WGC Accenture Matchplay
First topic message reminder :
Starting around 2:30 UK time today - TV coverage starts at 5pm on Sky
My tip for an outside bet - Robert Rock (let's see him crash and burn now!)

Re: WGC Accenture Matchplay
One heck of a putt by Stricker on 18 to put steal the victory from Oosty.

Re: WGC Accenture Matchplay
I was amazed when they said we would not see the early stages of the McIlroy v Hansen match, as the broadcasting company did not have cameras on these holes. Seemed rather strange, surely for an event of this stature you would have every hole covered?
Also, what a farce at the end of that match - we didn't even see McIlroy's shot out of the bunker, so only knew that he'd won when Anders shook his hand.
Hope that we get good coverage of the battle of the Scots today!

Re: WGC Accenture Matchplay
TV coverage has been really bad (unless you want to watch the sainted Tiger). Even David Livingstone was forced to apologise last night. And then, if they do show matches, then they show the shots out of sequence so you've no ides what's going on. I do feel a bit sorry for the Sky guys because they are having to take the woeful US feeds and do their best with it.
I wonder what US residents like Venice and 1GG make of it - are they used to the p*** poor coverage and so don't notice or does it wind them up, too?

Anyone else noticed that we're getting adverts after almost every shot with this coverage, and I'm watching more shots of the desert than actual golf shots. Don't think Venice and the US based boys get the same coverage as us??

LP. I don't tend to watch much golf unless the missus is out or away. Most if the time when i do have it in it's in the background as opposed to me giving it my undivided attentiion. That's the excuse I'm going with for my p*** poor showings in the fantasy leagues. I did watch about 30-40 minutes last night of the repeated coverage before I fell asleep but not sure how much I was really taking in.

1GG - what a sacrifice. Hope you've got your halo nicely polished.
Last night even the Sky guys seemed a bit bemused by the coverage they were having to commentate on.

Re: WGC Accenture Matchplay
Today's matches starting just before 6pm UK time today (TV coverage from 7pm I think)
Hanson/Snedeker
Wilson/Johnson
McIlroy/Jiminez
Senden/Bae
Kaymer/Kuchar
Stricker/Mahan
Westwood/Watney
Laird/Lawrie
At best I'll get 7 of the 8 through - at worst it will only be 3!
Laird/Lawrie looks possibly the most interesting match along with Westy/Watney. Dont think anyone would have picked Senden/Bae though!

At best I'll get 6 through - at worst 4 if both McIlroy and Johnson lose.
I certainly didn't pick Senden or Bae, I wonder if anybody has a chance of getting all 8 through?

BCM. Hogie does, minimum 5 wins, possible 8. If he does it's game over for everyone else.
I can get 4 through, maybe 7

So despite all the talk of European golf's resurgence and the lack of American talent, this could turn into a Yankfest over the weekend, with only Jimenez/McIlroy match guaranteeing a European in the next round. Today's potential winners...
Snedeker
Johnson
McIlroy
Senden
Kuchar
Stricker
Watney
Laird (almost American)

Ooh statistics. Can say whatever you want them to say.
BCM it is only once a tournament that Venice tries to trick me. I'm good for the rest of this comp.

Must think of new ploys to deceive 1GG:
1 WITCH. Thrice the brinded cat hath mew'd at 1GG.
2 WITCH. Thrice and once, the hedge-pig whin'd for 1GG.
3 WITCH. Harpier cries: 1GG! —'tis time! 'tis time!
1 WITCH. Round about the caldron go for 18 holes;
In the links' poison'd entrails throw.—
1GG the Toad, that under cold stone 5 iron,
Days and nights has thirty-one putts;
Swelter'd bogey'd venom sleeping got,
1GG! Boil thou first i' the charmed pot bunker!
Apologies to Bill S.

I'm actually watching the Sky feeds during the weekdays as I'm at work and get streaming via the firstrowsports.eu site. The U.S. golf broadcasts have been a nightmare for over a decade now and all the shouting at the box became redundant so it's drink more beer and laugh while at home during the weekends.

Anything from today was going to be a bonus for Lee. Hoping he beats the pet tomorrow. It's nothing against Laird, it's just that I didn't pick him.
Thanks for the spell from Hogwarts Venice. Sounds like you're trying to inflict short and crooked as opposed to long and straight.

So 5 of 8 for me. Could have all 4 semi finalists or just 1. Would be good to see Coco take on Westy in the semi.

Re: WGC Accenture Matchplay
Both in the fairway, all square through eight, back and forth see-saw already. What's not to like except for a number of plays by both but the match is certainly up in the air and we couldn't ask for more than that with 10 or so greens remaining.

There's only been 1 half in the match. Looks to continue on 9 with Coco to take the lead for the first time.

Well 1GG. It appears we can keep the lines running through two sites at once. That has to be some sort of record or feat.

Thought Coco messed the pitch up, obviously not enough HD on my tv. Good putt from Westwood.

I think Lee will have a charge in the last few holes. Rory's moving into another sphere.

@ChrisGG - no you're not the only one with an irrational dislike
I am totally happy to admit to his skills and fantastic ball striking. I just can't take to him. I should be ashamed of myself for rooting for Mahan but I don't want to see Coco get the #1 yet

What a let-down. I ended up falling asleep (watched the end of it in bed) with LordPutt waking me up to tell me the sad news. Seemed Lee and Rory just didn't have the desire to win.

I didn't see their semi but it strikes me that the did have the desire to beat one another and put all of their efforts into that match. Come the afternoon they didn't have enough left in the tank (although Westy nearly rallied.)

Re: WGC Accenture Matchplay
Oh come on - these men are multi-millionaire sportsmen and should be well fit enough, mentally and physically, to be able to play 36 holes of highly competitive golf in a day. It was exactly the same for the two US players but they managed to keep their game together and deserved to win.smithersjones wrote:LadyPutt wrote:What a let-down.
