2012 schedule
It's that time of year again, time to start browsing websites to find decent opens to enter. I've got a few lined up already and looking forward to meeting up with a few of you guys at some of them.
Feb Royal Porthcawl 4 man team open along with JAS
March Cornwall tour with JAS (he's buying the beers as it's his birthday, don't think I've told him that yet )
Easter Monday Saunton 36 hole open
June Bournemouth 36 hole scratch with LJ (lots of events all week, hope to see some of you guys play one or more of them?)
August Eden Tiurnament at St Andrews
August Saunton 36 hole open
Sept St Enodoc 36 hole open
Quite a few others to look at as well, it's going to be a busy year!
Anyone anywhere in the southern half of the country, give me a shout if you hear of any good events, I'm always up for a good open event!

O.K.
When do you guys find time for work as we can assume that the above schedules are not including your local club comps which means the lists are extensive for both of you?

Considering my job demands of late I've not even seen a golf course in 2012 yet! Could be another car crash coming at the bournemouth... Could I better a 14 I wonder?

I'm hoping that NST will be putting in an appearance at Bournemouth week this year, obviously dependent on employment and location.

The missus might even stay at home this time as little letticia will be around then. So I might even be convinced to enjoy a local nightspot or two...

Re: 2012 schedule
Sounds like some good schedules on there guys I had mine planned out for the year but have written that off now due to the move. This was what I had lined up and if I can I might still try squeeze a couple in:
March:
Was just going to play a couple local Club opens to get my game in check
April:
Hampshire Hog @ North Hants
May:
Lytham Trophy @ Royal Lytham & St Annes 72 Hole Stroke play
South East England Links Trophy @ RCP & RSG 72 Holes
English mens Open Amateur Strokeplay - Brabazon Trophy Qualifier - @ Rochester and Cobham
Lagonda Trophy @ Gog Magog 72 holes
June:
Free month no comps except club championship
July:
Black Sea Rama Bulgarian Amateur Open 36holes (comp whilst on holiday)
That was the only ones I'd pencilled in as definites.
Of all those the only ones now I'll likely play are the couple of local ones for shits and giggles with a couple mates and the Black Sea Rama event because I've paid up for it as part of the holiday package then once we get back straight off to USA. But I'd highly recommend all of the above to all serious competitors.

Hey LJ,
Since you work in the oil industry, why don't you make a proposal to have your employer sponsor a series of events like Shell's Wonderful World of Golf and you'll be the the company agent who scouts the courses to be considered.

Agree Mav
The Ampshire Og and the Lagonda Trophy good events.
I used to know Chris Smith [Lagonda] who built a couple of golf courses in Surrey the 1980's. Good guy and decent golfer.

LJ according to certain members of this forum, you're bit of a slapper 2 beers and a curry, and then it gets messy with plenty of man bits on show, and ladies running and screaming

Wow. Three 72 hole tournaments in a month, plus Brabazon qualifier (18 or 36?), plus any club comps / knockouts, maybe some practice time too. How do you fit in job, kids, not to mention the wife?

I own my own business and work a limited number of days a year and 95% of my clients are US based so a lot is done in the evenings. So the days I'm not practising i'm at home helping with the wee mavs.
The brabazon qulaifier is just 15 minutes away from my home and is only and 18holer so a nice day out that one

Re: 2012 schedule
Not too much booked for this year yet. Only one written in stone is:-
May Trip to Scotland - playing Turnberry Kintyre and St Andrews Dukes also possibly joining up with super_realist to play the Castle if lucky, or maybe the New course. Depending on the route we take, might join up with Doc on the way up and will probably play Slaley Hall or Oulton Hall on the way back down!
As said before, this year I also want to play Woodhall Spa Hotchkin, Gog Magog and Royal Norfolk or possibly Hunstanton.
Hope to avenge the losses inflicted on us (with Smithers) by LJ and 'The Ringer'
Also need to play more comps. at my own course.
And if there is going to be another Southern 1 day mini meet sometime, I could well be up for that provided it's not in Cornwall!!
4-5 rounds a week Matelot!! I'm lucky to get that in a month.

Re: 2012 schedule
I've got a weekend booked at Woodhall Spa in May, playing both the Hotchkin and Bracken courses.
Going back to Belek, Turkey for a week also in May. Two rounds each on the Carya and at Kaya Eagles, one round on the National, one at the Montgomery and one more to be booked, probably on the Faldo.
Before that three days at Thorpeness in March from the Sunday that the clocks go forward. Always a pleasant start to the season.
Hope to get a weekend in Cornwall at some stage to play St Enodoc and Trevose. Been looking at the websites recently after reading favourable posts on this forum and they look fantastic courses.

Have a look at the St Enodoc website, the Goodman trophy may be of interest to you. Great event, it's the 1st Sunday in Sept.
I'll be there

BCM,
Have you played the Gloria Old and New in Belek? Two very nice tracks to go along with your choices you've made so far. I can also vouch for the quality of the tracks down here in Cornwall for both St Enodoc and Trevose.

Re: 2012 schedule
BCM. Dump the montgomery. It's the worst of the collection out there I think.
Instead get onto the Gloria Old. It's a much better course. The New is also very good but not in the same class as the old in my opinion.
I'd also avoid 2 rounds on the Carya... it's good but not that good. Try the Sultan instead of one of those.

Played the Gloria Old last year, not played the New yet. Haven't found a poor course yet in Belek to be honest. Cheers for info, definitely plan to get down to Cornwall for some golf this year.

There has been a fair amount of work done on the Montgomery LJ, played it last year and it was much improved. Agree there are better though.

The Sultan and the Pasha are part of Antalya Golf club. The Sultan is right up there as one of the very best in Belek and one of the best in terms of maintenance and surroundings.

I preferred the Montgomerie to the Roman Roads when there a couple of years back.
The views of Newport from the Roman Roads are, ermmmm, stunning.
