Talk To Your Ball? Empty Talk To Your Ball?

Post by Doc Fri Feb 24, 2012 3:18 am

Jeeeez it's quiet on here at the minute; so a quick question, do you talk to your ball?

Last night watching the matchplay, almost every player seemed to be talking to his ball after a shot. Hold, hold: Go go, sit sit, get down, awe come on wind, stay stay etc, etc, etc.

I'm not sure if I do or don't, except the odd expletive (Under my breath of course)

I don't talk to my ball as much as I give myself a good lashing with words I can't repeat here and mostly every time there's poor execution on my part which happens often. But one of the lines frequently heard on the telecasts is: "Bite! Bite!..." That's beyond my level of play though once in a while the ball actually spins back after hitting the green. Most of my approach shots are bounce, bounce, roll when they hit the green.

Always makes me smile when some poor soul after thinning one, shouts in hope and desperation, "Bite! Bite!" as the ball hurtles through the green!

Always have talked to my ball. Same thing in snooker, tennis, in fact anything with a ball - easy tiger Wink - I am a bit choosy when it comes to y chromosome holders.

I've always talked to my balls Innocent

No idea why though, they don't have ears. And if they did, they wouldn't roll very well when putting.

That's interesting though - I've sometimes found with say a half wedge, when you thin it a little, it does have some "bite" on it!

I know what you are saying though - screaming for a ball to bite when you've totally bladed it is pretty futile but I've had some "half thins" that look like they will go for miles through the green and they do at least check a little

Not that I ever half thin a wedge ... no, not me, never Innocent

Thinking about it, strangely I probably talk to it more the better I'm playing.

I'm ashamed to admit that I do indeed talk to my ball. Normally end up swearing at it...stupid little thing never does as it's told...
