Conditions A help?
I played at the weekend, and as there had been no rain for 5 straight days, I expected some decent conditions. However even though there wasn't as much standing water, the conditions were very, very soft in places and no run anywhere on the course. Obviously every time there's a shower the water table will be topped up again, meaning most of us can expect to be playing in soft conditions for the next few months.
Having to play in soft conditions all the time, begs the question: will our game improve or be affected? Many of us will be getting used to taking an extra club or 2 due to lack of run, receptive greens etc, plus maybe learning to strike fewer fat shots (If we're lucky) but will we be caught out on fast tracks abroad or on sand based tracks later? Will our ball striking be better or worse?

Bought a pair of golf boots to stop my feet getting wet last week from all the puddles on my course.

I think we would all agree that it is far more difficult at this time of year to consistently strike the ball well, especially off the fairway where you can't take advantage of the winter rules. The greens are never at their best either in these conditions, often a little spongy and uneven which hampers good scoring. As for being caught out later on I think that most golfers are able to adapt to different conditions, perhaps with varying degrees of success.
A beautiful day in Essex today, blue sky, dry and no wind. Perhaps I might even get that game in at Woolston Manor tomorrow, postponed twice before Christmas because of the weather.
