The GCUK Fantasy League is finally back on European soil after a grueling 4 week tour of the U.S. and the first stop is in Sunny Spain, the home of many ET events. The Open de Andalucía is a Weighted 1 event but will prove to be a tough ordeal as the top 3 players in the field are only ranked at #45, #51 and #53. There are the plenty of familiar faces and a fair number of the usual suspects. Following this event the Fantasy League will host 2 tournaments each week for 2 consecutive weeks so it may be a good time to get some rest and take plenty of vitamins.

RULES

Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:

Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.

Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.

Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.

Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.

Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply.
Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.

Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.

Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.

All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

OK. 3 and 5 it is. Perhaps we can have provisional numbers for everyone. A decent proposal might be to have the provisional numbers good for one week only unless the person requests an extension for a specific number of weeks.

Only six Fantasy Leaguers managed to receive points in Round 1 despite the low scoring by Matteo Manassero and 5 others on the Aloha GC. Matteo scored 20 points each for oldshanker, Meisce and raycastleunited. Peter Lawrie's worse round of +6 earned hogie 10 points and LadyPutt drew 10 points for having Niclas Fasth make the Top 5 for the opening day.

And... drum roll please... 1GrumpyGolfer and Mary_S appealed and finally received points for some guy named Kennedy. The promise of cut points for Round 2 are sorely needed by the rest of the field. If the truth of the matter can be told, GCUK Fantasy League Category 1 events are as tough as it gets for scoring while working for the fewest points awarded. Just the way it should be.

Oh well, I guess it could have been worse. I did have my eye on Edfors but decided that basing picks on a player's fanciability factor was not the way to go.

I would just like to point out Mary, that I did not pick Edfors for that reason! I can't vouch for Grumps though

Venice, while I like the idea that picking numbers at random this week is immediately infinitely more successful than my considered picks from last week, I can't accept points for Matteo's round when he's not one of my 'picks'!
