Non-Qualifying Medals
Can anyone tell me if you can get your handicap cut in a "non-counting" medal ?

In a non-qualifier you can go down but not up.

Re: Non-Qualifying Medals
Just checking SGU Rules:
The declaration that a competition is a Non Qualifying Competition disqualifies all scores returned
in that competition from being used directly for handicap purposes. Thus a player returning a score
below his handicap will not have his Exact Handicap reduced nor will a score above the Buffer Zone
increase his Exact Handicap. Performance in Non-Qualifying Competitions is only one of a number
of factors to be considered in the Annual Review of Members’ handicaps.

Re: Non-Qualifying Medals
Had a lot of people on Saturday saying the same as LJ.
I always thought that if its a non-qualifier, no handicap change either way.
Looks like I may have got it right for once.

Re: Non-Qualifying Medals
I'd say the answer is somewhere in between. Certainly no handicap increases but if someone comes in with 43-45 points the h/c secretary should certainly be looking at it - but no *automatic* cut
Re: Non-Qualifying Medals
We had a reduction-only Stableford on Saturday.
I don't know if they have different rules in Chilly Jockoland.

Re: Non-Qualifying Medals
Our season starts in March with 2 'warm up' non counting events - a bogey comp and a Stableford - before the real stuff kicks in at the beginning of April. I think its just an excuse not to have the course ready for the beginning of march like every other club tries to. Slackers...

Re: Non-Qualifying Medals
If a comp is non-qualifying, no handicap adjustments can be automatically applied up or down. If a comp would be qualifying but due to numbers and or scores the css moves to more than 3 shots over sss then it can become a reduction only competition.

Re: Non-Qualifying Medals
This is from CONGU rules on the SGU website, so impacts all of us in the UK.

Also for CONGU
Q. The Handicap Committee in our club has taken the decision to make competitions Non Qualifying for the duration of the‘Preferred Lie’ period.Resulting from this decision a numberof competitors who
played below the course SSS in such competitions are seeking a reduction in their Exact Handicap. Is this permitted?
A. It is a fundamental tenet of the UHS that handicap adjustments can only be applied in Qualifying Competitions when handicaps are adjusted, upwards and downwards as appropriate,in relation to the CSS.To create a situation where handicaps can only be reduced, would distort the balance on which the system is based. To reduce the handicaps of those players scoring below the SSS in
Non-Qualifying Competitions is considered to be an unacceptable abuse of the system. To permit the UHS to operate as intended, all competitions should be run, whenever possible,as Qualifying Competitions.

Re: Non-Qualifying Medals
I wonder if this is all tied in with THIS question I posted a while back (which at the time none of us could seem to reconcile)
The summary of that thread is that we were told that NQ comps shouldn't be medal rounds. None of us could think why at the time but perhaps they are tying together
