Ryder Cup Fantasy League comp idea thread
In response to LP's question about the Ryder Cup here's some suggestions on how we could play it:
Pick overall result: Euro win / Tie / US win (50 points)
Pick correct match score: 14.5 - 13.5 (50 points)
I'm thinking this way even if someone chooses the losing side they may have picked the right score and get some points. Obviously if you pick the tie you must have 14-14. Similarly if you pick a win you can't choose the tie.
Correct result and score combo: US 14.5 - Euro 13.5 (50 points)
Matches
Little more complicated as these won't all be posted very far in advance.
4 Four ball matches: pick winner and margin
4 foursomes matches: pick winner and margin
12 singles matches: pick winner and margin
Scoring:
Correct team winner in each match: 10 points
Correct margin in each match: 10 points
Correct combo in each match: 10 points
Correct combo each session day 1 or 2 (all 4 matches): 50 points
Correct combo each day (all 8 matches): 100 points
Correct combo singles (all 12 matches): 150 points
Top points scorer: Ian Poulter 50 points
Top points score: 4 points 50 points
Top points scorer and score combo: 50 points
Worst performer (lowest points): Jim Furyk 50 points
Worst performer score: 0 points 50 points
Worst performer scorer and score combo: 50 points
Comments or suggestions are more than welcome.

Re: Ryder Cup Fantasy League comp idea thread
Would be great if we can come up with something Grumps - but as you've pointed out it will be very difficult to come up with something as the pairings are declared at too short notice
I think we could do something along the general lines you've propsed but I think it could be tough to get everyone predicting exact winners when the timescales are too short
Something like overall score, scores for each round of matches (morning and afternoon) and top points scorers for the whole thing (could still do Cat A and B and maybe C also - put 8 players into groups A B and C and have people choose two from each category? One from each team - as to who scores most points overall?)
Can't say I've thought it through completely but just throwing some ideas out
so...
USA/Europe/draw overall - x pts
Correct score - x pts
Score for each round (total of 4 RC points) - x pts
Top scorers in Cat A, B and C after the whole weekend - x pts
Would that work?

Re: Ryder Cup Fantasy League comp idea thread
It is a tricky one. Some players could play as many as five times and others only once so that could make things lopsided in the categories.
Let's see what others come up with.

I know what you mean Grumps - but I'm sure we can all make a guess at who will play 4 or 5 times and who will only play once
So for example you could put Coco, Tiger, Donald, Poults etc in Cat A and Kaymer, Colsaerts, Zach and Bubba (guessing at the lesser lights) in Cat C ... and everyone else in Cat B .. points awarded for top scorers in each category
Personally I would think Kaymer may only get 1 or 2 games so would have him in Cat C but if he won 1 or 2 points he could maybe "win" that category - someone like Woods who is likely to play 4 or 5 matches may need as many as 4 pts to win Cat A

A sweep to see how few times Woods smiles. I guess it will be less than the points he scores.

Well the smiles will be zero, hopefully the points will not be much more

Re: Ryder Cup Fantasy League comp idea thread
I think the fourballs in the morning will be known overnight, but the afternoon foursomes will be declared during the morning's play. Therefore very hard to judge the outcome.
Unless we just go for pot luck & just select win/lose/tie for Game 1, Game 2 etc etc for the afternoon session.
Singles will all be known after play on Saturday.

How about you choose the six players you think will be most sucessful. Not just win, lose or draw but also how many they win or lose by? It's the same tried & tested format basically.

Re: Ryder Cup Fantasy League comp idea thread
Some good ideas coming through. Seems like we can go with:
Pick overall result: Euro win / Tie / US win (20 points)
Pick correct match score: example 14.5 - 13.5 (20 points)
Correct result and score combo: US 14.5 - Euro 13.5 (20 points)
Top points scorer: Ian Poulter (20 points)
Top points score: 4 points (20 points)
Top points scorer and score combo: (20 points)
Worst performer (lowest points): Jim Furyk (20 points)
Worst performer score: 0 points (20 points)
Worst performer scorer and score combo: (20 points)
Splitting each team in groups of 4, based upon OWGR, for Cat A, B and C. Must pick 1 from each category and team, plus reserve, 10 points for each win. 5 points for a half.
Any objections, comments, suggestions?

Sounds good to me Grumps - might be worth (once you've set it up) to post an example entry as you've done above to show the format of picks you want
Re: Ryder Cup Fantasy League comp idea thread
I'll go with that. Whatever we chose, it's going to be a bit complicated, given the format of the competition but that seems the best solution.
