The 2nd event of the season finds us in the desert at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship from
26 - 29 January. This this the first official league event with a cut line and the stakes are raised even more by having a Weight value of 2. Below are the point values for making the cut. This tournament offers 10 points for each pick making the cut and 40 bonus points if all six picks make the cut.

RULES

Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:

Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.

Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.

Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.

Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.

Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply.
Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.

Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.

Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.

All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

That's what makes it interesting! Generally everybody picks more or less the same players, but here there is enough choice in the field to score zero... or be a hero.

Going back a few years on 606, there was a rule to limit to the amount of times you could pick Tiger, otherwise he was the default first pick for everyone. Good (for golf and for this league) that we don't need this rule any more.

A lousy attempt at a joke but you and LadyPutt both chose Branden Grace in your B Category. The judge reference is because she is the League Judge. But since you submitted your picks ahead of hers, she may have peeked at your picks instead.

Good catch, boyhyde. For some dumb reason I had Colsaerts as a missed cut on your sheet. I'll make the correction now.

The reverse psychological advantages never ever seem to materialize. The half way lead is fool's gold in this league. Being a Weighted 2 event illustrates a major shift for this fantasy league in awarding more points to the top 4 tourney finishers. Most of points will be determined in round 4. Another change was making it advantageous in choosing 6 players who will all make the cut. The strategy is similar to keeping it in the fairway. Not a guaranteed success but a good start.

Kaymer over McIlroy = Who thought the Blitzkrieg was a good desert strategy against the Irish? Everybody

Cat B:
Grace over Gallagher = Who thought the hottest player on the planet could beat a Scot at golf? Everybody

Cat C:
Stenson over Olesen = Who thought the Swedes were better than the Danes? Everybody

Well, it seems you made the correct logical choices...

Yeah Kaymer was always getting the nod, but Stenson was a close call because he is recovering from knee surgery and was talking about missing this and I had feeling it would be a step to far for Grace after the run he has been on... but went with the momentum option. Logical calls but frustrating all the same. Roll on next week!
