PGA Tour: The Honda Classic Empty PGA Tour: The Honda Classic

Post by Davie Thu Mar 01, 2012 10:44 pm

Starts today. Two marquee groups are Stanley, Bradley, McIlroy in the first wave of starters and Woods, Westwood, Poulter in the later starters

Although Poulter has said on Twitter last night he was going to bed early with a temperature of 101.2 so presumably some doubt over his participation

Can't yet see what time TV coverage starts here - I'd expect 7pm or 8pm tonight

Play under way - defending champ Rory Sabbatini -3 after 6!

Poulter has definitely withdrawn with Man Flu Nurse

Damn... didn't choose Coco because I thought he'd be reserving energy for next week. Maybe he's in a lower gear and is relaxing his way to a fine first round score.

Rory Mc is now -4 after 11 and Davis Love III -5 after 9. The other Rory (Sabbatini) is down to -2.

Poulter's caddy has tweeted that IJP has got pneumonia - guess he might be out for a few weeks?

A question for the people who post tournament scores on here. I'm intrigued as to why you do it? I understand the tournamment chat, just not the score updates. I'm not trying to stop you, but there are plenty of websites with updates on scoring, not least the pga tour's own website, I'm just curious.

Sorry for singling you out LP, but your post was the most recent!

LP please don't stop!

I actually quite like the scores updates as my office has a filter thing in place. I can't get always into sports websites to check the scoring but can get into here!

ray - I simply thought there were some people who didn't bother with the PGA site during the day and maybe didn't know the scores until TV coverage in the evening. I sometimes post up selected progress scores just for the benefit of people who might be browsing here but not aware otherwise (let's face it, the BBC site is probably no good for score updates anyway)

Davie - there are some people like that - me!

I don't really get your point Ray. There are plenty of websites that discuss golf news, give swing tips etc. I don't suppose we should stop doing all of that too?!

It wasn't meant as a criticism, in fact I explicitly wrote that I wasn't asking you to stop. I was just curious, that's all.

And I have an answer now... some people are firewalled from sports websites so you are providing a service.

OK - I'll start again as long as I'm in the office with access to all websites (I work on my own so sometimes I get bored and at least no-one is looking over my shoulder to see what I'm doing). I thouight there were a few people who couldn't access the PGA Tour website at work and so felt I was doing them a favour - it seems I was! Play is now underway (with a couple finishing the first round as well) but no scores are particularly interesting. Lee and Mr Woods off shortly - but so will I be as it's POETs day (push off early today). bounce

Why we have to wait until 8pm for any live golf to be shown on TV I have no idea - do the Americans not want to watch it?

Thanks Hogie - I couldn't remember exactly just know it's a chance to jumpship early.

Schwartzel also -3 after 6 - Woods and Westwood both -1 after 7.

Can't figure Justin Rose out. Just when we think he's slipping... he's suddenly playing like he has a good shot at the winning any tournament he's entered. I think he's playing games with us for some unknown reason.

Will be interesting to see if Rory holds his nerve tonight.

I don't think he comes across as well as he used to, seems to be an underlying sense of arrogance in his interviews now. Maybe his new management company advised him to change his style?

Reminder that live coverage starts at 3.30 p.m. in the UK this afternoon! Smile

Davie - Sky Sports Golf have been tweeting the programme info this morning, - example tweet below

Please RT Honda Classic now live at 3.30pm SS3HD this afternoon. Mcilroy needs to win to become the new no. 1 #skysportsgolf

Hope it's correct as I've re-scheduled my day around this!
