GolfChatUK Fantasy League 2012 Event #01

Here we go with the inaugural GolfChatUK Fantasy League event: The Volvo Golf Champions. Since it is a limited field and there will be no cut line, there will be no points allotted for picks making the cut. A new category has been added for points awarded to honor those that shoot the worse score of each round. There will be a post within the next few days presenting a schedule of fantasy league events through The Masters.

Everyone please notify others of changes in field before tournament starts and invalid or incomplete picks from participants.

RULES

Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:

Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.

Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.

Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply.
Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.

Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.

Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.

All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Welcome boyhyde and good luck! And thanks to all for participating in the very first GolfChat UK Fantasy League event. It's going to be a full season with plenty of weeks to hit and miss but still remain in contention through the season's final event: the DP World Championship in Dubai, November 22- 25.

And without a doubt, the person who takes the season title will have to be rewarded in kind. I will begin the prize fund by offering a golf hat and shirt from a local Southern California country club golf course (club yet to be decided). Others may also increase the prize fund if they'd like. Maybe there are some here that can twist arms at their local clubs to also contribute. All methods of coercion for the cause are condoned.

Any and all suggestions to improve our league are welcome. Of course they will have to undergo the scrutiny of Maverick so bring your "A" game when making your proposals.

Hi Venice and everyone

Sorry to miss this first event of the season. I fully intended logging onto the laptop when got back from holiday in the early hours of yesterday (tanned and jet lagged) but I discovered that my central heating boiler had decided to break down while I was away and the house was FREEZING cold. By the time I'd located my plumber and persuaded him it was a dire emergency and he had to come AT ONCE and then got into bed fully clothed with the electric blanket on to wait for him (the only place in the house I could get warm), all thoughts of golf, and everything else, had gone out of my mind.

I'll be raring to go next week.

I didn't see your picks at all and they aren't posted here. But I have a notion as to what may have occurred as I have done the same thing: when one is writing a reply and another has posted in the mean time, the one who wrote the reply then posts, it does not go through but instead brings one to a page asking if that person would like to submit the reply or edit it. Sometimes I had failed to realize this and proceeded to move on, not realizing that my reply was not posted.

At this juncture, I do not have the authority to rule on whether your picks are valid or not. You must appeal to the League Judge. LadyPutt is the League Judge and your case needs to be brought to her. I do believe that you sincerely submitted your picks before the deadline and wish you the best of luck in your proceedings. If nothing else, you will be the first person ever in the fantasy league to appear before Judge LadyPutt in her court and your case will be recorded for the history books.

I would assume that all legal means are at your disposal including the right to counsel if so you choose. This should be interesting to say the least. I will honor your picks as valid but they will be provisional until there is a final ruling.

What a lucky boy you are Meisce...whippings and spankings to look forward to!

Sorry Meisce and everyone else - I've been out of the office all morning in a boring meeting so I've only just seen this.

Under the circumstances, and in view of the fact this is the first event of the year, I will allow the picks to stand as I have also been a victim of the "where the heck has my posting gone?" syndrome as highlighted by Venice.

However, should this occur again, I may have to take the appropriate corrective action (whip and boots are at the ready ). Don't let it happen again ...

Was interested in what you had to say about not over committing. Since we're a fledgling group and given that you picked up in midstream, seamlessly managed and kept Goldwolf's bbc606 fantasy league going until the final days of the site, any words of wisdom or criticism is welcome. And one can only appreciate the way you batted your eyelashes at Judge LadyPutt during your recent court case while she threatened you with 'whip and boots'. There's something to be learned there.

Judging on the way my pre-season went and this week is developing looks like the best I can hope for this year is mid table mediocrity! May have to start lookit who's really poor and placing them in my field to get the wooden spoon points!

I threw myself at the courts mercy and begged for clemency and LP kindly obliged. So I got my picks back plus the promise of a whipping from LP - RESULT!

Regarding the overcommitting comment - I think the new scoring system should make it somewhat easier but don't underestimate the amount of work, especially if the numbers taking part increaaes.

Thanks for the warning especially about the time consumption. While compiling the stats, I've just started combining that time by listening to old lp's from my collection I haven't heard for a couple of years. And some of the records need to be used as frisbees. Can't believe I actually bought these albums at the time.

venice - you can play around with a fixed width font (I've edited your post to try it out) - Courier New is fixed width so you don't get the effect of some characters being narrower than others

You can also insert a table using the menu buttons (a couple to the right of the quote button) but that can be pretty time consuming (although once you've done it once you should be able to edit your post, copy the code and just edit the changes in)

Thanks Davie. That helped out quite a bit. I can easily manage with these tools and will play around with the table insert buttons for consideration.

Oh shame, now I'm only on the list once. Wonder what happened to the 10 points mini me had?
