The GCUK Fantasy League is finally back on European soil after a grueling 4 week tour of the U.S. and the first stop is in Sunny Spain, the home of many ET events. The Open de Andalucía is a Weighted 1 event but will prove to be a tough ordeal as the top 3 players in the field are only ranked at #45, #51 and #53. There are the plenty of familiar faces and a fair number of the usual suspects. Following this event the Fantasy League will host 2 tournaments each week for 2 consecutive weeks so it may be a good time to get some rest and take plenty of vitamins.

RULES

Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:

Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.

Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.

Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.

Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.

Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply.
Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.

Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.

Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.

All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

It certainly narrows the selection down. Was a bit of a pain in the arse trying to flick between two webpages on the iPhone and type the selection post at the same time. I think Edfors got into my selection on name recognition and memory of players to choose from. So close but no cigar for bonus points.

Round 2 proved to be quite a tussle for choosing all 6 picks to make the cut but only two emerged unscathed: Davie and Doc. Not only do they receive 20 bonus points each but they also happen to share the lead at the midway point of the tourney. Seven others missed a perfect day by one cut. Most suffered the result of picking either Richard Sterne or Johan Edfors, both of whom missed the cut by one measly stroke. And that's the kind of cruelty that is redeeming about the game of golf and why people keep coming back.

Mary_S and smithersjones joined hands and ran up the hill to receive 10 points each for choosing Edoardo Molinari and his best Round 2 score of +7. That makes it two Italians shooting the best score for Rounds 1 and 2. It may not send anyone scrambling for the record books but it's a good excuse to order a plate of pasta and pour another glass of chianti. With so many League competitors having the bulk of their picks playing the weekend, Round 3 promises to be a moving day worth moving… or else.

Round 3 was a beautiful day on the course in Spain and a beautiful day on the Fantasy leaderboard as all but two competitors scored for having chosen at least one Round 3 Top 10 player. Doc took a couple of strides lead with 3 players in the Top 10 category as well as having the low round of the day with Simon Khan at -6 as did 3 others: Doc, Davie and smithersjones. Nobody chose the worse round of the day by David Dixon's +6.

A number of players shooting -4 or better for a Top 10 score was at an all time high of 17 and the point awards reflected that with a record number of contestants, 14, cashing in on their good fortunes. With 19 players within 4 shots of the lead for Round 4 the point totals will continue to grow on the vines in Southern Sunny Spain.

Hi o_p,

I did give you the points for Price but Jimenez did not qualify to receive the 10 points for Round 3 Top 10. The Round 3 Top 10 category is for those shooting a top 10 score for the day, not how they stand on the leaderboard after Round 3. Jimenez missed the top 10 by one stroke as he shot a -3. The 17 that were in the top 10 category had all shot -4 or lower.

Not really because if one looks at Round 1 Top 5, the same positions exist for Top 5 for the round as well as the Top 5 for the tournament. That tends to make an assumption that the points are awarded for Top 5 on the leaderboard as opposed for the round only. The thinking then carries over to making one believe that the points are awarded for Top 10 on the leaderboard after Round 3. The points are actually awarded for the Top 10 for the round itself. This scoring method allows for competitors to acquire points even though their picks are not high up on the leaderboard during the latter part of the tournament. The thought behind the Round 3 awarded points was to simulate 'moving day' for the 3rd round.
