Jamega Tour at Hever Castle
Well after the excitement of being the youngest Englishman to make the cut at the Open, it is back to reality for Dale Whitnell this week on the Jamega Tour being played at Hever Castle in Kent. A tidy 6 under first round of 66 currently sees Dale lying in joint second place, 1 shot behind the leader.
I notice that Steve is playing this tournament as well Mary, anyone else got any interest in this event?

Nice round from Dale, Blue.
Not heard of the Jamega Tour is that a new one or rebranding of an established tour?

The Jamega Tour was established in around 2004 Grumps, and is run for aspiring tournament professionals in the Southern half of England.

Thanks Blue, does it feed into another tour?

No I don't think that it does Grumps, more of a training ground for up and coming professionals to gain experience and become competitive.

Dale shoots 68 today for a total score of -10 and wins by 3 shots. First prize is £3500, not a bad couple of days work. Just hope that there is not a casino on the route home

Nice win for Dale!
Steve was not in the prize money this week, so it's bread and water for his supper.
The Jamega Tour events are very well run, and they often have players from the EuroPro and Challenge Tour competing, depending on whether or not the dates clash. I think that the only things which the EuroPro has over Jamega is that it links to the Challenge Tour, and the Sky coverage (if you are in one of the leading groups). Jamega is cheaper to play, and events are only 2 days, so not so many expenses re. accommodation etc. Their prize money depends on the size of the field, but probably averages out at £6k for 1st place. Last year, Lee James (ex-European Tour) won the order of merit with approx £30k in total.
Next week they are at The Players Club, Bristol, and then it's onto home turf for Steve at Cumberwell Park.

Mmm. Wonder if they will play off the black tees which is 7600+ yards? We have the Stiff Salver on the 25th August off the blacks. If you are a member you get your entrance fee back if you return a card. If you break nett 80 you get £30 & if you get a birdie you win a shirt. It's the survival of the fittest! I played in it for the first time last year & won a shirt & got my £10 back, but only one or two people out of the 100+ players that entered broke nett 80.

FF - apparently they play off the black tees, apart from holes 4, 15 and 18. Steve knew about the Stiff Salver, and wishes you good luck!
