Wow, what a finish!  After looking like no one really wanted to win this thing until Graham DeLaet posted -15.  That seemed to galvanise Kevin Stadler and Bubba Watson who both made fantastic 2 putt birdies (from the 16th hole) on the seventeenth.  Stadler went on the attack to put pressure on Bubba and it worked.  Bubba missed everything on the 18th and slipped into a tie for second with DeLaet.  Bubba's missed putt made all the difference in the GolfChatUK Fantasy League.

Graham DeLaet's final round charge ended in a 65 and a tie for low round score with Charles Howell-III. That gave bonus points to 1GrumpyGolfer and LadyPutt.  LadyPutt doubled up by having Brandt Snedeker collapse to a 79 in the final round; SetupDetermines was also a beneficiary of Snedeker's poor play.

That's the bonus points out of the way, let's talk about finish points.  Davie tripled the number of players he had in the top 20 but they were mid table finishes.  BlueCoverman also had three picks score points and all were in the top 10.  SetupDetermines and LadyPutt each had one points finisher but there was a huge gulf in class between them.  RedRage and 1GrumpyGolfer each had two picks and again there was a difference in calibre.  Mary_S took the weekend off.  When the points were counted up two were tied at the top of the leaderboard and a playoff ensued.  1GrumpyGolfer was left with the smile like Kevin Stadler and BlueCoverman was left bemused like Bubba.

BlueCoverman has struck out for the line but has he made his move too soon?  The air gets pretty thin at the top of the leaderboard and he'll be hoping that his picks continue to move up the standings.  He had three of his five picks shoot low enough to make the Top 10 Low Round scores and one had the lowest round of the tournament so far with a 62.  His closest challenger is 1GrumpyGolfer who had two picks score points including the low round player.  Davie, RedRage, and LadyPutt had one pick score points.  Mary_S and SetupDetermines are treading water at the moment.  Brendan Steele showed his mettle with his stellar 62.  Joe Ogilvie had the worse round with a 77.

Davie has the highest placed pick at the moment but it's his only pick that's in the points; can he challenge BlueCoverman?

For the second day running play did not finish on time in Phoenix.  Darkness prevented four players, including GolfChatUK Fantasy League pick Spencer Levin, from finishing their second round.  In round 2 there were some good comebacks by picks, way to go Ryan Palmer, but there were some calamitous slides by picks too, what the #@$%! Keegan Bradley.

RedRage, BlueCoverman, and LadyPutt missed out on having all six picks go through by the slimmest of margins; RedRage missed by 1 shot with BlueCoverman and LadyPutt missing out by 2 shots.  First round leader Davie had four picks, so did 1GrumpyGolfer.  Barring a spectacular collapse by Spencer Levin over his last two holes SetupDetermines will have 3 picks through, Mary_S has just two picks for weekend play.

Two players shot 64 to tie for low round of the day and they were both picked by Fantasy Leaguers.  Brandt Snedeker earned points for LadyPutt and SetupDetermines.  Ryan Palmer earned points for 1GrumpyGolfer and BlueCoverman.  Keegan Bradley's 80 wasn't bad enough to earn points for the worst round of the day, Joey Snyder-III had an 83.

The leaderboard is very tight after two rounds with lots of bonus points on offer in round 3 will we start to see some separation?

The first round finally finished but there were no surprises for the majority of the field.  Over 88,000 fans packed into TPC Scottsdale to see Y.E. Yang and Bubba Watson take the first round lead.  Watson made one of the seven birdies in the cauldron that is the 16th on his way to a 64.  65 would have made the Top 5 Low Round scores and only Harris English from the GolfChatUK Fantasy League picks achieved that mark.  Davie is looking good after round one and is hoping for a better performance this week.  79 was the worse score posted and Lucas Glover and Paul Trittler accumulated that number.

Round 2 is already underway and the cut line is currently at even par.  Red numbers might be required to see the weekend.

The GolfChatUK Fantasy League stays in the desert but it's one in Arizona this time around as opposed to the Middle East.  The Phoenix open is played over TPC Scottsdale and is home to the noisiest hole in golf; the par 3, 16th.  What started out as lazy, drunk, college kids having fun from the mounding behind the green next to the beer tent is now a full on stadium hole with thousands of seats.  Players emerge from the tunnel onto the tee boxes to huge cheers, they ham it up for the crowd, dish out freebies, play their shot and get cheered or booed if they miss the green.  Caddies get in on the act too by racing each other to be the first to the green.  No alcohol involved at this hole; yeah right!

Phil Mickelson is the headliner being the only player in the top 10 in the OWGR but there are quite a few players from the top 50.  It's coming to crunch time as cut offs for the WGC's are fast approaching and they'll be a few looking to secure their place at the top table.

This is a full field with cut event, so cut points will be available.

RULES

Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:

Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.

Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).

If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.

Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.

Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.

Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply.  Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.

Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.

Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.

All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.
