The LPGA Championship tournament was a match play affaire only for the inaugural event. The following newspaper article shines some light on the proceedings.

The Palm Beach Post - July 18, 1955

"Hanson Crushes Suggs In Final"

"FT. WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Beverly Hanson's putting pressure crushed Louise Suggs, 4 and 3, Sunday and gave the Indio, Calif., entrant the $1,200 top money that goes with the Ladies' Ft. Wayne Golf Championship.

Miss Suggs, top money winner among the pros with $10,458 this year prior to this match, was 3-up after 10 holes on the Orchard Ridge Country Club course. But the Sea Island, Ga., golfer watched her lead disappear as Miss Hanson played the back nine in 34 - four under par. The match was tied on the 17th.

The $6,000 Ft. Wayne match was an experiment by the LPGA. Miss Hanson and Miss Suggs, as low scorers in two days of medal play, won the right to compete in the 36 hole match-play championship round. Other entrants were paired in 18-hole match play today to decide the division of the remaining prize money."

RULES

Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:

Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.

Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.

Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.

Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.

Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply.
Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.

Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.

Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.

All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Oi, oi, oi Boyhyde all you had to do was ask. I would have handed over the pin should you have asked for it. First Blue and now you giving me a hard time over my picks; I'm starting to think I have a reputation for poor picks.

In my defence I am consistently screwed over by the league administrator. I don't think he's been busy at work at all, I think it's what Blue said that he's been thinking of more and more ways to avoid awarding me points. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they're not out to get you.

Anyway I think Venice will be busy tonight watching and hoping for his Kings to complete the sweep over the Devils and win the Stanley Cup. Here's hoping too so I might earn some bonus points.

Thanks for the support and that just might be the key to earning some bonus points if the Kings take the Cup. Funny, but it still doesn't seem like hockey country or hockey weather in SoCal. Now I have to get back to reviewing the previous GCUK Fantasy League events to make sure you weren't allotted any undue points over the past few months.

Was thinking along the same line. It might be better if the Kings lost Game 5 and return back to Staples Center for a championship clinching victory at home next Monday night. (More likely a recipe for disaster but the Devils are a damned good team regardless.)

The Devils haven't got anything to lose, they must win to keep it alive but I understand your point about winning it in front of your own fans Venice; dangerous game to play though.

I can't remember which team it was in the last couple of years but they won the cup on the road. Shortly after the victory the announcers made some comment about how good the home fans were. Apparently they were staying to show their appreciation even though you could clearly hear the crowd booing. It would be a shame for that to happen to the Kings.

1GrumpyGolfer and hogie have the first round lead in the GCUK Fantasy League LPGA Championship event. Both rode the shirttails of Ryann O'Toole's tie for low score of the round as well as having one other finishing in the Round 1 Top 5 category. Four others: boyhyde, Redrage, Mary_S and Doc are nipping at the leaders' high heels with Mary_S reaching the 60 point total by also having chosen Giulia Sergas who tied for low round.

Nobody chose the other tied for the first round lead, Beatriz Recari, nor was Alison Curdt who had the worse round shooting a +16. The two most popular selections: Yani Tseng and Suzann Pettersen failed to produce any points yet with Ms. Tseng having a bit of work to do to make the cut after having fired an unspectacular +4 with an uncharacteristic six bogies on her card for Round 1.

1GrumpyGolfer got mighty bold and extended his lead after 2 rounds by advancing all six selections to the weekend, thus earning the 60 bonus points. He now has a 75 point lead heading into moving day. Interestingly, only 2 positions changed from Round 1 and that was Mary_S and Doc remaining tied for third spot while boyhyde and Redrage dropped down to fifth.

The biggest sigh of relief came towards the end of Round 2 as the many Fantasy Leaguers who had chosen Yani Tseng, who signed a +7 card through two rounds, had to wait until the last groups trickled in while the cut line of +7 tricked in to guarantee her a paycheck for the week.

Nobody chose the low round of the day by Eun-Hee Ji at -4 nor the worse round of the day by once again… drum roll please… Alison Curdt who managed to beat her previous worse round from the day before by one stroke. 15 European ladies including four from the Isles made the cut: Jodi Ewart and Catriona Matthew at +3, Becky Morgan at +4 and Karen Stupples at +7.

1GrumpyGolfer still retains his lead going into the final round of the LPGA Championship event but is being marked by venice1 who had three selections make the Round 3 Top 10 category and Mary_S who had two make the same category. Everyone else is more than 100 points behind but with a least 20 pro's within five strokes of the lead it's a margin that's within reach.

venice1 and SetupDeterminestheMotion both selected Karrie Webb who shot low round of the day worth an extra 30 points. Nobody selected Dewi Claire Schreefel who shot the worse score for Round 3 but many of the Fantasy Leaguers were able to score by choosing at least one who made the Round 3 Top 10 category with Suzann Pettersen securing a spot on the list for most. Yani Tseng is still held scoreless in the fantasy world after three rounds, a very rare occurrence indeed.

Thanks 1GG. As the saying goes, "There's no place like home." I think Game 6 is going to be a rumble for the ages. Excellent for the sport and a perfect stage and an excellent opportunity to christen a first championship... not to mention a good excuse to have a few more during a week day.
