I'll be back; with a whimper by the look of it. The failure to pick Sergio Garcia cost Davie and whilst he got all six picks through he still finished in the same place as last week; a catastrophic slide down the leaderboard. There was no need for a doctor to be called this week as BlueCoverman held off RedRage and a charging 1GrumpyGolfer.
The majority of GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers managed a 1-5 finish thanks to Garcia and Coetzee however Mary_S and 1GrumpyGolfer had a 1-3 finish thanks to Cabrera Bello. SetupDetermines just had the winner and Davie's slide was down to a 3-16 finish.
Sergio Garcia charged through the field thanks to a low round of 65 and sat and waited, and waited, and waited until Mikko Ilonen eventually tied him on -16. It took three more holes and Garcia did what he couldn't do in regulation everytime by making birdie, Ilonen couldn't match him the last time around and it was all over. Garcia's round gave bonus points to everyone bar Davie. Magnus A Carlsson and Alejandro Canizares also shot 65.
SetupDetermines was looking to double up at the bottom of the leaderboard too; Tommy Fleetwood shot 75 for one of the worse rounds of the day and was just pipped to last place by one shot. Francois Calmels also shot 75 and Lee Slattery finished last.
Next week we'll still be in the desert but will it be the last event in the European Tour's Desert Swing or will it be the desert in Arizona?

I'll be back. No, it's not Terminator 7, or whatever it's up to now, it was Davie's prediction from last week and it's looking pretty ominous now as he forces his way into a tie for the lead with the spluttering BlueCoverman.
Moving day provided a bonanza of points for the GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers and not all were awarded for the right reasons. Adrien Saddier shot an impressive 64, including 7 3s in a row at one point, which was by far the best round of the day. The closest score to that was 68 and 69 made the Top 10 Low Round scores and several picks were among the points. The GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers averaged two picks in the points but there's always some outliers; Davie had three and Mary_S could only manage one. The worse round was a 78 from Jason Dufner and Davie, RedRage, and SetupDetermines picked up another 10 points.
There's a lot to play for on the final day; will LadyPutt make it a three-peat, will RedRage record his first win of the season, or will BlueCoverman not need a hiemlich this time around.

What's this? LadyPutt's not in the lead? Is her luck running out?
For the time this season GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers managed to get all six picks through to the weekend and earn valuable cut bonuses. Both BlueCoverman and Davie performed this feat and have sprung to the top of the leaderboard. LadyPutt, RedRage, SetupDetermines all lost one pick by the narrowest of margins, a final hole birdie would have made all the difference to RedRage and SetupDetermines. Mary_S and 1GrumpyGolfer each lost two picks but softening the blow for them was a fine round by Rafa Cabrera Bello.
Cabrera Bello shot 65 to tie for lowest round of the day with Johan Carlsson. Amateur Ali Al-Shahrani slumped to an 84 and the worse round.

She's only gone and done it again. LP's lucky numbers come up again for the third event in a row as one of her "picks" shot the lowest round of the day. George Coetzee's 64 also scored points for BlueCoverman and RedRage. A score of 66 or better made the Top 5 Low Round scores and two other GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers got among the points.
Low round was from Coetzee; the worst rounds came from Peter Lawrie and Thomas Levet, both shot 80.

The Fantasy Leaguers have chosen and the Qatar Masters was picked as event number 7. The second leg of the desert swing sees the tour make a quick stop in Qatar. Chris Wood won this event in spectacular fashion last year and is back to defend his title. He's joined by a number of other former champions.
To be fair to other participants LadyPutt will not be allowed to pick by numbers this time around and Davie gets a 20 point headstart
This is a full field with cut event, so cut points will be available.

Looks like we have to give in to LPs earlier request to pick by numbers. I'll post her actual picks in the morning.
I might have to resort to that too considering I'm not home yet despite setting out over 4 hours ago.

Surely our League Judge can't win three on the trot picking by numbers?...

Re: GolfChatUK Fantasy League 2013–2014 - Winter/Spring Session - Event #07 Qatar Masters
We had some snow and very cold temperatures. Speeds limits on the motorways were reduced to 35mph. I was 4 hours on the bus in total but left early to make sure I got that particular bus and was probably 5 hours door to door. It seems like my bus driver picked the best route home; someone caught a bus 20 minutes before me and they didn't get off it for nearly 6 hours! Should be a much quicker journey this morning as the roads will be plowed and gritted.
Cold temperatures are continuing for well over a week. It was -1f, nearly -20C, when I left out this morning. We're not going to be close to freezing until the weekend and I don't know the next time we'll be above it; feels like it could be March.

Hello lads (and Mary - sorry) - I'm back! I did say at the start that if I wasn't back in time to do my picks this week could Grumps use the same numbers. I didn't realise it was a Wednesday start so he's done me a favour - and a good one by the looks of it. I promise to do my own picks next week (but I might stick with the same numbers all season to see how it goes )

One group are still to finish round 1 after play was initially delayed and then later suspended. The group is unlikely to affect the Top 5 Low round scores so this is an unofficial leaderboard at this time:

She's only gone and done it again. LP's lucky numbers come up again for the third event in a row as one of her "picks" shot the lowest round of the day. George Coetzee's 64 also scored points for BlueCoverman and RedRage. A score of 66 or better made the Top 5 Low Round scores and two other GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers got among the points.
Low round was from Coetzee; the worst rounds came from Peter Lawrie and Thomas Levet, both shot 80.

Friday is moving day and the chance for more bonus points; can BlueCoverman hold on?

Apart from the fantasy league, I really hope it IS Oleson's time. I was very impressed with him 12-18 months ago and he won me a few nice bets with the bookies. He got the deal with Nike and was outshining 9 chins and Coco then I think he was involved in some sort of car accident(?) .. obviously not very serious but it seemed to halt his progress.

Oleson T3rd finish, did you have a wager Davie?
Seems like a decent lad, hopefully he'll spring on from this.

Now that is what I call a MAJOR fail! Everyone had Sergio except me?? All six picks making the cut (only Blue equalled that) and I still finish last? I need to go on holiday for a few weeks and pick by numbers!
At least I've got a nice little e/w bet on Jordan Spieth in the Farmers tournament. Now watch him crash and burn!

Normal service has been resumed - and without me doing my own picks. Let's see what this week brings.

From first to last in the final round is a pretty spectacular achievement Davie. It therefore gives me great pleasure to officially hand the baton of fantasy league choker over to you!
