After the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championhip we wave goodbye to a long term GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguer. BlueCoverman is off to pastures new where painstaking research of obscure players and agonising over picks will not be usurped by Countdown style one from the top and any other numbers you can think of. LadyPutt should go on holiday more often! Two top 10 finishes see her record back to back wins in the GolfChatUK Fantasy League. RedRage also managed two top 10 finshers but was pipped on the line after Rafa Cabrera Bello faltered in the third round. 1GrumpyGolfer and SetupDetermines both had two points finishers and they solidified midtable. BlueCoverman and Mary_S each had one pick score points but BlueCoverman had the no brain McIlroy finish second; oh how he must rue the penalty now. Davie was present but did not trouble the scorers and I have heard that he has been onto Expedia for a last minute trip so he can pick by numbers next week.
Dawie van der Walt had the unwanted worse round, last place combo after a 79. Johan Carlsson shot 65 and shot himself up the leaderboard into a top 10 finish. No picked any of these so very few bonus points were awarded in this event.

An after the fact penalty dropped Rory McIlroy out of the Top 10 Low Round scores and hampered the chances of some GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers. He failed to take full relief from a spectator walkway by having his foot on the line as he played the shot and that cost him two shots. Only four picks made the Top 10 Low Round scores and one did so in emphatic fashion. Phil Mickelson matched Danny Willett's 63 and gave the picking by numbers LadyPutt a nice little boost. LadyPutt also had one of her other picks in the low scores and she is bringing the heat to RedRage at the top of the leaderboard. RedRage hangs onto his lead courtesy of Martin Kaymer who had yet another round under par in Abu Dhabi. 1GrumpyGolfer also had two picks score points and he's the only one that seems to be trying to keep up at the moment. The worse round was a 77 from Magnus A Carlsson.
Six picks are now in the points positions and LadyPutt looks to be in the box seat at the moment but there's still one round to go.

Henrik Stenson turned out to be such a heartbreaker as he missed the cut for the first time since October 2012, Robert Rock was also on the rocks as he too missed the cut. These two picks caused the most angst for GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers as everyone bar Davie and RedRage lost two picks for the weekend. RedRage lost one pick but still managed to extend his lead by 5 points. Davie lost four and sunk to the bottom of the leaderboard.
In a day of good scoring Danny Willett was the pick of the bunch with a fine round of 63; this has left him one shot off the lead. In a late round slump Ahmed Al Musharrekh finished with an 80 that matched Carlos Del Moral. No one picked any of these so no bonus points were awarded for round 2.
Only four picks are within the scoring places at the moment but round 3 offers bonus points galore; will anyone be able to put some pressure on RedRage?

The GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers are back in Europe, or relatively near Europe, for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship and a fine start was made by all. Everyone is within the top 2 places on the leaderboard but there is one Fantasy Leaguer that's a step ahead of the rest. RedRage leads by virtue of Rafa Cabrera Bello who was one of three players to shoot 67 and a share of the lead after round 1. The others to go low were Romain Wattel and Matthew Baldwin. A score of 68 would have got you into the Top 5 Low Round scores but the closest any other pick got to that was 69. In unsurprising fashion Ahmed Al Musharrekh scored 82 for a share of last place with Thomas Levet.
With a number of picks already above par and above the cut line so fine play is needed from some to stay around for the weekend.

The first European Tour Fantasy League event of 2014 sees the start of the Desert Swing in the Middle East. It's an event which usually manages to attract some of the bigger names and two of the top 5 in the OWGR are here. Jamie Donaldson is back defending his title and a number of former champions are here.
This is a full field with cut event, so cut points will be available.

RULES
Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:
Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.
Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply. Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.
Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.
Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.
All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

No leaderboard update yet with scores but I think I had Kaymer picked with 3 minutes to spare.

With meticulous research and information like that it's no wonder you're top of the leaderboard Mr Statto
It was a difficult decision with Mr Mush...do I pick him and get an almost guaranteed 20 points for two worse rounds or do I not pick him and go for the all 6 make the cut 20 points bonus?

10 points for Mush would be a given but he might not sink so low tomorrow. I know you like to pick a chopper or two but you miss out on additional points scoring opportunities.
I only found that out when I was looking at the leaderboard today, they had the stat on the ET website. Obviously I thought I had more time than that, I didn't factor in the additional time difference to the UAE, and you would sometimes expect the European Tour to actually play in Europe...
Anyway he was only 83 under par before today

Hmm...it looks like I made the wrong decision! Mr Mush got his 20 points as expected and I didn't get 6 through the cut. Who would have predicted that Henrik would be having the weekend off after the form he has been in lately?

I reckon Coco will never reach his true potential due to having the attention span (and IQ) of a goldfish
Was the penalty assessed at the time? Or did he sign for a wrong score? Is this a case of penalties being applied after the round where they now escape DQ?

Sorry Blue! But I'll be back doing my own dismal picks very soon. We fly home on Monday and arrive in the UK about 6.30am!!! That'll be a shock to the system - as will work on Wednesday.

Before he signed his card, he was taken back to the spot of the incident. Paramour explained the infringement and then they all returned to the scoring hut to sign his card. Therefore no DQ.
Unlike nine chins who signed his card at the Masters and got only a 2 stroke penalty rather than the obvious DQ.

Don't go Blue! I promise to be back to my mediocre best very soon ... But it's been a blinding couple of weeks in more ways than one.

Well done LP - carry on playing the numbers game!
I need to re-think my strategy, it's not working well so far in 2014. Thank heavens for Davie, propping up the table!
There will be a few glasses raised tonight though, as Steve had E/W bets on Larrazabal and Mickleson.

Just keep doing what you've been doing Davie - helps me to sleep at night, knowing that I won't be bottom of the league!

Sorry for that posting coming up again - I really must get to grips with this new tablet thingy! Waiting in the hotel bar to go to the airport - not a happy bunny.

What's causing you the most unhappiness LP?...leaving sunny Barbados or the thought of having to make your own fantasy league picks this week?

Aaaahhh - I had a cunning plan Actually I didn't but as you see, had asked Grumps to do my picks for me if I wasn't back in time - and looks as though I've picked good ones again.BlueCoverman wrote:What's causing you the most unhappiness LP?...leaving sunny Barbados or the thought of having to make your own fantasy league picks this week?
Barbados was great - a bit of the first week (torrential stuff at times) and the hotel was pretty crap but I've got a great tan - nearly all over! We were next door to the Sandy Lane hotel and golf course but the prices were ridiculous so we were glad we hadn't bothered with taking the clubs. It was also bloody hot. Went on a couple of catamaran cruises, did a tour of the island, visited the cricket ground (another of my sporting passions) and spent most of the rest of the time on a sunbed or in the bar - or both!
