Luuuuke is PGA Player of the Year!

Glad to see that for once the Yanks have bestowed an honour on somebody from outside the USA, and Luke Donald has deservedly won the Player of the Year award.

Worthy winner

Let's be realistic here, there really was only one candidate. The only thing that was going to stop him winning was jingoism and thankfully, that didn't happen despite Dim's best efforts.

Was only one realistic winner was just a matter of the Yank players not doing the old we will vote for anyone as long as there american as was alluded to by Garrigus et al

Actually since '99 only 2 americans have won the award while 3 international players have won it!!

Never really understod why this became questionable in the first place, was always likely Donald would win it, quite rightly so.
He grew up as a PGA tour player really. I have no idea if its correct but after having gone to college in the States and been a PGA member his whole career the yanks probably see him as on of their own. (in the sense of belonging to their tour). He's such a nice guy its hard to believe he is anything but very popular with players of all nationalities.

I think that maybe it was hyped up a bit that Luke may not get it, due to Fowler gettng the ROTY award ahead of Rory in the past.

Stats can be misleading though Mary in those 13 Years Americans won it 10 times , the rest of the world only 3... Tiger winning it 9 times in that period obviosly can be reported any way you want it 9 American Victories or just one American winning...

I think the ROTY last year was totally influenced by Rory saying he was qutting the tour. The Weekend Rory had at Quail Hollow alone outshone anything that Fowler had done on tour last year..

Ofcourse it would have been a nice build up into ryder cup year if they had awarded it to Webb Simpson
