Another field (compare with the Maybank) with fairly slim pickings of top players this week after The Masters

Luke is there hoping for a good result to consolidate his #1 ranking. Kuch also teeing it up but that's about it for teh really high ranked players, though the increased strength in depth of the PGA tour will probably mean there are still decent OGWR points to be earned

Luke is bookies' favourite but at 6/1 that's too short for me! Someone like Sneds or Dufner may give a little value though

Love the course at Hilton Head though - should make for some good viewing this weekend

Hilton Head Island - Harbour Town links is the one course I really want to play in world golf and my favourite stop off on the PGA tour.
Don't know if I agree about slim pickings on top players though Davie with a list of
Cink
Haas
Howell
Kuchar
Simpson
Snedeker
Weekley
Furyk
Van Pelt
Badds
Ernie.

Those names make for a pretty good field, plus Brian Davis has an exceptional record here. I'm looking forward to this one more than the Masters as I love the course

Love the course too Mav (from TV only sadly) but I'd disagree with half of those names you put up there.

The likes of Cink, Chucky Three-Sticks, Weekley etc don't do a lot for me in terms of a quality field

I'd agree but, Chucky is finding form this year and both Cink is a 2 time winner here and Boo can shoot low numbers

Plus Boo won back to back here to cement a place on the Ryder Cup team.

This tournament seems to throw up lots of last hole drama. Boo chipped in for one of his wins. Davies loses a playoff for hitting into the beach and then taking a penalty for clipping a loose impediment on his backswing. Luke loses in another playoff on 18 after playing 18, 17 and back to 18.

Would love to play it too. Kwini reckons it is a really fair test and most golfers will play to their handicap unless they play off the tips. Length not the main defence but an ability to move the ball needed and also to plot your way around HH being key attributes. The greens are challenging targets as they are pretty small.

They're off at the Harbour Town Links - Luke off in about 40 minutes as one of the early wave

Looking forward to the coverage tonight!

Luke seems to be struggling in the early stages ... +2 after 6

Leaders (Chalmers and Flores) -3 after 10

Looks like the back 9 is playing like a tough biatch. Only 8 players under par at the moment and they all started off the first. They could come back to the field as they complete the back 9 and conversely the over-pars who started on 10 could snatch a few back. Starting to look like level par is a good round!

Wonder what morning conditions were like and if the afternoon wave will have any more success

I just turned on Sky in advance of the PGA coverage, expecting to see the end of the highlights of the Maybank (Sky Planner says Euro Tour Golf) and it seems to be some coverage of an old Ryder Cup - what's that about?

And what the hell happened to Luke? +4 on the day currently T112? That doesn't sound like the Luke we all know and love

I believe he needs something like a top 8 finish this week to retain #1 spot. Not looking likely at the moment!

I hate to see someone (anyone!) get to #1 spot on a week they don't play

Big Fat Chad at the top, that's not happened for a while!

What is Pugh on about, Will Claxton, from Claxton who is sponsored by Claxton cookies, whose father is mayeor of Claxton and mother was miss claxton!!! Did anyone else understand that 'cos frankly I'm a dear with no eyes and I've no idea". I like Pugh but that was a odd little Peter Allis type ditty!

Piss poor from Luuuuke........ Needs to find some game as a) I can't stand Coco and b) like Davie I hate seeing players gain ranking positions from not playing.

Could be a good breakthrough week for some Rookies here, likes of Gary Christian or more likely imo Harris English (can we claim him on name alone). Even Rickie could do well here as he's a good putter generally, and I'm somehow warming to him.

Still I'm drooling over the course HHI my fave stop of the year gove me the scenary of this place over the Masters anyday of the week. First thing once we move in July is a family break to HHI. Especially after Kwini told me all about it on the old place last year

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!!!!!!

Brian Gays got one seriously tough dude of a caddy! Gator is nestled by his ball giving it "all that"! Caddy picks up rake and takes on Gator, gator retreats to Wtaer 1-0 to the caddy!

HHI is great Mav. Tiny little place with many, many golf courses plus a bundle of golf shops. These will be huge, kind of like being a kid in a sweet shop. Played two courses while I was there for a few days a couple of years ago. You have to be careful of the water hazards around there as gators hang around. I saw all these houses with pools covered over with netting and found out why when I saw the house without a net. It had a 4 foot gator lazing in its pool.

In July it is likely to be hot and the weather will be unsettled. Hurricane season will have started at the beginning of June and will run until mid October. You can get lucky and miss storms or get washed out so you may want to bear that in mind when planning your trip.
