Golf ethics Empty Golf ethics

Post by LadyPutt Tue Mar 27, 2012 8:38 pm

I was sent this email by a friend - love it!

Here is a golf ethics question for you.

What if you were playing in the club championship tournament finals and the match was halved at the end of 17 holes.

You had the honor and hit your ball a decent 250 yards down the middle of the fairway, leaving a simple six iron to the pin. Your opponent then hits his ball, lofting it deep into the woods to the right of the fairway.

Being the golfing gentleman that you are, you help your opponent look for his ball. Just before the permitted five minute search period ends, your opponent says: "Go ahead and hit your second shot and if I don't find it in time, I'll concede the match."

You hit your ball, landing it on the green, stopping about 10 feet from the pin.

About the time your ball comes to rest, you hear your opponent exclaim from deep in the woods: "I found it!". The second sound you hear is a click, the sound of a club striking a ball and the ball comes sailing out of the woods and lands on the green, stopping no more than six inches from the hole.

Now here is the ethical dilemma:

Do you pull the cheating b*****d’s ball out of your pocket and confront him with it or do you keep your mouth shut.

lol!

Cool Nice one Golf ethics 1927768590

I think I'd say that I'd carry on with him looking as 2 eyes are better than 1, and besides if he doesn't find it, it will save me walking to the hole to get my ball Golf ethics 3461234324

I'll take the hidden option 3.

Tell him that five minutes had passed before he identified that the ball had been found thus meaning that he was unable to proceed with that one and had to return to the tee.

I see since LP has posted this earlier, someone on the dark side has now gone and posted it word for word too.. Very interesting.

FWIW I'd say no I'll help you till the 5minutes is up after all 2 pairs of eyes are better than one. Kindly inform them 5 mins has passed hard luck better go back and play another one! On his way back I'd clean his ball, pop it in my bag as a token of how I won Innocent

As LP said she got it by email I suppose we should give the benefit of the doubt that someone else also got it by email. Interesting that the post on the darkside was by a username that doesn't seem to have much previous history there though

Interesting in the same way that a newly appointed admin on the other side (someone who as far as I remember only really posted on the Boxing forum) started a thread on the golf section there.

The Hobonator must be desperate to get extra posts in the golf section though I see their much vaunted V2journal site still doesn't have any golf content

Perhaps our "double dippers" should investigate further Wink

I don't venture over to the Darkside very often these days Golf ethics 1067764964

I've noticed there are a few new names appearing but it's by no means as friendly over there as it is here Hug
