Christmas time, Mistletoe and Wine .......... who's getting into the Christmas spirit?
Listening to some Christmas tunes on MTV, and, for the first time this year, I'm feeling slightly enthusiastic about Christmas.
I think some of the "magic" disappears a bit if there aren't small children on the scene, although I have carried on my parents' tradition of doing a Christmas stocking whilst the offspring is still living at home.
My best gift this year is that my Mum (89 next week) is still around, and will hopefully be joining us for Christmas Day.
Is anybody else humming Christmas tunes and filled with goodwill yet?

Can't say I'm really into it myself Mary - as you say it's more a time for smaller children and as my daughter is now 21 and living away from "home" it's not like it used to be. She will be back in town over Christmas and though she'll be staying with her mother while here, I know she'll come and visit and I will see her on Christmas day. Apart from that I'm looking forward to it being all over!
Doesn't mean I wont enjoy the Christmas festivities in other ways though

I'm more of a Scrooge type person at Xmas, simply because it's the busiest time of year for me, so flat out for the whole of December. I also get sick and tired of receiving silly golf presents like a cup with a ball inside, noisy socks, selection of tees, miniature malt whiskey with divot repairer and ball .... Also my daughter passed away last Xmas day/boxing day, so not looking forward to it much. Mind you at least my family have rallied around and rented a huge property away from it all, so they can keep an eye on me. That should be good fun with around 15 of us keeping merry.
Have a good one everybody

Feeling a bit fragile today as went out for my first work Christmas meal at lunchtime yesterday! One too many vintage congnacs
I like the lead-up to Christmas but find the actual event a bit of a let-down. LordPutt has been out buying goodies (edible ones) so the fridge and freezer are well stocked -so is the drinks cabinet and the wine racks.
I've been humming The Fairtale of New York (by the Pogues and Kirsty McColl - my favourite Christmas song!) for days
Other than that, I'm a bit like Davie in that I'll be glad when it's over. Like not going into work for just over a week though .....Might even get to play some golf if the friggin' weather behaves itself.

Re: Christmas time, Mistletoe and Wine .......... who's getting into the Christmas spirit?
I must admit I'm finding it hard to get into the spirit this year. We have bought a tree, a real one, that's been put in the corner of the family room and we've decorated that but elsewhere we have been very half hearted in putting up decorations. The majority are still in boxes around the dining room but my wife and I haven't been arsed to do anymore just yet. That's coming to a head today as our first visitor arrives this evening.
Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner. Sorry don't know where that came from all of a sudden. Maybe it's because I'm having to work between Christmas and New Year for the first time in a long time. I normally have an extended break as family and friends come over to stay with us and this year it won't be the same as I have to get up on Boxing Day and go to work. Luckily I'm only working the three days as I have both Christmas Eve and New Years Eve off.
I'm normally really into the cooking, baking and entertaining so I'm hoping that as I'm just starting a long weekend and as our friend arrives tonight I will start to get into the swing of it.
