RULES
Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:
Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.
Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply.
Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.
Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.
Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.
All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Autumn Session to be determined.
________________________________________________________________________

A) Tiger Woods, Lee Westwood - res Graeme McDowell
B) Frankie Molinari, Paul Lawrie - res Ian Poulter
C) Ross Fisher, David Duval - res Trevor Immelman
AM - Dunbar
Thanks Venice.

Hey Venice,
I'm back! My first picks for a while... thank you for doing my picks for me in my absence, although picking by numbers certainly didn't do me any favours at all.
Here we go...
Cat A:
Lee WESTWOOD
Tiger WOODS (couple of years since I have selected this fella)
(res - Luke DONALD)
Cat B:
Padraig HARRINGTON
Sergio GARCIA
(res - Francesco MOLINARI)
Cat C:
Ross FISHER
Tim CLARK
(res - Raphael JACQUELIN)
Amateur: Alan DUNBAR (doing this by match play could be interesting if the loser ends up finishing higher than the winner!)

Welcome back ray! I hope your honeymoon was a whirlwind. Your picking by numbers was an added entertainment though 2 of the events are in limbo and the winners will be revealed soon. As you point out the potential irony looming for the amateur match play format, it will be interesting to see how it unfolds. Maybe someone should get in touch with both players and put the added pressure on them unless they already follow the GCUK Fantasy League events. I doubt if any other golf fantasy league has them involved in such a competition... and for good reasons. I hope they both make the cut but the current odds must to be prohibitive.

Very smart o_s and Damn. Just when I was ready to make my picks... I fell for your subtle pre-game clever ruse and now have to reconsider my choices.

Trappel goes one down to Dunbar after bogeying the 2nd Hole. All square after 6th Hole. Dunbar takes Holes #8 and #9. Trappel down 2 through 10 holes. Trappel takes the 11th and 12th Holes to move back to all square through 13. Dunbar goes 1 up after the 14th Hole. Trappel takes Holes #15 and #16 to go 1 up and has the lead for the first time in the virtual match. Both men par the 17th and 18th Holes. Trappel is 1 Up going into the next and perhaps final 18 holes.

The first round leaderboard for the GCUK Fantasy League event The 141st Open Championship is a story of the haves and have-nots as seven Leaguers scored and seven Leaguers did not. Doc came out of the gates fast and holds a 60 point edge in this Weighted 3 major by choosing Adam Scott who also has the sole lead on the actual playing field with a -6. Doc also was part of a party of five who chose Category B favorite Paul Lawrie who managed to make the Round 1 Top 5 category by finishing tied for second. LadyPutt made the grade by selecting Nicolas Colsaerts. One competitor, boyhyde, literally came through the back door by selecting Category C loner Michael Hoey who shot the worse score on Day 1 at +9
The fact that only the minimum number of five players made the Round 1 Top 5 category made matters seem grim for those who didn't score. Nobody selected (and can they be blamed?) the other two names on the list: Zach Johnson and Brandt Snedeker. The good news for the zero crowd is that there are several pro's on each of their lists within a couple of strokes from the top but the many who chose Lee Westwood have to be disappointed with his start of +3 which included 4 birdies, 5 bogeys (4 in the last 6 holes), 8 pars and 1 double bogey.
On the amateur side of life, the match play competition between Alan Dunbar and Manuel Trappel is turning into a donnybrook. There were 9 holes that had one or the other connecting for a respective point. Dunbar took the early lead, was tied, took the lead again and then lost the lead to Trappel on the 16th Hole. Trappel remains 1 Up with probably 18 holes remaining in the match as they are both a good 3 or 4 strokes from the eventual cut line. Both players need to make the weekend to extend the match. Three Fantasy Leaguers chose Trappel: Davie, venice1 and LadyPutt. Everyone else chose Dunbar.

Well done Doc - off to a great start!
Am loving the "matchplay" element with Dunbar and Trappel - that was a stroke of genius Venice!

Venice - I picked Nicolas Colsaerts! I was going to pick Paul Lawrie but swapped them as pick and reserve. Should have ignored LordPutt who said "pick Ian Poulter" than I would have had both Colsaerts AND Lawrie
And now Colsaerts is making a complete horlicks of things this morning .....

After all that rethinking OS made you do, you go and forget your amateur pick! Bonus points for helping out a fellow fantasy leaguer
And then he did a 1GG on me and forgot about my choices altogether!!

That's what you get when you mess with the Venice OS.

Dear, dear, dear. That was an honest oversight. As compensation, you have been moved to the head of the 30 point class... and just in front of 1GG. I'm sure he won't mind if you cut in front of him. Make sure you show him your provisional ticket.

Sorry about that Judge. I have edited the day's byline to reflect the accuracy of the day's scoring. Thankfully you were allotted your points or someone would have been chained in the castle's dungeon. But I suspect it may be occupied at the moment by LordPutt and not to mention that Poulter just bogeyed the 6th Hole. Did anyone notice that Lawrie just birdied the 9th?

Bugger, should have went for Harrington over Sergio, would have gotten the all 6 making the cut bonus if I had done so. Dunno what I was thinking based on recent form!

Well Red, with this wavering cut line we're either going to get lucky or fudged and so are a lot of players.
See OPW has got him a good looking cat a group.

Cut has just gone to +3 and if it stays that way then I think I've got all 6 through! Westwood and Fisher right on the bubble though

I want to say the same about my Category A pick of Rose but his recent form hasn't been that bad. I wonder if he and Charl were too close to Sergio on the driving range earlier in the week. Westwood managed to stay 10 paces away from him and appears to have squeaked through barring the last 3 on the course at +3 all going one shot lower for their remaining holes.
And behold: Tom Watson birdies the 18th after bogeying the 17th to make the +3 mark! Do Kaymer, Quiros and Co. hang their heads in shame for not having the competitive or executive resolve of someone born in 1949?

1GrumpyGolfer is the leader of the Fantasy League The Open Championship event after Round 2 by virtually posting a perfect 6 for 6 in selections making the cut. Davie was the only other Leaguer to hit the bull's eye and is currently in 3rd place with 180 points. First round leader Doc fell into the second spot with 210 points. 1GrumpyGolfer nursed his 240 point total by having two of his selections just make the +3 cut line: Ross Fisher and Lee Westwood. They were also popular with Davie as well as many of the other competitors who are equally counting their blessings.
Those who were not quite so fortunate and just missed securing a seat On The Good Ship Lollipop by having only 5 of their 6 selections make the weekend: Redrage took it on the chin when Sergio Garcia bogeyed 2 of his last 4 holes to finish one stroke out of the money at +4. oldshanker got nailed by former Open winner David Duval who needed a 69 but hammered out a 71 on his card. faldono1fan was served 'la pilule empoisonnée' by Raphael Jacquelin when the Frenchman delivered 'le bogey' on 'Le Trou 18.' venice1 got wilted by Justin Rose and his mildew bug infested score of +4. And finally LadyPutt was hung out to dry by Richie Ramsay's 5 bogey windfall to also miss the cut by one stroke.
In the amateur match play contest, 11 Fantasy Leaguers got instant relief and 60 points each when Alan Dunbar eventually put Manuel Trappel out of his misery on the 32nd Hole. After Trappel went 2 Up after the 19th Hole, the Austrian amateur was soundly beaten to a pulp 8 times over the next 13 holes by the Northern Irish amateur who swung like a professional hired to do the 'job' when all other options had been exhausted. Likewise, the weekend is still young for others to do the same.
