There was a lot of toing and froing on the leaderboard as the hard conditions made scoring tough. Those that hung in there found themselves moving up the leaderboard as others faltered. Stephen Bowditch managed to hang in there long enough to take the win and earn a trip to the Masters. In the last GolfChatUK Fantasy League event of the Winter/Spring session Mary_S took off fast, got a stitch, hobbled in with just one pick scoring points for her in the end. RedRage had two picks score points and got an added bonus from Ryan Palmer's terrible play. SetupDetermines was looking in good shape as Matt Kuchar was in fine position and form coming into the final round but it wasn't to be and Setup was found wanting more than three picks to score points. LadyPutt also had three picks score points and she was the closest to having an event winner as her pick of Will MacKenzie came up just short, her two other scoring picks and the Ryan Palmer bonus took her close to the top. BlueCoverman had four picks score finish points but there wasn't quite enough quality in his quantity to make a strong charge for the win, Blue was also a recipient of the Palmer bonus. Davie also had four picks score points and the fading Kuchar unseated his ride at the last fence. 1GrumpyGolfer had six picks left and wrung points from five of them, that was enough to overhaul Davie and hold off LadyPutt.
As previously mentioned Ryan Palmer had the worst round of the day with an 82. Brendon Todd shot 68 for the lowest round and Alex Aragon won the battle for last place. No one picked either of Todd or Aragon so bonus points finished with Palmer.
The Spring/Summer session will kick off shortly as we fast approach the first major of the year.

The expanded field got cut to the top 71 players; some missed the new cut line at +4 and some withdrew. Mary_S lost another pick to a withdrawal, 1GrumpyGolfer lost two of his picks to the new cut and Davie also lost a pick. No one else lost any of their picks.
Davie could take comfort that as he said goodbye to Charlie Wi, Matt Kuchar was scoring the round of the tournament so far. Kuchar had a round of 65 and was the best by two shots. SetupDetermines also enjoeyed the spoils of Kuchar's work. Davie also had another pick feature in the Top 10 Low Round scores. 1GrumpyGolfer, BlueCoverman, and RedRage all had two picks in the Top 10 Low scores. LadyPutt had just one pick score points that way. Branden Grace missed the new cut by slumping to an 82. No one picked him.
10 of the remaining 16 picks are in the scoring positions so there's lots to play for tomorrow.

There was late drama at the Valero Texas Open as the cut line moved to +3. Phil Mickelson came to the 18th needing birdie to make that number and he put his second shot into the edge of the creek; he splashed out and then holed the putt to ensure that it was a good decision to play this event for the first time in 20 years. Two other picks made the cut on the number and a total of 82 players are into the third round. With the extended field they'll be an MDF to try to reduce the field down to 70.
1GrumpyGolfer came the closest to the perfect set with only Retief Goosen spoiling his card. BlueCoverman and SetupDetermines each had 7 picks through but BlueCoverman earned two cut bonuses to give him a slight advantage over SetupDetermines. Davie and LadyPutt are still hand in hand as they both have 6 picks for the weekend and a single cut bonus. RedRage has 5 picks left but he did earn a cut bonus. Mary_S fared the worst having a withdrawal before round 2 and now she has to make do with just 4 picks, it's a good job she had points in the bank from the first round.
Chad Collins and Wes Roach both shot 66 to tie for low round of the day. After being featured on PGATour.com Danny Lee followed up his 68 in round 1 with an 83 to miss the cut by a mile, his was also the worse round by 2 shots. No one picked any of these so bonus points are in short supply.

The first round of the Valero Texas Open finished on Friday and it was a quick turnaround for some players as round 2 started hot on the heels of round 1. Andrew Loupe was in the last group and we had to wait until he finished to determine whether he would hold on to become the low round scorer. His round of 67 was the best of the round 1. David von Hoffmann was also a late starter and we needed to wait for him to finish to confirm the worst first round score which ended up being 84. No one picked either of these so bonus points were in short supply.
A lot of big name picks produced big scores, it's been a while since Phil Mickelson has played this event and after a 77 it may be a while before he returns, and some of the lesser lights produced the low scores. 69 or lower was needed to get into the top 5 low round scores and 4 picks managed that. Mary_S has jumped out into the lead as 2 of her picks met that mark. Davie and LadyPutt are in close pursuit as they each had 1 pick shoot 69. Everyone else is waiting to see what round 2 brings.
The cut line is at +1 so some do need to pull their finger out.

The final event of the Winter/Spring session and the business end of Masters qualification and they're are a few players looking to score an invitation to what's seen as the traditional opener to golf season proper. Phil Mickelson is the headliner for this week's tournament and Martin Laird is back to defend his title at TPC San Antonio.
We are back to our regular three Categories but you still need to pick three, plus reserve, from each one. The additional cut bonus points are still on offer this time around. If you get all of your picks through in any category you get a small bonus. Get all 9 picks through and you get an even bigger bonus. It's all way down at the bottom in the scoring section if you are interested.
This is a full field with cut event, so cut points will be available; see above.

RULES
Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 9 players as follows:
Pick 3 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.
Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply. Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.
Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.
Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.
All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

I'm out on the road a bit this week at customer sites and not sure if I'll have access to make proper picks.
I hope I will before the deadline but could I have 2, 4, 6 (and 8 as reserve) just in case I don't get a chance to make proper picks .. too hard to do from a mobile phone! Could be late Wednesday night or early Thursday before first tee time before I get chance to make proper picks. Thanks

As it turns out you had a little extra time this morning LP. Fog has delayed the first tee times and play should be starting right about now.

This pesky fog seems to be hanging around longer than expected, PGATour.com reporting that tee times are delayed by one hour and 45 minutes. Should be off by around 9:15 local time; 2:15 in sunny England

Sunny - yes but bloody freezing and bound to be when it's time to go home from work! Think I'd rather be in hot and steamy Malaysia for the Eurasia Cup where Europe thrashed Asia 5-0 in the opening fourballs

It was postponed last year in March because of snow and rearranged for a month later. Think we are going to be ok this time!

Unsurprisingly they didn't finish round 1 today. The last groups have played 10 holes and will resume tomorrow morning, not sure when, weather permitting.
LadyPutt and Davie looking good at the moment for Top 5 Low Round scores points.

There are 18 players left to complete their first round and the low round and worst round are up for grabs as round 1 comes to a finish.

Oh so close ...... very strange leaderboard - I found the TV coverage pretty dire so hardly watched any of it but I'm glad the early LPRPitis went away. Are we doing the Shell Houston and then the Master or having a week off?

I can be persuaded one way or the other LP; if folks want a final warm up before the Masters then we can kick off the next session this week or we can wait until the Masters.
When I looked for events for the Winter/Spring session the European Tour only went as far as the end of March; I know they have a full calendar now but haven't looked too carefully. We'll need to put the schedule together for the other two sessions and I'm happy to take suggestions for the order of events.

I don't mind if people want to "warm up" with the Shell Houston. The ET event is a co-sanctioned ET/Challenge Tour event in Spain (Sotogrande) which isn't even being shown on Sky so if we're going to do anything, then it will have to be Houston I suppose.

Isn't there a Ladies major this week?
Re: GolfChatUK Fantasy League 2013–2014 - Winter/Spring Session - Event #16 Texas Open
Yes Davie, there is. It's the Kraft Nabisco (cheese and biscuits) at Mission Hills. We could do that - or are you chaps not up to speed with the laydees?

I'm not up to speed to post an LPGA event and I've already got a lot of the supporting info needed for Houston done.
