County competitions and wearing shorts
Another lovely hot, sunny day is forecast tomorrow and I am playing 36 holes in the Thornton Cup at Colchester. As it is a county competition the Essex Golf Union rules stipulate that shorts cannot be worn.
Now there is no question that even tailored shorts do not look as smart as long trousers, but does it really matter? We are going to be on the course for about 8 hours tomorrow in the heat feeling hot and uncomfortable just to uphold an outdated rule for the sake of it. Agree or disagree?

Good luck tomorrow Blue. I actually prefer to wear strides over shorts because as you say they look smarter. But I feel you should be able to wear shorts if that would make you feel more comfortable. When I do wear shorts I'm almost at both ends of the spectrum; some are really smart and some are pretty casual.
