A storming final round of 63 from Jimmy Walker won him the Sony Open in Hawaii and saw LadyPutt upgraded to Queen. Walker's 63 was also the round of the day and those points were just the icing on cake. She leapfrogged to the top of the pile from midtable and pipped 1GrumpyGolfer who was looking to complete a Hawaiian double. BlueCoverman and RedRage posted three top 10 finishers but they just trod water in midtable. Davie and Mary_S each had two picks score points whilst SetupDetermines matched two top 10 finishers and one of the last place finishers in Tommy Gainey. Gainey's final hole bogey saw him drop into a tie for last place with Derek Tolan who also had the poorest round of the day with a 76.
Next week the GolfChatUK Fantasy League switches to the European Tour and to the Middle East for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

Almost a quarter of the Sony Open field made the the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Top 10 Low Round scores but only three picks were among them. Those who picked Zach Johnson scored points, those who didn't pick him missed out entirely. Three Fantasy Leaguers doubled up on Johnson by adding either Charles Howell-III or Chris Kirk. The leaderboard is stretching a little after the third round. BlueCoverman and RedRage have now become the closest to chasers 1GrumpyGolfer as LadyPutt slips back towards the middle of the pack.
As 79 players made the third round an MDF was always in the works and those who didn't finish under par were packing their bags. Two picks lived dangerously but ultimately squeaked into the final round on the number. The worse round was only 73; Joe Durant and Eric Dugas shot that and packed their bags. In a blast from the past John Daly eventually repaid a tournament director by shooting 64 and moving into the top 20. Will Wilcox also shot 64 but no one picked any of the high/low players.
Six picks are in the top 20 at the moment and several are close to it. There's lots to play for in the final round as we say aloha to Hawaii.

It's often said that the first cut is the deepest and at the Sony Open the withdrawal of course specialist Tim Clark cut deeply into four GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers. No one really came close to getting all six picks through to the third round. Four picks was the best and five GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers managed that. LadyPutt's pick by numbers got three picks through and Davie could only manage two picks.
We shouldn't feel too bad for Davie as one of his still standing picks, Marc Leishman, shot 64 for a share of round of the day. Two other pros shot 64; Paul Goydos and Hudson Swafford who you would think would be more likely to be found on a map rather than a golf course. At the other end of the leaderboard Kirk Nelson slumped to an 80.
All that has bunched the Fantasy League leaderboard considerably and 10 points separates top from bottom with LadyPutt sandwiched in the middle.

A mixed bag of scoring from the GolfChatUK Fantasy League picks saw just over half of the picks shoot under par in round one of the Sony Open in Hawaii. This mixed scoring definitely contributed to the low first round scoring of the GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers. Only two picks made it into the Top 5 Low Round Scores by shooting less than 67; Jimmy Walker had a 66 and Chris Kirk had a 64. This earned points for LadyPutt and 1GrumpyGolfer.
The low round was actually 63 and Sang-Moon Bae can be pretty pleased with his day's work. The worse round came not from one of BlueCoverman's picks although they did try hard but Jared Sawada who had a 78.
With the field tightly packed there could be the possibility of a further cut after round 3 so there's definitely some picks who need to get a move on.

The first full field, with cut, event of 2014 sees us island hop in Hawaii for the Sony Open.
Russell Henley is back to defend his record setting title performance from last year with a few others from the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. For some reason the PGA Tour has seen fit to invite two Chinese amateurs in Tianlang Guan and Yanwei Liu. The Sony Open is a traditional opener for the Web.com Tour graduates but with the recent changes it won't be the first time some of the graduates are on tour this season. 24 or the 25 graduates are here so please do not adjust your sets if you don't recognise some of the names this week.
The Waialae Country Club measures out at just over 7000 yards and is a par 70. The course record is held by David Toms at 61, although it is worth noting that Davis Love III had a 60 before the course was renovated. The scoring record was set last year by Russell Henley, he finished at -24 for 256 total.
This is a full field with cut event, so cut points will be available.

I was just about to post that Hideki had pulled out when I saw you had updated your picks Setup. Everyone else's picks have starting tee times.
First tee times are at 7:00am in Hawaii, Noon in PA, and 5:00pm in the UK. That leaves a few hours for late changes and other entrants

A good effort from Sean, very unlucky to just miss out on scoring any points in the first round. Here's hoping that slightly worse play today will see that rectified in the second round...

Not bad for a few blind picks! Hello from a sunny and occasionally rainy Barbados. Wasn't sure if I'd be able to operate my new "toy" - a tablet. But I'm sitting here in the bar with a vodka and tonic in hand talking to you lot. Happy days!

Hi LP good to hear from you, even if it does make us all extremely jealous!
Assume that you are staying somewhere beautifully exquisite on the west coast, not tempted to have a few holes at Sandy Lane then?

Staying next door to Sandy Lane but golf is just too expensive. Been on a catamaran cruise today and for a bit sunburnt. Just have to have more alcohol to help me sleep!

I think LP is right:- More vodka as long as its good vodka, like Belvedere or Grey Goose.

Not bad for a few blind picks! Hello from a sunny and occasionally rainy Barbados. Wasn't sure if I'd be able to operate my new "toy" - a tablet. But I'm sitting here in the bar with a vodka and tonic in hand talking to you lot. Happy days!
