Graeme McDowell successfully defended the French Open title which was a first for him. In the Fantasy League it was definitely a case of the haves and have nots; those with McDowell ran away from those who didn't. SetupDetermines recorded another victory off of the back of for picks; Stephen Gallacher made all the difference. BlueCoverman came a close second as he had three picks score points. RedRage and Davie shared third after three of their picks scored points. Mary_S had just one pick but it was a good one. LadyPutt had four picks score points but it wasn't enough to move off of the bottom of the table. 1GrumpyGolfer had three picks score points.
Graeme McDowell shot 67 to take victory and it was one of the two low rounds of the day. Fabrizio Zanotti also shot 67. Alexandre Kaleka had a bad with an 81 and that sent him to the bottom of the leaderboard.

Scoring was a lot tougher in France than it was last week in Germany. Only 30 players bettered par and just another 12 managed par. Two thirds of the picks are over par after round one. Kevin Stadler had the round of the day with a 64 and the Top 5 Low Round scores mark was 67 or lower. Three picks scored points and 1GrumpyGolfer, BlueCoverman, RedRage, and SetupDetermines share the lead courtesy of one of their picks shooting 67 or better. Not one player from the top 10 of the OWGR will grace the Alstom Open de France and the top ranked player is Martin Kaymer fresh off of his missed cut at the BMW International. Graeme McDowell is the only other player from the top 20 and he will be trying to defend a title for the first time in his career. With the Open Championship fast approaching certain players will be looking to play their way back into form and cement a Ryder Cup place too.
We are back to our regular three Categories but you still need to pick three, plus reserve, from each one. The additional cut bonus points are still on offer this time around. If you get all of your picks through in any category you get a small bonus. Get all 9 picks through and you get an even bigger bonus. It's all way down at the bottom in the scoring section if you are interested.
This is a full field with cut event, so cut points will be available; see above.

RULES
Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 9 players as follows:
Pick 3 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.
Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply. Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.
Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.
Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.
All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

I was going to go all French this week but there's only one Frenchman in the top category so my slightly amended plan is as follows:
Cat A: Martin Kaymer, Victor Dubuisson & Thomas Bjorn (res Jamie Donaldson)
Cat B: Romain Wattel, Gregory Havret & Gregory Bourdy (res Julien Quesne)
Cat C: Gary Stal, Victor Riu & Thomas Levet (res Julien Guerrier)
Cat A: Martin Kaymer, Victor Dubuisson & Thomas Bjorn (res Jamie Donaldson)

I'd like to think I acquiesced to Blue's request to give you all a chance but no! Some of my picks have played shockingly, I'm looking at you Tommy Bjorn!

Setup has Gallacher and Red has Donaldson. So you're not the only one to be close to the lead

John Hahn and Petr Gal had the worst rounds of the day with 82s.

Thomas Aiken has withdrawn after a first round 79 so Davie is the first to lose a pick.
The cut line is +2 at the moment but the morning wave are only just starting to finish their rounds so I expect to see some fluidity in that number.

Well done SetUp!
I'm away for a few days, so may not get online before the next event goes up. If so, please could I have numbers: 7, 11 and 18 from each section (If there aren't 18 players in Cat A - I'll have 7, 11 and whoever is at the end of the list!)
I'll have number 4 for my reserves please.
Thank you.

Okay Mary. Cat A typically has 14-15 players so this is what I'll put in for you.
Cat A will be: 7, 11, last. Reserve 4
Cats B & C will be: 7, 11, 18. Reserve 4
Have a great trip

No need to put her in last Grumps, she can normally manage that on her own!
