An exciting final day at the Sony Open to the end the Hawaiian swing of the PGA Tour. The final round low score wasn't a 62 but it was close; 63's were shared by Russell Henley, the eventual winner, Tim Clark, the runner up, and YE Yang, Top 20 gatecrasher. Two of those three were picked by four GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers. So they reaped the reward of the low round bonus points.

We started the day with three picks in the Top 20, we ended it with six picks in total. Three were in the Top 5 and three just scraped in to the Top 20. BlueCoverman, Mary_S and RedRage all mixed a Top 5 finisher with a Top 20 finisher. SetupDetermines went one better, he had two finishers in the Top 5 and ultimately that was the difference between him and RedRage. RedRage was pipped again but he's the player to watch out for; he's had an unofficial win and three second places so far.

Almost everyone had a finisher to boost their points except Davie who was SOL. He equalled an unwanted GolfChatUK Fantasy League record of lowest points scored in an event.

No one chose, or probably heard of, Morgan Hoffmann, he had the worse round of the day, a +6, 76. John Daly improved his score on Sunday but it wasn't enough to stop him from finishing as one of two players over par and dead last. Those points fell by the wayside.

The GolfChatUK Fantasy League moves back to the European Tour for event 5; the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, event details will be posted shortly.

A nice and easy update after Round 3 of the Sony Open in Hawaii; no it wasn't cancelled or delayed! Nothing happened that affected GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers. Moving day was anything but that or maybe it happened in reverse.

The low round score was -8, again. What price on a final round 62 to make the set? Harris English the player of the third round, it was good enough to move him into the top 15. John Daly was playing but he probably didn't have plans for the weekend and ran out of steam. His +9, 79 was good enough or poor enough to take the worse round dishonours. His was one of 13 rounds over par in round 3. The Top 10 Low Scores usually yield some points but Keegan Bradley, Brian Gay and Tim Clark all came up one short with rounds of 66. Bonus points were paid to rounds of 65 or lower.

There are three picks in the Top 20 at the moment, will that change after the final round?

The first full PGA Tour tournament has been hard to the GolfChatUK Fantasy Leaguers; nearly half of their 26 picks failed to make the cut. Dustin Johnson withdrew and that affected over half of the league field. He has Ms Gretsky to console him but it's highly likely that she won't give a damn about the Fantasy Leaguers.

The main beneficiaries are RedRage and SetupDetermines, they had four picks make it through, as they now have a 5 point lead over Mary_S; she doesn't have DJ anymore. BlueCoverman and Doc also have four picks through and they've settled in mid table obscurity. LadyPutt would have risen to those heights too but for DJ. In the basement places are 1GrumpyGolfer and Davie with just 3 picks out of their 12. Time to put the feet up and watch the telly methinks.

There was some fine scoring in the second round and another -8 round was put together on the shores of Waialae Country Club, Chris Kirk the man behind that scoring. However this didn't mean a thing for us Fantasy Leaguers. At the other end of the spectrum stood Luke Guthrie, his +6, 76 was not what the doctor ordered and he missed the cut by some margin. That had no effect on the scoreboard either.

Round 3 is moving day; can RedRage or SetupDetermines separate themselves from the pack or will someone make a charge?

I hereby declare a GolfChatUK Fantasy League quarantine emergency! LPRPitis has struck half of the field over Tim Clark. Mary_S, RedRage and SetupDetermines had the sense to resist benching Clark and so enjoyed the fruits of his labour. His round of 64 was enough to crack the Round 1 Top 5 Low Scores and earn 10 points for those clever few. They share the lead after round 1 of the Sony Open.

Nobody picked Scott Langley who had the low round of the day, probably because they had never heard of him. Eric Meierdierks who had the worse round of the day would have made Davie's alternative squad, if he had the sense to go with it, but no one picked him either.

With over half the GCUK Fantasy League picks below the cut line at the moment round 2 needs low scores and lots of them.

The PGA Tour’s shortened 2013 season started with a shortened event at Kapalua hopefully as we move onto a full field, with cut event we will have a full tournament. There are no changes to scheduling for TV so we’re back to a Thursday through Sunday event.

Johnson Wagner is back in the field to defend his title along with many others island hopping after the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. Please do not adjust your sets as there are likely to be a number of names you don’t or won’t recognize; all 25 Web.com Tour graduates and the 26 Q-School graduates make their PGA Tour debut this week.

The Waialae Country Club measures out at just over 7000 yards and is a par 70. The course record is held by David Toms at 61, although it is worth noting that Davis Love III had a 60 before the course was renovated

This is a full field with cut event, so cut points will be available.

Everyone please notify others of changes in field before tournament starts and invalid or incomplete picks from participants.

RULES

Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:

Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.

Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.

Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.

Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.

Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply.
Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.

Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.

Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.

All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

The morning wave are set to commence at 7:10 local time, that's 12:10 New York and 5:10 in Chelmsford. The second wave kicks off at 11:40 and you can work out the rest.

And they're off, Chucky 3 Sticks off to a fast start with a birdie on the first to take the early lead. Mind you there are only 18 pros who have finished at least 1 hole at the moment.

I'm not sure what you're insinuating Blue! I don't know why I'm responding to your accusation, I mean I've won two out of three events so far. You should be flattered that I think you've made some good picks GolfChatUK Fantasy League 2012 – Winter/Spring Session - Event #04 3461234324

If it's justification for the picks you're looking for here goes:

Chucky 3 sticks plays very well at the Sony, bunch of top 5s and 10s
Mark Wilson also has had some great finishes including winning last year
Brian Gay good recent finishes and stats wise is a very good putter

Does that satisfy your curiousity???

You're quite right Blue. The pin was a tried and tested method but the extra "knowledge" is an unexpected by product of researching and preparing such a wonderfully administered fantasy league.

Well 5 out of 8 GCUK Fantasy Leaguers have been shafted by the withdrawal of Dustin Johnson. Poor lamb has flu like symptoms; probably nothing to do with celebrating his win on Tuesday with Ms Gretsky.

I'll be glad to get back to the ET where at least I know most of the players! Can't we do the Qatar Masters (the middle part of the Desert Swing) instead of the Farmers Insurance PGA event on Jan 24th?

Just a suggestion Wink

All suggestions are gladly taken on board but as it's a well documented fact that the administrator isn't very good, just getting that in there before Blue, it may not be implemented in time...
