The Bournemouth Open
So... we are about to enter 2012 (sort of) and already the Bournemouth Scratch is raising it's pretty little head between Mr D4S esq and myself.
I would again like to encourage others to get involved with this highly entertaining week or days dependent upon your preferences for golf.
The site is to be found at www.bournemouthopen.net
I hope to put in a better showing this year so as to prevent the evil D4S from edging in front in our currently tied 'betterscore' count.

Re: The Bournemouth Open
Sadly, as LordPutt and I no longer belong to a club and therefore don't have an official handicap, we won't be able to play in the Bournemouth Open next year (unless I can persuade Kevin to bend the rules for us) but we might be able to come down for some of the week and meet up for a bevvy or three!
D4S will be glad to know we're looking at moving back to Dorset in four or so years' time (probably Highcliffe area) and then we'll join somewhere as we'll both be old and retired with plenty of time on our hands.

Hey nice one LP, I will task you with dragging my other half out for a game, at present she is only really playing when we go on holiday

Kevin is an approachable guy... worth asking as attendance was down last year. But if that fails... I see two of you... and two of us... The opportunity that such a convienient coincidence of numerial matching presents in the bagcarrying areas is uncanny.

Sadly I'm not able to play, I'm actually working for a change that week and am going to be stuck having to take my clubs and play at Riviera! Its a hard life!

Re: The Bournemouth Open
Just bumping this one up the list, entry forms are now out and available on the website (see LJ's post up the top).
This would make a cracking event for people to meet up as there is something for everyone here. There are high/low/scratch/ladies/mixed events on right through the week. Plus accomodation is plentiful in Bournemouth and the nightlife is legendary.
It's first week in June so good weather is guaranteed

I've just noticed on the entry form that the men's scratch event this year is being played over 2 courses, morning round at Queens Park then Meyrick in the afternoon.

Think they might be doing the same for the higher handicappers as well Drive; presume they will rotate between the cat 1s/cat 2s and the 'camels' like me so they can swap courses. Hoping to attend, but lack of job and potentially somewhere to live needs to be resolved first......

He'll be fine, he has the gift of the gab and will talk himself into a job no problems
But more to the point, are you coming down for a week/weekend of south coast debauchery? Go on...you know you want to

I do want to but, if I recall correctly, that's the week there's 2 bank holidays so I've arranged to go over to spend the week with Mrs Merc (as it'll cost me less holiday).drive4show wrote:Merc

I'm just waiting for the Stableford dates to be issued by our club and the dates of The Trilby Tour (released 31 January, I think) and then I'll be offering dates for meet-ups.

Re: The Bournemouth Open
Ah you're playing in the Trilby as well? JAS and I have both entered and as we are all in the south we might end up in the same event. JAS played at the Oxfordshire last year which if it's on the list again, would be one of my preferred venues. Trevose is another possibility, although it's a long drive and overnight stay, I do love my links golf.
Think you are right about the BH's, Open week is first week in June.

I'm pretty familiar with the Downs course at Goodwood so that will be my choice if they hold the TT there again in 2012.

I've heard varying reviews about Goodwood, anything from brilliant to average. What would be your view of the course?

Re: The Bournemouth Open
I'd say closer to average than brilliant.
There are some very, very good holes - all the par threes (except maybe the 1st) are great.
The 7th is one of the best 'money-shot' holes I've ever played. It's the highest point of the course and the views of the Spinnaker in Portsmouth, the Cathedral in Chichester and Isle of Wight definitely have the 'Wow' factor.

Thanks for that, I'll pencil it in as a possible then. Played the Oxfordshire a few times and always enjoy it but I'm looking for new courses to play.

Your very welcome my way Drive. Lots of half-decent courses on a County Card

Re: The Bournemouth Open
Just fired off an email to Kevin stating my intention to play the scratch.
Also mentioned a certain lady member of past affliation to Meyrick Park who is recovering for surgery and therefore has no official handicap but a desire to compete. I have asked if this is possible with restrictions (or hopefully just compete) and will see what happens.
Hotels to be confirmed at a later date dependent upon the other half.
Incidentally... I note that the diary for Broadstone is not yet up for 2012... I find myself wondering of any invitationals occuring that weekend.

Sorry LP. The response from Kevin was very much a no. Official handicaps only.
On the plus side that does free you up for caddying duties.

I suspected as much but thanks for asking anyway. As we'll only just have returned to work after a 10-day holiday, I doubt we'll be able to make it anyway - so you'll have to carry your own bag!

I've checked the club diary, the invitation is a week after Bournemouth open this year so won't work out.
However, the mens 36 hole scratch is the Sunday after the Bournemouth scratch if you are interested in that??

Also spoken to Kevin and you have the pleasure of my company for 36 holes I'm afraid.
My entry is already in his email inbox.

Re: The Bournemouth Open
got the times for the 36 hole scratch down in D4S-town. Good times for me and the MacTapper... although very limited entry list. Disappointing for such a great event.
And they still have my old club listed... although I think that's the clubs problem as they keep trying to submit cards for me in comps. Gonna get in serious trouble with that soon as I'm reporting them to the Essex and English Unions for falsifying results.

Yeah c'mon folks, great week down on the sunny South coast, the 'drought' has almost dried out now and I'm sure the courses will be in great shape for Open week. Lots of events to choose from so have a look at the website and pick a suitable event(s) and get your scrawny arses down here for a fun week!
ps....I'm taking one for the team by playing with LJ so the rest of you will be just fine

Thats me!
Although as I said... not played much this year. 4 or 5 times in total? Maybe!
I truly expect a number better suited to a 24 hour clock. Including the seconds!
As for being off 9 in that event as long as the blokes not called Dewey I'm fine with it.

Waste of time and effort on the golfing front. But thats more or less expected considering I've not played more than 4 or 5 times this year and none of that has been competitive golf.
Ho hum.
