GolfChatUK Fantasy League 2012 - Preseason Event #2 - The Joburg Open

Following the memorable first event of the GolfChatUK Fantasy League, we now have the second and final tourney of the preseason: the Joburg Open. The official season starts next week so this is a good time to get the bad shots out of the bag.

The scoring has been slightly altered with the top 6 positions allotted more points. This will allow a greater chance for those trailing during the course of the season to recover while applying pressure to those at the top from becoming complacent with their picks.

RULES

Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:

Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.

Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, he will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in his place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.

Holidays / Absences: If you are absent for an event (e.g holidays) you may inform me of the numbers from each category you want e.g players 4 and 8 from cat A and so on.

Failure to submit picks If you do not submit picks, or fail to inform me of your absence, you will be awarded zero points.

Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.

But I'd like to join in with this one as it seems to be replacing the 606v2 league.

Haven't got time to put picks together for the pre-season so if it's ok I'll join in next week when it kicks off.

Certainly, Marky, and welcome. And thanks to all for participating. There's no penalty for missing any or most events during the season except the others will gain ground. Anyone who can't pick for a particular week can always ask that certain numbers for each category count as their picks. Probably useful when going on leave, vacation, won't have internet access or just plain tired to pick that week. For example this week if one were to choose:

Category A: 1 and 5
Category B: 3 and 17
Category C: 1 and 9

they would have chosen:

Category A: Rock and Kingston
Category B: Murray and Bland
Category C: Muller and Cheetham


Also, I hope to have a schedule up by next week to cover the weeks through The Masters tournament. As stated previously, the schedule will be European Tour centric with the obvious premiere events included. The plan for the first year is to have a fantasy event most weeks with several weeks hosting two tournaments.

Another suspended round. Will have the first round results up later in the evening. The Rock starting the season off the way he finished in 2011 when he placed 8th in Dubai. Maybe another bringing it all together in his mid thirties.

Hmmm - the West Country lads, Howeller and Wood have let me down this week. Looks like my boy Lyle will be making the cut though.

It was a very, very slow day for points awarded after Round 1. Jamie Elson and Damien McGrane tied for low score at 63. Each pick is worth 10 points which goes to the following: venice1 for choosing Elson. Nobody else chose Elson and nobody chose McGrane. The points for cuts made as well as low round will be doled out after Round 2 so that should create a bit more movement once the weather cooperates.

The low score for Round 2 was 65 shot by 5 players: Brandon Stone, Anthony Wall, Alastair Forsyth, Steven Ferreira and Espen Kofstad. 5 points each go to oldparwin for picking Forsyth and hogie for Wall. Nobody chose the other three. 5 barely survived the hangman's noose by picking only 1 of 6. The rest didn't fair much better.

And now for the ugly portion of the report with our percentage of picks making the cut sinking to the lower depths of the lake. Five of us barely survived the hangman's noose by picking only 1 of 6. The rest didn't fair much better. Nobody received the 20 point bonus for picking all six to make the cut. Here are the cut and point totals after 2 rounds. It's anyone's ball game.

Did notice that too. Maybe they realized they weren't going to make the cut and decided not to stick around for the weekend. On to the next tournament I guess.

Yes I thought that would have been the reason, but six of them had shot between 71 and 73, which wouldn't exactly have put them out of reach of the cut with a better round the next day. Just seemed a bit odd to me

Certainly Mav. I'm going to propose an early season schedule this next week and will get a better understanding on what help is needed. We will need someone to ultimately decide which weight each tournament should receive. There will be a designated weight number (1 for regular tour stops, 2 for higher regarded events or 3 for the Majors). Once the list is up, perhaps you can validate each tourney's weight. The weight of the tournament determines the points allotted so it requires some thought and knowledge of the tournaments and fields.

I propose the following....

Rule one: all weighting is done retrospectively. Any event where Tiger or Coco do well automatically get a weighting of 1

Rule two is that any event where I do well (even if it counters rule one) should get maximum rating

Rule three: naaaw poofters!

Rule four: there is no rule four

Rule five: see rule three

Rule six: If Tiger or Coco win, then it shouldn't even be weighting one. If this contradicts rule one, get over it

Rule seven: Anyone who picks Marvin Logie Baird gets sent back to 606 or 606v2

Rule eight: Super_realist isn't allowed to pick in any event played at TOC as it clearly isn't golf

Rule nine: Anyone who tweets @TweeterAlliss thinking it is the real Peter Alliss, gets disqualified

Rule ten: Anyone who mentions Peter Alliss gets disqualified (I think I just shot myself in the foot there)

Rule eleven: Nick Faldo is a funny guy. Anyone who disagrees, see rule ten

Rule twelve: That's enough rules

Venice sounds fair to me I can do that for you, if you need any help with the fields I'm happy to apoblige there to.

Davie:

Rule 13: Any event with Logie Baird in automatically becomes double bonus points to everyone that has not picked him and a deduction of all points awarded for the entire season for those that have!

Rule 14: the Wildcard! If John Daly gets picked and doesn't quit the tourney then those that picked him must post a picture of themselves weaing loudmouth clothing!!
