one my picks fell away! Odd that no-one picked the winner ....

Except Hogie of course, because he is just too good at this!

Did anyone actually believe the pundits last night, regarding Rory and Lee having a much tougher battle in their semi final, which meant they couldn't take another intense 18-holes? Rubbish me thinks.

I believe Rory wanted it, but tried to be too flash at times and made error after error. he should have brought the match back to all square after watching Mahan run off the green right off the green and down into the dell. All Rory needed was a safe iron into the middle of the green to guarantee taking the hole, but he went for the flag and followed Mahan down the slope ......

Well done to Mary on her great win.

Congrats Mary! It looks like you'll be joining hogie, with both of you having targets pasted on your backs.

We might have picked the winner except for the fact that it was Hunter Mahan! How did that happen?! He was actually scoring well this season but nothing to give us an indication. We might as well blame Coco for this one too.

Thanks oldparwin and all. What's the point of having a Fantasy League if one can't follow an updated progress of the action? It does take a bit more work but I use that time to get away from my piano lessons that I recently began taking. A fairly simple and enjoyable exercise as I'll put on some piece I may want to learn (within 5 years time ) and listen to it while I tabulate the scores. Don't think my teacher would approve if she knew but she's Russian and I would never win that battle anyway. She was disgusted with my scales lesson performance this past Saturday.

No doubt I will be back to my normal place, near the bottom of the table this week - don't seem to fare so well with the strokeplay events!
