Football talking points
First topic message reminder :
Rather than hijack the "which team do you support" thread where some of these are being talked about...
Some of the events of the weekend that are getting people talking
1) Mario Balotelli: plenty to say about him in general but specifically the alleged stamp on Scott Parker and his subsequent charge by the FA
2) Lescott's elbow on Kaboul(?) - FA say no charge to answer
3) Conspiracy theories in general about Man City!
4) Wenger's decision to take Chamberlain off and put Arshavin on - and Van Persie's reaction
5) Peter Crouch and the "eye-gouge"
6) Harry Redknapp and the tax-dodging allegations and court case
Discuss!

Re: Football talking points
Maybe it was "Just because you're losing, just because you're losing"
So what happened on Saturday Blue; two nil to the Arsenal and then you start acting like the Arsenal defence?

More like "just because you're losing keep your on"!
It was all going so well, 2-0 up with 11 minutes to play, lucky not to lose 3-2 in the end...

4-0 and they messed it up.
Hope you were watching this tonight Davie. What a great way to finish your birthday off with a comeback win after your win in the course earlier. Happy birthday, mate

Porous, I believe is the word for it. Must have been brilliant for the neutral.

Re: Football talking points
Funny at full time when a couple of the Arsenal players thought they had won on away goals and threw their shirts to the fans...and then had to ask for them back when realising there was extra time!

I heard about that too Hope they went back to the fans that returned the shirts to them.

Re: Football talking points
It was indeed a great way to finish the day Grumps. At 4-0 down and another year under my belt it felt like the world was against me! 7-5 finish is something out of a hollywood movie!
Re: Football talking points
Apparently it is the first time ever that Arsenal have conceded five goals and still won the match...not surprising really, 7-5 sounds more like a Sunday morning game!

I have tried to erase those dreaded words from my memory bank Grumps, something to do with the amount of times I have seen England lose by them

Re: Football talking points
Tell me about it Grumps, glad I didn't get a ticket for the game at this rate. Beginning to regret giving 2 to 1 odds for anything other than a Col U win to anyone who wanted it at the golf club earlier. Still the second half to come to save my embarrassment and my wallet...

Well it's back to the main business of the league tonight now that we have got all that Cup nonsense out of the way. Notts County and the worlds least favourite footballer Lee Hughes to look forward to later...

Southend United are our visitors this evening. Having turned into a softie, I will be getting the score updates online rather than paying £16 to freeze on the terraces.

Re: Football talking points
Blue - LOL, don't worry, I've done my fair share of braving the elements to support the team! Now it's a 70 mile round trip for a home game, and for several years the majority of the team seemed to be journeymen who were only there for the pay cheque. These days I only tend to go when we've got comp tickets.
Did the Arsenal players not turn up tonight then?

That's a very poor excuse Mary and even worse you only went and lost to our Essex rivals!
Sanchez Watts was inconsiderate enough to get himself injured and missed the game, and yes his absence was notable!

Re: Football talking points
Discussion in these parts is which of the Scottish managers will be the first to get booted out of Bristol. Both teams in danger of relegation at the moment.
Anybody else watch the Celtic v Barcelona match last night? Great win for Celtic - stats showed that they only had 16% of possesion throughout the game. The goalie played a blinder - I'm sure he picked up a lot of those skills during his 4 match loan spell with Rovers a few years ago.

Re: Football talking points
Nice to see Celtic hang on there. I took out a 10-1 in play double on Celtic and Chelsea (when Celtic were 1-0 and Chelsea 1-1) - made for an exciting finish!
Re: Football talking points
Nice work Davie! From what I saw on Twitter, I think a few people picked up money on Celtic last night!

Only 10/1, I thought you would have got a better price than that ?? Celtic were 10/1 to win, before the game started.
But hey-ho a wins a win. Well done Davie.
Young Watt tooks his goal so very well..

Re: Football talking points
yeah on reflection they were a bit stingy given the scores at the time of the bet - but it was something like 17/5 for Celtic and 6/4 for Chelsea
Re: Football talking points
Two more players in on loan for Col U today...goalkeeper John Sullivan from Charlton and centre back Josh Thompson from Portsmouth.
Looks like we could be going for a full set of 11 on loan...

I can't think of a better goal than Ibrahimovic's stunning volley against us last night.
Anybody got a favourite or can think of a better goal than that? (Anyone who suggests Maradona's against us in 86 will receive a severe kick to the testicles)

Re: Football talking points
What are peoples views on the plight of QPR under Hughes. Warnock romped the championship to get them promoted, and he didn't really get the backing of the owners at the time. These blokes then sold the club in the close season to Fernandes, but it only left Warnock with a few days to do a supermarket sweep to buy whatever players were still left. He did ok in the prem, as he was trying to get his make-shift team working, but was sacked and Hughes brought in. Hughes was lucky to keep them up and I reckon if Warnock was still in post they wouldn't be in the relegation zone. Hughes then goes out and buys a whole new team this summer, spending a bomb, but is still bottom and far from safe. Did Fernandes act hastily by getting rid of Warnock. Hughes has the gall to blame the previous management???

Re: Football talking points
I did watch that documentary about the last couple of seasons before wining promotion. Whether there was selective editing or not at times the owners and their advisors were made to look like absolute idiots.
I wonder whether some of the off field stuff has had a bigger effect on them. Barton and Ferdinand for example.

Re: Football talking points
Anyone read about Rob Earnshaw talking about how 'scary' it is playing football in Tel Aviv at the moment with over 100 rockets and missiles targeted at the city so far.
Rob is out there after Cardiff loaned him out until the end of the season. Come to think of it though, anyone have the delightful experience of being in the away end at Ninian Park?...not much different to what Rob is going through now!

Re: Football talking points
Probably not what he was hoping for when he agreed to that loan deal
I remember being locked the away end in after a match at Ninian Park, with the Cardiff cretins tryng to force their way in from outside. Not one to bear a grudge though, a couple of years later I did give evidence in Court for a Cardiff fan who was wrongly arrested at Twerton Park.
Looking forward to the Celtic game this evening.
