The GCUK Fantasy League will officially roll out the Summer Session this week with the 15th event of the 2012 Season, the Open de España. This Weighted 1 event will test the lengthy respite for all which followed the Spring Session.

All competitors are starting the Summer Session with zero total points. The Open Championship will conclude the Summer Session. The motto for this week: Get The Rust Out! There will be the long awaited GCUK 2012 Summer Session Schedule posted later this week.

RULES

Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:

Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.

Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.

Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.

Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.

Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply.
Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.

Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.

Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.

All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

It's true what they say: "Rust never sleeps" but still five Fantasy Leaguers managed to secure 10 points each for having one selection make the Round 1 Top 5 category. The rest of the field may still be brushing the dust off and wondering if they partied too much during Spring Break… or maybe not enough. The lack of scoring was mostly due to Matthew Baldwin birdieing his last hole of the day which was good enough for 5th place and knocking off those who were stuck at -2 from attaining a Top 5 finish for Round 1.

Nobody chose former major winner Shaun Micheel who shot low round of the day and nobody chose those posting the worse round of the day: Mikko (I'm ill-and-then-some) and Marcos (I need more than a) Pastor, both of whom shot a sickly +11. Sometimes medicine and God just ain't good enough for what ails ye. Round 2 should produce better results with some tablespoons full of witches brew and some good ol' fashioned soul selling. A little begging wouldn't hurt either.

Hi hogie. Damn is correct. Very sorry you missed the deadline. You won't get a random pick for the week but that is an issue we can put forth for situations like this one or in cases where someone will be away for a week or two.

If it's any consolation this is a Weighted 1 event and with four Weighted 3 events and two Weighted 2 events for this Summer Session you won't lose out too much, especially by the way things are rolling in Spain this week for the other competitors.

I'll put out a post very soon which will allow every competitor to select their 'golden' category numbers to be used when they cannot post the name selections for any specific event.

All thoughts and ideas are encouraged for this issue.

boyhyde and Mary_S have taken the halfway lead going into the clubhouse by sending 5 of 6 into the weekend. Two others: raycastleunited and BlueCoverman were the other to with 5 making the cut. To compound matters, BlueCoverman was successful due to the tried and true method of 'picking by numbers.' The rest of the competitors had to settle for crawling across the cut line with anyone who got them there.

Nobody chose Grégory Bourdy who had the lowest score of the day and likewise, nobody chose the other two unmemorable pro's who struggled in Round 2 to grab the worse score of the day accolades. On the actual course there were three withdrawals from the tourney: Soren Hansen, Stephen Gallacher and Oliver Fisher with the latter sending a number of the fantasy competitors off their course. If things continue along the same lines for Round 3, it will definitely be anyone's ballgame come Sunday morning. Good news indeed.

boyhyde increased his lead after Round 3 by a slim 10 points for selecting Felipe Aguilar who had the worse round of the day. Six other fantasy leaguers also grabbed points for having their picks: Nicolas Colsaerts, Soren Kjeldsen and Thorbjorn Olesen make the Round 3 Top 10 category which is starting to stretch the field going into the last round of action.

For the third day in a row nobody selected the low score for the round shot by Alejandro Cañizares. The first event of the Summer Session is proving to be a tough test for scoring on and off the course. Only 11 pro's are currently under par and that's not much better than the four who have at least 40 points after Round 3: boyhyde, raycastleunited, BlueCoverman and Davie. The good thing is that the rest of the competitors still have a number of picks hanging near the top of the leader board. Buena suerte a todos.
