The most interesting man in golf become the oldest winner on the European Tour after he triumphed in a playoff over Richard Green and Thomas Pieters.  The win, at the 27th attempt, solidified BlueCoverman's dominance of the Open de Espana which was wore to wire.  Davie came second after having the most picks score finish points and they finished second and fourth.  All of the Fantasy Leaguers, bar 1GrumpyGolfer, had a finsher within the top ten.  SetupDetermines also had a pick finish fourth as he slipped behind Davie's charge.  It was as you were for Mary_S and LadyPutt as they both had a pick finish seventh.

For the second day running both BlueCoverman and SetupDetermines earned points for Rafa Cabrera Bello's bad round; his 85 was the worst by two shots.  Niclas Fasth shot 69 for the round of the day.  Ivo Giner and Gaganjeet Bhullar jointly finished in last place after they matched all four rounds and ulitmately finishing with 83s.

Five picks scored points in round 3 and mostly they were for good reasons. BlueCoverman almost topped and tailed the field as he had one pick shoot in the Top 10 Low Round scores and another finish with the joint worst round.  Carlos Del Moral finished his third round with a 79 joining first round leader Eddie Pepperall; Jorge Campillo also had a 79.

SetupDetermines tried to keep up the pace by earning points through Del Moral too.  Davie, LadyPutt, and Mary_S earned points for the right reasons.

Ross Fisher had the low round of the day with a 67 and 69 earned you points.

In round two only seven picks broke par and the cut line moved to +4 and despite that the Fantasy Leaguers still said goodbye to almost half of the picks.  BlueCoverman and Davie didn't have to shake as many hands as the rest; they both had seven picks through to the weekend with Davie earning two cut bonuses to BlueCoverman's one.  SetupDetermines hangs onto second place by virtue of a cut bonus bolstering his five remaining picks.  LadyPutt and 1GrumpyGolfer are each left with four picks and LadyPutt's lucky numbers saw her earn the last cut bonus.  Mary_S has to make do with three picks at the weekend.

Darren Fichardt shot 66 which is the round of the tournament so far.  Kenneth Ferrie struggled to an 85 and the worse round.

Six picks are in the top 10 places and another two are just one shot away from the top 10.  With more bonus points available on moving day it might not be all over yet.

After tragic events at the first European Tour stop in Europe the tour moves from Madeira into Spain for the Open de Espana.  Sergio Garcia is headlining the field as the only player within the top 30.  Miguel Angel Jimenez and Gonzalo FDez-Castano are other Spainish players within the top 50 that are also playing this event.  Raphael Jacquelin is the returning champion and he will be looking to be the first to defend the title.

We are back to our regular three Categories but you still need to pick three, plus reserve, from each one.  The additional cut bonus points are still on offer this time around.  If you get all of your picks through in any category you get a small bonus.  Get all 9 picks through and you get an even bigger bonus.  It's all way down at the bottom in the scoring section if you are interested.

This is a full field with cut event, so cut points will be available; see above.

Everyone please notify others of changes in field before tournament starts and invalid or incomplete picks from participants.

RULES

Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 9 players as follows:

Pick 3 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.

Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).

If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.

Order of Merit: The person with the most total points at the completion of the season will be declared the GolfChatUK Fantasy League Champion. If there is a tie for total points at the completion of the season, those involved will be declared Co-Champions.

Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be treated as nil scoring. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.

Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply.  Example: Pick 2 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4 and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1 and 7, reserve 3 from Category B, players 1 and 2, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.

Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.

Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.

All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

I loved Miguel's interview at the end. Asked for his recipe for success, he put it down to "good wine, good food, good cigars ... and good sex"! I asked LordPutt why he doesn't play golf any better ...  Innocent

He must be smoking the wrong cigars LP!

What a top man MAJ is. I must admit that when he broke his leg skiing 18 months ago I felt that his winning days were over but how wrong was I.

Picking by numbers for Wentworth this week for me please Grumps, here's hoping to have just a little of the success that LadyPutt normally achieves when using this method. Numbers 1, 3 and 5 in each category please with number 7 as reserve, thanks.

A 6.00am flight from Stansted to Malaga in the morning for me and 11 other members of my golf club for a weeks golf on the Costa del Sol. 3 rounds at San Roque, 2 at Mijas and 1 at Torrequebrada are on the agenda. Really looking forward to it.

Cheers all, have a good week  GolfChatUK Fantasy League 2013–2014 - Spring/Summer Session - Event #07 Open de Espana 1927768590

Well done Blue, have a good time - flying off with a win under your belt might be an omen for your golf!

Really pleased that MAJ has finally managed to get his name on this trophy.

I see that two of my reserves finished in the Top 10.  Rolling Eyes

Thanks for updates GG - especially as you would have been busy celebrating the end of the 9 year drought!  Innocent

The third round update was prepared during the halftime break and posted shortly after.  There was no way I was listening to the muppets on US TV talking about the game so far.

Torrequebrada : a nice little challenge. Don't put your chip onto 18 long, that downhill putt is vert tricky.

I always thought that the beer after the game at Torrequebrada was the best .

No problem, one of my best drives of the week, pitching wedge to below the pin and two putts for a regulation par 4!  cheers
