Golf de Chamonix Empty Golf de Chamonix

Post by Mercurio Sat May 12, 2012 6:53 pm

I've just spent a week in Chamonix-Mont Blanc (walking holiday with the dogs) and I came across Chamonix Golf Club. We only walked past it, but it looked in fantastic shape and, as you would expect, it has some of the finest views of any golf course in the world.

Has anyone on here played there?

Merc

I have spent many, many holidays in the Chamonix area and always had a great time. The course looks to be stunning, but like you I was walking etc, so wasn't in the crowd of golf players. The last time I checked though, it was an exorbitant amount to play it, as it carers for the well heeled Italians, Swiss and French. There are however some great tracks in the Alpine area, which have stunning views and all within easy reach. Annecy and Thones are 2 that springs to mind, plus there's one just down the bottom of the same valley as Chamonix too, that has views of Mont Blanc as a backdrop

Cheers, Doc.

I didn't think the prices were that bad - up to €70, at this time of year, but cheaper for a twilight.

Here's a photo I took whilst walking past: https://2img.net/h/oi49.tinypic.com/2624ps2.jpg

Can't beat the scenery merc, and the prices have significantly fallen since I was last looking. The next time i'm over there I'll deffo' be taking the clubs and even if you have a nightmare you can't get upset in that setting.

I seem to remember that the clubhouse which was a rather large chalet type building, had grass covering the roof so that it just melts into the backdrop.

That is surprising, because it doesn't look at all hilly when you walk past. It's in the bottom of a valley, so it wouldn't be strange for it to be relatively flat.

Doc - Yeah, that's the clubhouse - a roof like a 70s porn star's lady-garden.

Merc, yes its in a valley, but the valley does slope downhill fairly steeply and some of the holes are actually up the side of Mt Brevent, which is the opposite side of the valley to the Agile Du Midi and Mt Blanc.
