SetupDetermines broke his duck in the 13th event of the Winter/Spring session by top and tailing the field with his picks. His picks of Patrick Reed, who led from start to finish, and Kiradech Aphibarnrat, who played poorly throughout finishing last with the two worse rounds of the weekend, earned him enough points to knock the high flying BlueCoverman, who also had Patrick Reed, out of first place. GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers had nine other picks in the top 20 places but not too many at the business end of the standings. RedRage had the next best points haul and he was closely followed by Davie, no really, and LadyPutt. 1GrumpyGolfer and Mary_S made up the numbers.
Jonas Blixt shot 66 to tie low round of the week and was the best of the final round by two shots. As mentioned previously Aphibarnrat finished with a 79 for the worse round, last place combo. Matteo Manassero also had 79.
The next event sees us switch to "Europe" for the Trophee Hassan II in Morocco.

Round 3 saw some better scoring and maybe we finally saw how the course should behave. The better scoring saw most GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers score points with RedRage, LadyPutt, and SetupDetermines the highest earners. All of had two picks score points; RedRage and LadyPutt both had two picks in the Top 10 Low Round scores, SetupDetermines had a high achiever and a low achiever; Kiradech Aphibarnrat did manage to take the worst round score in round 3 with a 79. BlueCoverman and Davie each had a pick in the points too and that now means we have a three way tie at the top for the lead.
In other news, you might have heard about this, Tiger Woods shot 66 for the best round of the day and has moved closer to the lead, you may have heard about that too.

There's probably a few players wishing there was a cut so they could get away from this place. Only 3 players broke par in round 2 and only 4 are still under par after two rounds. It's as you were on the leaderboard as the closest anyone came to scoring points was Mary_S and SetupDetermines. They both had picks who were one shot away from the low round score or the worse round. Jamie Donaldson shot 70 for the low round and Dawie van der Walt had 83.

Round 1 was delayed to some nasty looking weather and that had a huge effect on this new monster of a course. Only 14 players broke par after round 1 and remember there's 60 something of the best players in the world here.
LPRPitis struck again as Patrick Reed scored points for some and had others wishing they'd given him a full pick. BlueCoverman and SetupDetermines took full advantage of his fine play. His round 0f 68 was the best of the day. Everybody scored points as the Top 5 Low Round scores mark was 69; five other picks earned points that way. BlueCoverman takes an early lead as he had another pick earn points. The worse round came from Brett Rumford who had an 83.
Round 2 update coming shortly.

The second WGC of the season is a limited, high quality, field. 69 of the best players in the world are taking part including 66 in the top 100 and the top 50 are all here. As such we will revert to our original format of three categories with two picks, plus reserve, from each.
This year's Blue Monster will be a different animal for the players as Donald Trump has employeed Gil Hanse to redesign and revamp Doral.
This is a limited field without a cut event, so cut points will not be available.

RULES
Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:
Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.
Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply. Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.
Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.
Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.
All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Setup - in your excitement you didn't read the blurb! It's TWO picks plus a reserve this week because it's a restricted field.

Re: GolfChatUK Fantasy League 2013–2014 - Winter/Spring Session - Event #13 WGC Cadillac
Regarding recent rule changes:
The number of picks has chopped and changed recently as I'm trying to cater to all tastes. The increased number of picks and categories did seem to be a success for the Joburg which had a huge field to begin with. However 12 picks seemed a little too much for a regular event that had maybe 120-140 guys in it. With the idea that more picks gives you more chances to get players through to the weekend and more points scoring opportunities (some have been successful at this and others not so much) I tried going back to 3 categories but having 3 picks. For a smaller field event like a WGC or the Masters, which would have about 70-100 guys in it, this would still be excessive so I went back to the old regime of 6 picks.
I have learnt, and I'm paraphrasing slightly, I can mostly please some folks and sometimes please everybody but it ain't gonna happen all the time. In hindsight I should have posted, as a reminder, to the thread that it was 6 picks.
Thoughts, comments, suggestions????

Davie's obviously has confidence in his picks this week, as he very kindly reminded me that I hadn't done mine yet!
Let battle commence
Cat A: Rory McIlroy; Sergio Garcia; (Res: Jordan Speith)
Cat B: Jim Furyk; Harris English; (Res: Victor Dubuission)
Cat C: Billy Horschel; Chris Kirk (Res: Gary Woodland)
This week I'm using the formula which my Grandad used when doing his football pools coupon. Admittedly, he never won, but desperate times etc!
Cheers GG.

According to the leaderboard Jason Day did not start. That affects LadyPutt and Davie.
LadyPutt now has Jordan Spieth step up from reserve
Davie now has Rory McIlroy step up from reserve.

Not a chance of a finish I wouldn't have thought GG .. stupid decision to tee off late IMO .. don't the have forecasters in FL?
Re: GolfChatUK Fantasy League 2013–2014 - Winter/Spring Session - Event #13 WGC Cadillac
I think all forecasters are crap; how can you be wrong over half the time and still keep your job?
Our local news station advertises its weather report as being voted most accurate in NE Pennsylvania three years running. How #$#!@ crap are the rest of them then?

But not for long Mary - I was just going to give up and go to bed anyway when they stopped for "bad light" as they say in cricket. Pretty poor show for a supposed premier tournament - couldn't Mr Trump have arranged the weather better?

I agree LadyP - would have expected better from Mr Trump!
Well, we're off again - don't know what the weather forecast is looking like for today, fingers crossed. Sky coverage from 4 o'clock.

There's probably a few players wishing there was a cut so they could get away from this place. Only 3 players broke par in round 2 and
only 4 are still under par after two rounds. It's as you were on the leaderboard as the closest anyone came to scoring points was
Mary_S and SetupDetermines. They both had picks who were one shot away from the low round score or the worse round. Jamie Donaldson
shot 70 for the low round and Dawie van der Walt had 83.

Thanks for the updates GG - a sterling job, as always.
I see that Poulter is raging about Matsuyama damaging the 13th green, and not repairing it. They are paired together today, and IJP says he will be having words with him - might be interesting. (A welcome distraction from my megre points haul!)

My quote came from friends who would play my missus and I against each other. We turned the tables to start winding them up and the conversation went something like this.
Friend: Are you going to see him again?
Missus: Maybe, maybe not
Friend: Maybe, maybe not. Which is it?
