Avatars - OK or not?
The Avatars seemed popular on the temp place so I'd like to know if you all want them here or not
Small ones are OK though plenty of people advocated that this place should be kept as work-safe as possible
Should Avatars be switched off or should we allow small ones? Thoughts...

I'm all for them, gives an idea of others personalities but then I'm not restircted by work rules so happy to go with the general consensus

I'm not averse to the avatars except some of them were huge and nit exactly discrete. My vote or request us for small ones.

Avatars are a decent idea, but Elvis needs to leave the building :D

No strong feelings either way on Avatars. If we're having them I'll look out for my 3 wheel van

Think it's better with them but they need to be smallish, although not so small you have no idea what they are.

Related to avatars, what about signatures? Lots of people ask on a frequent basis what gear people are using; would be useful (maybe) to allow signatures to display that sort of info. Can they be made to restrict the number of characters etc?

Don't think signatures can be limited to a certain number of characters. We could try to tell people to limit to (say) 3 lines but it doesn't always work
Re: Avatars - OK or not?
Anything that includes an equipment list would grow more than 3 lines long as people would use returns between driver/fairways/etc

I recall on a website I frequented a while ago that there was an option given to each poster as to whether they wanted to view the avatars or not. Not sure if that tool exists for this website but would be the easiest way to deal with the problem.

I like the Avatars. It allows you to easily identify who is posting on a particular thread

I'm OK with Avatars - mind you, I can't acess the site from work anyway.

Me neither. I reckon that LadyPutts Avatar is freaking out our firewall!
Strangely though, I can access football forums which contain quite a bit of bad language.

Mary - is the darkside also banned for you? They have their own URL but it's the same hosts - if you can get them you should be able to get us
Re: Avatars - OK or not?
Davie - I can access the darkside from work. Very odd!

If my avatar is upsetting people's ability to access the site at work then I'll change it.

Re: Avatars - OK or not?
LP - I doubt the avatar itself will be stopping people accessing from work - they will either be able to get here or not regardless of avatars. The only concern might be "work-safe". Personally I have no problem with it but it might not look so great on some peoples' work monitor
Re: Avatars - OK or not?
I have to say I did want to meet LP after seeing her avatar But the new one has me running for the hills

Because her charity is actually a front for worldwide domination and there are very few female meglomaniacs to choose from in the world of film.

In my previous job I was known as WWW (wicked witch of the west) and so I thought this was quite appropriate.
Be afraid, be very afraid ........
PS If you want the old one back, I'll consider it!
